Hi, is it possible to get some advice on comps at the Wynn/Encore.

My friend is a mainly purple chip player, who over a 7 day trip had average bets of $900 per hand for approx 3 hours per day. During the stay she had 7 nights comped (Tower Suite resort suite - most basic Tower suite room), free show tickets to Le Reve, Wynn rolls royce airport transfers.

The host advised everything for food/beverage would be comped, but on checkout she still had a large bill that included spa, dinners and beach club/nightclub purchases totalling a few thousand. On all previous trips she had always had everything comped, and had always stayed in the most basic room (first experience in Tower Suites this time around).

Prior to the trip she was down approx $35k to the casino, but left the trip with a $85k profit (50up overall). Do you know why her final bill would not have been comped? The host mentioned her maxing 40% of her theo, but this seems strange. I also feel the $900 average grossly underestimated her hands, as from what I saw it was nearer $1-2k per hand average. Is this typical of the Wynn regarding the comps if winning, or a bad host, or a reasonable amount of comps? I thought in another hotel with that type of play she might fall into 'High Roller' territory, and would surely be liable for say a swanky suite? Am I right?

    Many thanks

impossible to know without more details as far as actual avg bet and total hours played or total theo and how much was actually comped.

No precise answer to your question, but two thoughts.

First, I have heard anecdotally that Wynn has been tightening up on comps. Not sure if that is true because I have never played there enough to compare the comps offered over time. But it might be an explanation.

Second, your friend needs to talk more to the table supervisors about his/her average bet. In my limited gambling at Wynn, the table bosses have always been very fair (if not over estimating my play) when entering my average bet. Obviously, if your friend can get that number higher, it will help the comps

Thanks for the replies. She didnt get anymore than it was $900 per average for 3 hours per day, and 7 days of play. The total comps received would be the value of the queen room, i'd say two dinners and the airport transfers. Not sure how much that equates to, but the host said it was 40% of her theo which she had to rigidly apply. I might be out of date with the 'high roller' term but to me someone winning or losing $20-40k in a session I would have always thought should be in a top suite and receiving pretty generous comps!!

Were these dinners for 10 with large wine bills? If not it does not sound right at all.

well it certainly sounds like they was undercomped, but again, impossible to know without actual comp totals. first of all, why wasn't she brought in at RFB? $900 avg for 3 hours a day isn't getting a top suite and tons of comps, but she should be taken care of pretty nicely.

assuming those numbers are accurate, she should have gotten about 5k in comps, which includes the cost of the room. so she should have gotten quite a bit of food/spa/etc picked up.

The only other thing I can think of is that they considered her "overcomped" on past trips but were willing to do it based on actual loss being higher than theoretical loss, and now are "clawing back" those excess comps since she is now a winner. She is a big enough player that they will be looking back at past trips to see where she stands comp wise relative to actual loss. Now there is in fact no actual loss so her comps will be based purely on theo.

Caesars did that to me, but the host explained he was doing it. Mind you, they didn't really "take anything away" that was promised but comped less on the back end than usual after the winning trip with the above as the justification. I didn't like it but it did make sense.

fwiw, i agree with the math here and have generally been comp'd at that level at wynn/encore (with similar avg bet, but probably fewer hours per day of stay--i.e. similar avg bet, lower theo per day as OP but % theo recovery similar to above which seems well above original poster).

it could be that the host didn't get around to adjusting the bill and will do it retroactively? i'm curious to hear how this is resolved.

would agree with earlier poster that my avg bets have always been fair (if not a bit generous).

Wynn almost never comps the spa. It takes an act of God (or a really good host) to take the Spa costs of the final bill.

Same goes for the clubs. part of the tightening up policy at the Wynn is to not comp club costs (tables, bottle service, etc) It can be done, but the level of play needs to be much, much higher.

The other trick the hotels are doing now to tell everyone they are "overcomped" is to bill the comped room rate at a much higher rate than what they could get for it if someone was just paying for the room off the street. So, they could say that the Tower suite rooms "comps" at $400 a night, where the going rate on the website might be $199 / $229 night, or something similar. Increasing the cost of the "comped" room against your available comps is an easy way for them to deny other comps you may have available to you.

    Agree 100%

I too feel like Wynn ratings are generally more accurate/generous then other places (as opposed to Aria which is terribly off time & time again).

Her time played seem a bit on the lower side which might have hurt her. But it does seem like her rating might be a bit low.

All the more reason to push/inquire for ratings at the table.

Based on that time of play & bet though, the comp % doesn't seem terribly off though. At least not to an offensive level.

Thanks guys for all the replies and opinions...one thing she had which I didn't know until today was on her last trip,,a losing trip of around 40k, in addition to full comps (inc spa), she was given 800 cash to cover air fare too. This maybe sounds like maybe as suggested a past overcomp (from a different host) being caught up this time around by a replacement host, with whom she had no relationship or history. Cheers everyone!

Out of interest, would she maybe get more comp for her money at another property? Would anyone suggest trying anywhere else to get more at her level, or is wynn/encore one of the better for comps?

Drgiggles, when we spoke today she said her new host (hosts changed while she was on vacation there) had emailed saying there was nothing she could do as she has comped as much theo as she could. My friend was hoping for it to be retroactively amended, but the new host doesn't seem to be budging on it.

I just came back from staying at bellagio for 4 nights. My rating was around 500 a hand for 11 hours in baccarat/blackjack between mgm and bellagio. I only received around $110 in ec's. My room was comped up front. I only had around $600 in room charges between prime steakhouse, cafe, palios and room service. They picked up everything but tips and taxes and took my ec's. first, is that low for ec's and was I able to get more? I also had a limo pickup from airport ang mgm gave me a limo back to bellagio on Saturday nite since the taxi line was long. Did those go against me? I would think I should've gotten more ec's and should've got all my charges taken care of without using what little I earned.

your play at MGM does nothing for your stay at the B. that's why they took your ECs to cover your play. they only can take primary comps from your play at their property.

the EC earning rate has been severely reduced from before. limos aren't counted against any comps.

she'll definitely get more at any other place than Wynn. Wynn is the tightest on comps.

I did 12.5 hours @ $408 avg bet last month - 100% Blackjack. I got about $140 in ECs, so your $110 in ECs does not sound too far off.

Shifter, not sure this is correct.

My host specifically told me that they split credit with the other casino (assuming it is part of MGM/Mlife). In other words, if I am staying at MGM and gamble at MB, only half of that play gets counted towards comps at my home casino.
