    Hi all,

My husband and I are going to Vegas next week for 5 nights. We have never been. We are not gamblers and have only been to Foxwoods in Ct haha.

A friend told my husband to call and ask for a host. My husband calls and speaks with a host who gives us cheap pricing at CP. Seems really cheap? 5 nights Oct. Tower under $350 total. He gives us a confirmation a few weeks later. Says he can't guarantee that room and says to call when we are a week out. Call yesterday- he says yes, looks good. I call the 800 to check the conf # and they say yes Oct. Tower.

We have no past player rewards cards or anything.

Is it possible we get there and have a crap room? If so hubby can do the $20trick.

Please tell me the protocol about the Host, find him and tip? Not sure what is to be done?

A few months ago I signed up online for TR but never received a card?

Sorry for all the questions but I want to be prepared and make sure that we do the right thing.

“Is it possible we get there and have a crap room? If so hubby can do the $20trick.”

It is possible that you won’t get your Oct. Tower room. If a bunch of known gamblers happen to show up that weekend, you could get bumped. But Caesars has so many rooms in between Octavius and “Crap” that you would still probably get something nice, like Augustus Tower. I think with all the rooms they have, you’ll be fine. Read some of the TR’s on this site where people stay at CP – most of them, it seems, book lower level rooms and get upgraded (often for just asking, but some do the $20 tip) to nicer ones.

“Please tell me the protocol about the Host, find him and tip? Not sure what is to be done?”

You really don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to. Some folks tip, or give a gift (I think that cash is “technically” against most casinos’ policy but it is done). But it certainly isn’t mandatory or probably even expected unless the host is really going out of his way for you. If you want to look him up and thank him, that would be a nice gesture. But it certainly isn’t necessary. The only thing he wants from you is for you to give Caesars as much of an opportunity at your gambling dollars as possible. Depending on what kind of host he is and how much play you give them, he might try to look you up. Either way, if you give Caesars much action, look him up late in the trip (night before check out is usually when I do it) to see if you’ve given them enough play for any more comps. (Be sure to charge any of your meals at CP to your room – if you end up playing a lot it might all get taken care of.)

“A few months ago I signed up online for TR but never received a card?”

I don’t think they mail player’s cards out. You’ll just have to find a Total Rewards booth/office and give them your ID. They’ll make you a card right there. It’s pretty quick and painless if there isn’t much of a line.

    Thanks for the info!

We are staying Sun-Fri so I think that will help in the room selection.

I just went to check the room online and it says Augustus Tower. I would be happy with that and try for a nice view

PS- Do Hosts just give out discounts on the room for anyone that calls??

Hubby mentioned that his Uncle told him to call but the Host did not ask for a name.

If you're not gambling I can't see any point in ringing a host.

$70 per night through a host at Caesars in the Octavius tower and you have never been to Vegas. That's a head scratcher for me.

But good luck and have fun!!

When you say “We’re not gamblers”, do you mean…

“We won’t be gambling at all.”

    Or

“We’ll gamble a little each day. But gambling isn’t the main purpose of the trip.”

If it is the former, you may have reason for concern. The rack rate for that room is $760 for those days. I would not be surprised to find that amount on your bill at check-out if you give them ZERO play.

If it is the latter, don’t worry. As long as you play some – and use your TR when you do - you’ll be fine. If the host doesn’t think you played “enough” he just won’t offer you future discounts (and probably won’t return your husband's calls:eek:).

If you are only going to gamble a little, I would try to do as much of it as possible at Caesars Palace.

You got a very good deal. A lot of players who can get comp rooms at any other CET properties have a hard time getting Caesars octavius/augustus towers at that rate.

If you've got the confirmation at that rate I wouldn't worry. But when I'm skeptical I just call the front desk with the confirm number to see what they have me in the system for. You can do that if you're worried.

If they have you booked for $70/night they're not going to charge you rack rate.

The pricing was different each night. He gave
1st night free (sun) and one night was like 109, one night 69 etc

Online says we are booked Augustus with no pricing. When I called yesterday they said Oct.

In my experience, the CET online reservation system usually lists a minimum accommodation for your booking, leaving some discretion for the person who checks you in to make adjustments depending on how busy they are and how many high rollers are in town. They seem to view Octavius Tower as an upgrade, since it's newer, though many people who post here seem to like Augustus better because of the potential fountain view and shorter walk to the casino.

At Caesars, you should look for the "invited guests" line at the registration area, since you won't have a "tier" card to help you decide which line to use. At check-in, don't hesitate to discuss the room options with the reservation assistant and make clear that you're a first-time visitor. Since you will be arriving on a Sunday, there should be many rooms available (presuming no convention is at CP then). If it's not busy when you check in, it would not be bad form to tell the reservation staff that you would like to look at a room in Octavius or Augustus Tower (you pick) before deciding for sure about the tower. They will check you in to a room and give you the keys. If you are happy with the room, then you'll be done. If not, you can run back down and easily switch to the other tower. In my experience, the rooms themselves are very similar from tower to tower, so you're mostly going to be deciding about the view and orientation to the strip. If you don't already have a bellman, just ask them to hold your bags at the bell desk while you scope out the options.

And don't worry about getting hit with extra room charges after the fact. As other posters have said, as long as you gamble each day, you'll be charged what you were quoted. Low play should only impact your future options with CET. And if you gamble at least four hours per day, you'll start getting free room offers at CET properties, even if you just play penny slots.

I just called again to confirm and the reservation woman said our total with resort fees is $524 for 5 nights and she has down "requested" Oct Tower.

Thanks for the suggestions! I now know how to proceed at check in.

If Oct and Aug Towers are basically the same I would rather have a foutain view if possible. Knowing I can try to negociate with check in is a plus!

I wish they counted $15 martinis in your spending total................:drunk:

Is there an actual check-in area in each tower?

I think that charging back to the room is always a good idea for record-keeping purposes, but in my experience, CET just deducts the charges from whatever TR rewards credits you've built up.

True. Tho it can vary by time of arrival. OP can just ask an employee to point them to the right registration desk at the time. Will probably be the desk they used to use for Diamond players, before it was combined with 7 stars desk.
