Comps on sports betting?

I want to go to Vegas for the next Mayweather fight in September, planning to bet $10k+ on the fight. Can I get comps based on my wager? Is there a limit in which I can bet using cash? Not sure where I will stay, but most likely Aria.

 

no, you won't get comps for a small bet like that. even if you regularly place hundreds of thousands of dollars in wagers, you'll still hardly get more than a free room.

there's no other way to bet except cash. the limit is whatever the book will take, but you won't have any problems with that amount.

 

You will get better comp credit at a CET casino for that kind of bet. While I would hardly characterize a ten thousand dollar wager as small, MGM really doesn't give any comps for sports betting

 

I was comp'd a corner suite at Aria during March Madness. I bet $50k on the games over 3 days and it was considered a zero play weekend for me. When I made my bets at Aria they told me they didn't even need my card as comps are not applied. I have a long history with MGM, so there was no change in my future comps. $10k is a nice size bet. But, at Aria it is not and will most likely not get you a room without prior history.

 

Agreed, using your TR card at any CET property will get your sports betting rated.

How much value for what levels, I don't know. But ANY at CET appears to be better than NONE at MLife.

 

My boyfriend bets sports every trip at CET props. I play penny slots, and get all of the comps. There you have it. They will probably give you one drink ticket though. :evillaugh

 

The only reason they take your card at MGM for large sports bets it to track your bets (and, I suspect, make sure you're not a runner). It's not to give you comps. If you're betting enough at sports to get an MGM comp, you're probably already betting enough at the tables to get the comp anyway

 

Yeah, even the CET comps for sports betting are pretty small. I think the largest sports bet I ever made at CET was $6k and I think it added about ten bucks to my reward account

 

This. $10K in horse racing bets is a different story (18-20% avg house take vs. 5% sports). This is why you see half of most sports books devoted to racing (in terms of screens, desks, wager clerks).

They've lost business over the years due to intertrack wagering and rebates, but if they overturn the prohibition on rebates in the future, they'll see an uptick in business.

 

How about the downtown casinos. Do they offer anything for 5-10k wagers on sports?

 

True. I think the OP was talking about sports bets, though. MGM gives comps for horse and dog betting, but I think its still pretty small

If I put $200-$300 on an NFL game, I think I'm betting large, at least in my mind.

 

That's the great thing about Vegas! I've gone to Vegas four times and on those trips combined my gambling budget hasn't even been 10K and I've had an absolute blast.

 

My comfort range is $100-$250. The units only go up for lines I feel are steals like Seahawks 2nd half against Falcons and Niners second half in the Superbowl.

 

it is to the book. there was an article posted on here a while back, I think around SB weekend, with interviews from various sportsbook managers and other insiders that detailed how slim the margins are on the book. that's why the comps are non-existent. it takes a lot of action for them to make just a small margin.

Yeah, for SB weekend, 10k is a small wager. But not for any other day of the year. The logic that a 10k wager is small because the book has small margins and takes in a lot of volume (especially on football) isn't really logical. That's like saying when someone like Natedog makes a six figure wager at baccarat, its a small bet because the casino takes in a lot of volume at the bac tables. It's still a large wager, I would argue, by any standard.

Now, the low margin is the primary reason why MGM doesn't give out comps for sports betting (and the risk of advantage players that they don't want to reward). I think we all agree on that

Agreed. $10k is NOT a small wager (except like you said, the SB). Otherwise many books in Vegas will refuse it.

Try getting that type of bet down on a college basketball total- not a chance.

You can bet $10k on NFL Sunday, but early in the week many shops will refuse it. Cantor Gaming sportsbooks are probably the most likely to book big action.

 

the OP is talking about a fight and one of the biggest fights in years at that. maybe it won't get as much overall action as SB, but it will get enough action that $10k on one side or the other is meaningless to them.

they don't take large wagers on these types of bets for a few reasons. the smaller overall action on each game is one reason, but also because the quality of the line is lower due to the large volume of games the line-maker has to go through and the frequency of changes in these games. therefore, it's more susceptible to sharps and insiders gouging the book for large profits on slow moving books.
