Last trip we met with the host. Really nice guy.
Last trip we had a decent room (not the base room, but no a suite) and he commented that our next trip to remind him about getting a larger room and he will provide if possible.

Sent an e-mail, reminding him about the room. He replied as always saying limo is set up and will receive room reservation in a day or so.

Get the room reservation and check the web site. It appears to be the base room. Not an upgrade and less than what we received last trip.

    How to handle this?
    Just take the free room?
    E-mail the host to comment?
Could it be a busy week and it is all that is available?

I don't think there is a right or wrong way to handle this. The host is not obligated to do a thing for you. There are no laws that state when you are entitled to comps (can we get the legislature to change that :evillaugh )

My suggestions, treat it like a friendly negotiation. Are you willing to stay somewhere else. If so, call the host, remind him that he offered previously to try and get a better room and find out what happened. Then ask for the upgrade to the better room and politely let him know that you have better offers elsewhere. If he can't produce a better room, then stay elsewhere.

If you're staying at this hotel no matter what, then I would still call and negotiate, but leave out the implied threat of taking your business elsewhere (I don't think that's a bluff you want the host to call)

    Good luck

I'd definitely be very amiable however you handle this situation as you mention that he commented on getting a larger room. While you remember that clear as day he will have hundreds of clients and may well not remember. Technically he should have noted it down, but things get overlooked from time to time.

Do the $20 trick at check in and ask for a resort room with a view , it worked for me last time and I gave the guy at check in $10, and he gave me the resort room with a view.

Personally, I would usually prefer a lower end room. More costs can be comped later (food, shows, etc.) if the comp value of the room was lower.

this is really simple. just email him and ask him what room he put you in. when he emails back, if it's not the room you want, ask him if he can put you in the one you want. I've done this many times. sometimes they say OK, other times they say they can't, but it never hurts to ask.

    Which hotel/casino?

If CET, the reservation will often show a base room, but you really have something better on hold.

As to better rooms/suites - most casinos have a group that decides who gets them, and decisions are often last minute due to other players coming in, or big players not leaving, etc.

We like the casino, not as much as some others, but we really like the location and would still stay there anyway. I did send an e-mail and kept it passive.

The e-mail was a gentle reminder to the host. Had my wife read it before sending and she thought it was nice enough.

Wasn't sure if they could override a host's offer.

Actually a very good point. For a 4 day/3 night stay our total bill tends to remain under $250 total so having a little bigger room is nice.

Based on reading some of your posts, there is a difference between you making a request and me making a request. I am just one of the little guys, but you are right and it doesn't hurt to ask. I am sure I am not the only one to inquire and sure there are plenty of people gambling less and asking for a bunch more.

    It is PH.

    Thanks everyone for their replies.

I will let you know the results once I hear back.

It could also be a quirk on the website because I have a few nights in a suite at PH booked through a host as well and under the "My Reservations" tab of the website it shows as a hollywood king room but when I actually click on that reservation and view the details it shows our suite. I also called the front desk to confirm I was booked in the suite. So you might be having the same issue.

I agree with Kick. After I saw his post I went to check my reservation made by my host for my trip in 2 weeks. Host had made this a month ago for a Blvd suite at PH and on the TR website it shows it as being a Hip room only. Might just be a website glitch?

I called earlier this morning and she confirmed it was for the Hollywood Hip room and that it was their "standard" room.

I also just checked Total Rewards and it too reads Hollywood Hip.

Could be. In the e-mail I did inquire if it was expected to be a busy week.

You can bet we will take what ever room they provide. After all, its nice just to be in vegas.

you kinda sound like a high school guy nervous about asking the hot, popular girl to dance. never forget that hosts are working for you, not the other way around. of course treat them respectfully like hopefully you would anyone, but you don't have to walk on eggshells about anything. you're the customer, they're the help. give him another couple of days and then send another email asking if he received the last one. you should expect a response regardless of what the answer is.

$20-$40 sandwich will get you the upgrade. I wouldn't sweat it.

The only thing I ever got from a host was turn down service and a chocolate on my pillow. I get a suite almost everytime I go to Las Vegas. I book my room on line with or without a offer. I have never even asked for a suite. They just have give them to me.
