VPFree 2.0 lists several strip offerings (CET, V/P and other properties) as having 99% VP on "All Star Poker" machines. Are those "Spin" poker machines or standard poker machines?

Also, I've never played or even seen a "Spin" poker machine. It looks like a slot machine but I would guess you get an initial deal or spin and have a chance to hold cards similar to playing a standard machine. Is this correct or am I missing something.

I am comfortable playing the standard machines in terms of odds and strategy (from cards), but I am not certain of how the "Spin" portion impacts odds. I also do not understand the impact of the 6th coin multiplier games impacts odds.

I have comped nights at CET in August and will likely play limit poker or tournament play and little else (perhaps the ASP machines if they are like standard machines). My other comp stays offer good FP standard machines.

Just curious as to how these machines work and if odds are impacted.

    Thanks!

The All Star Poker machines that I have played at Aria and Wynncore have a number of different multi-play games on them. You can play triple, five and ten play games (JOB, deuces, DB, DDB, etc). They also usually have super times pay (my fave), spin poker and spin poker deluxe.

Its just a way of capturing a whole variety of games in a single machine and calling it All Star Poker.

Yep, it's a multigame unit. Same with "Superstar Poker". If the 99%+ game they suggest is a spin poker game (fairly common w/MGM, not as much w/ V/P and CET as those games are still < 99%), the return is not affected at all, just the variance (bankroll swing) changes from possibly playing multiple lines. I say possibly because spin poker allows you to play 5 credits per line without playing max lines. But one word of warning, if you only play one line of a spin poker machine, you still see all the possibilities and all the hands you "could have made" if you would have played more lines.

Also, any game that's on an "All Star Poker" machine that has the STP designation, add ~0.28% to the return listed on VPFree2 for betting the Super Times Pay bet (6 credits per hand). The nice thing about STP, again you don't have to play max lines to play 6 credits per line, but this time, they won't show you what cards would have showed up if you bet more.

Thank you luvstp and tringlomane for your responses. I've seen pictures of these machines and walked passed them, but didn't understand the odds and stuck with my standard 1/3 line play on standard machines.

The best CET $1 or $2 STP game is 98.45% JOB without the + 0.28% 6 coin bonus. Better than most CET Vegas machines, but I'll save a bulk of my VP money for 10/7 DB or 9/6 JOB. Many times I'll pick JOB due to the lower volatility.

I may toss one or two hundred into the Wynn 9/5 JOB w/ STP to try it out. It's the only casino I've gambled at a decent clip over the years without comps (though I haven't played significant VP).

I am definitely going to try the 9/6 JOB STP $0.25 game at Gold Coast (and possibly El Cortez) if they exist. I used to spend hours playing 9/6 at their bar, but they pulled the games. I never knew Boar's Head offers 9/6 JOB. I'll be there in August!!!

    Thanks again!

Yeah, CET generally sucks for good video poker as you probably noticed. 9/5 JoB (98.45% max) exists for Spin Poker at Flamingo and Planet Hollywood (maybe others, I stopped looking on VPFree2...lol) for dollars. The best choice among all the CET properties for dollars looks to be Rio as VPFree2 says they offer dollars.

But games with Super Times Pay for CET are capped out at 7/5 Bonus (nearly identical strategy to JoB) (98.29% w/STP bet). They exist at Quad on on All Star machines, or Planet Hollywood (Super Times Pay machines next to poker room - not currently listed in VPFree2). Quad is 3/5 Play with nickels, dimes, quarters. Planet Hollywood is 3/5/10 Play with nickels, dimes, quarters.

Wynn definitely has better STP at the dollar level. Particularly "Airport Deuces" (98.91% w/o STP; 99.19% w/STP bet). Of course, you would have to like to play/learn proper "Airport Deuces" strategy for that. And learning "Full Pay Deuces" also would be a bad strategy for that... :( 9/5 JoB is still decent (98.72% w/STP)

As for MGM, if you want good STP from there, Luxor is one of the better choices since they have 8/5 Bonus with STP (99.44% w/STP) for dollars along with 9/6 DDB (99.26% w/STP) and "Airport Deuces".

Off-strip, I would definitely go to Gold Coast if you primarily are a JoB player and play 9/6 JoB w/STP (99.82% w/STP); this can be +EV with a multiplier day. You can play the game at El Cortez if you like as well, but I dunno if I would suggest that unless you want to learn "Multistrike Strategy" in greater detail. Example: Hold two high cards over a low pair on Level 1 to promote advancing to Level 2. El Cortez also has dollar 9/6 JoB coin droppers according to VPFree2.

Basically the rule with STP is this: If the paytable is the same (or better, duh), play STP. If it's worse, play the better paytable. Oh and if it hasn't been clear to this point. If you play Spin Poker or Super Times Pay, strategy is unaffected from normal single-line or multi-line machines. If you play Multistrike Super Times Pay (at El Cortez), strategy IS affected.

Thanks for the additional information. If I play anything during my CET stay, it will be 8/5 BP at the Rio (using JOB strategy) or just above 99%. I may try the Wynn as well and hope to get on a run and finally get a Wynn comp offer.

I'm comfortable with anything from 1 line quarter to 3 line dollar. I prefer 3 line dollar (vs. 1 line) for the volatility (I'll bail after one or two bills if it's not happening). I was able to hit PIAD playing 9/5 at Bally's AC. I didn't set out to do it, but I stayed in a good range (Down $300 - Up $600) and after a few hours I had about 2,300 tier credits.

I prefer 9/6 JOB and 10/7 DB (or FPDW - but that game is boring for me as it's basically a hunt for 2s) and will spend most time/funds committed to those games which give me a decent chance at an even or profitable trip.

I don't plan on playing at CET anywhere in the future (unless they tempt me with a $750 road to rewards challenge in the future) so I don't care much if my play is limited to a quick VP session and some live poker or some hit and run blackjack.

I'll also hit up Gold Coast while I'm at the Rio and possibly a day while I am staying at the Cal to try the STP 9/6 JOB. I'll pass on Multistrike as I am at the limit in remembering strategy (JOB/DB and DW), of course keeping back up cards for a brain or beer cramp.

One variety of those triple-line Spin Poker machines has the availability to play up to 9 lines off the one-line hand that your are dealt. Besides the 3 "straight-across" lines, you can also play the diagonals and the "corner-top-corner", and corner-bottom-corner" combinations. It makes for exciting expectations and multi-hit combinations, but it can get expensive ... turning a 3-play hand ($3.75 per play - max quarters) into a 9-play hand ($11.25 per play - max quarters).

Yep, and all the cards are displayed, so I generally avoid playing Spin Poker because I usually only want to play one line or 3 lines at the max since I could just play quarters instead with much more than that. Sometimes it's the best game I can find though. My two closest casinos made Spin Poker the best nickel game available from what I have seen (6/5 Super Aces Bonus - 97.78%) But I really don't want to see a Royal or 4 Aces on one of the other 6 to 8 lines I didn't pay for...lol
