Who does it?! When we stay at Bally's, really anything beyond PHo seems to be out of distance to walk. Going north seems easier (Palazzo way). I know the Bally's monorail station is towards the back of the hotel, near the pool on the shops level... Which is fine because North Tower elevators are close by as well. So what about on the MGM end? I've read it's a maze to actually get into the casino and restaurants in MGM after you exit the monorail. (Worse than the City Center Tram station @ Bellagio?) Is this route still easier than the walk to and from?

    Any experience, great!

I have taken the monorail at MGM a couple times a few years back and yes at first it feels like it takes forever till you make it out to the station. But now that I've gotten used to the size of MGM it isnt as bad. Its a good deal for 1 person, but if its 2 or 3 people its almost the same price to just take a cab and split it.... the only good thing is you are walking in an air conditioned building instead of walking down las vegas blvd in 110 degree sun.

If you were at the enterance of MGM at the corner of Tropicana and the strip, I would guess that you would make it to the monorail station in about 1/3 to 1/2 the time it would take to get to PH from the same location. I hate walking that stretch between MGM and PH too.

I used to do the 24 HR pass when I would stay at Sahara. Now I just get the pass from RTC and take the deuce it seems to be faster and cheaper. IMI

We use the monorail from Ballys to MGM all the time. If your looking for a monorail deal just pick up one of the coupon books and there is a 3-day pass for $20, we did this in May.

The monorail is good to get you around from mgm all the way to Sahara/SLS. All of the stops are in the back of the casinos. The one at MGM is 5-7 minute walk to the casino once you come up the escalator. You can get one ride tix, 24 hr pass or 3 day pass, and you can by them right at the stations

I actually became a big monorail fan last fall when visiting. It was great to be able to leave Harrah's and get to MGM without being exhausted when I got there. Heck, at that time the construction in front of IP/Linq was so bad, I'd use the monorail to get from Harrah's to the Flamingo. MGM is a bit of a walk from the station to the front door, but as mentioned already, there's air conditioning.

Even if the overall time saved turns out to just be a few minutes, it's still worth the steps saved, and sweat retained.

I'm planning on gambling and seeing a few shows down on the south side next month, but I'm staying at Rio. So I'm planning on getting a 4 day pass (thanks MyVegas!), take the shuttle from Rio to the strip, then hop on the monorail.

I too am a fan of the monorail. I just enjoy using it for some reason. I use it mostly for the long trek between MGM and Ballys/Flamingo/Harrah's. For me, it beats walking in the heat and dodging the crowds, porn slappers, costumed characters, etc. on the sidewalk. It's also great when it is raining, which it did for two days on one of my visits.

Where are these coupon books found? I always use the Monorail to get from Flamingo (where I usually stay) to MGM and the South Strip.

    Thanks

They are in the Vegas coupon books found anywhere from taxi cabs to hotel customer service desk areas. I got mine while in the taxi to Ballys and then found the same books near the Ballys concierge desk near the north tower elevator. The coupon must be redeemed at one of the manned monorail ticket booths and not the kiosks.

That's pretty much our point. Beat the heat, save our breath...as far as time, not in a rush. On vacation after all :)

Have used the monorail since it opened. Great way to get around in the heat. The one time I had an issue was right after Jimmy Buffett concert. Got stuck on a jam packed car for about 30 minutes. They got us off and started running one car back and forth on one side of track....guess what it stopped after going about 10 feet. But with hundreds of rides that was the only snafu.

You know, my mother and I purchased tickets for the monorail and we hated it. Our feet were sore from walking through the airport, we were sightseeing and traveling from hotel to hotel, ect., and the monorail took longer to find and walk through than it could've took us just to walk there to the hotels. It was a waste of our money in my opinion. But maybe it works for people who are closer to their destination than we were. :)

    Monorail

We found the monorail more useful years ago when we would stay at the Sahara, ride Quarks at the Hilton and getting all the way down to MGM. Now that Sahara is closed along with Quarks and the Hilton is now the LVH, there isn't much left. I will still grab a one day pass if I can get a BOGO and use it to be able to park at MGM and visit the properties on that side.

If you are a novice and think you can easily get from hotel A to hotel B, you are in for a real surprise.

If you have a general idea where the station is and where you are going, it can work.
