I have The Quad booked, but im thinking of the Rio. I love being on the strip so thats a concern. I know there is a shuttle every 30mins up to 1am.

Any advice or comments between the two? How much is a taxi between the two?

The Quad Casino has been remodelled but the rooms have not; hands down I would pick Rio. You have the Rio, Gold Coadt and Palms shuttle available and a cab will be around $8.

I haven't been to the quad since it has been remodeled, but I can say rio is a much larger/open/spacious property. The pool at rio is fantastic.

I can't tell you anything about the shuttles, but its only about a 15 min walk to the strip.

The Rio shuttle runs the latest, 1:00 a.m; Gold Coast 12:30 a.m. And Palms 8:00 pm. Quad pool is crap-tastic, Rio pool is fantastic.

Well, i just got back from Rio 2 days ago, i also stayed at Imperial Palace in Nov.
I have always stayed on the Strip for many, many years. But i LOVED the RIO. I upgraded to a Premium Strip/Pool view in the Ipinema Tower. The Ipinema is the closest to the Rio shuttle as well as having Starbucks and a gift shop/drink/snacks store just off the elevators.
I used the shuttle all last week from Sun-Fri. 4 times a day. The Rio actually has two shuttles......Bally's and Harrah's. They are mostly staggered so that while you are waiting for Bally's, the Harrah's shuttle pulls up and visa versa. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a shuttle. The shuttle to Bally's is quicker however, because you are just going down on Flamingo Blvd to Bally's, and Bally's once inside, you can just walk across to Paris via the walkway inside. If you take the Harrah's shuttle it will be a little longer because when you exit the Rio you have to go all the way up to the Fashion Show Mall then go east to Arville and venture back to behind Harrah's. It's no big deal, but i usually took the Bally's shuttle even when i went back up to Venetian, Wynn.
The pool at Rio was a plus, especially since the weather last week was over a 100. The pool at Rio, especially at the Ipinema Tower, where it's just less than a minute from your room, has 4 pools. The Adult Pool, was open at 11 am to 7 pm, the other 3 pools opened much earlier, were great because you could spend the first couple of hours at the regular pool then venture over to the Adult pool for the remaining time. The Adult pool has heated whirlpools, a live DJ, dancers, etc. if you choose the Adult pool. The pool hours probably extend in the summer.
The Quad i would stay away from until everything is finished, probably Spring 2014. I stayed at the Quad/IP in Nov. but at that time the construction was minimal.

You technically could, and some do, but I seriously recommend not making the walk from Rio to the strip. Narrow sidewalk, lots of traffic and nothing in between. Take the shuttle or decide your life s worth the $8 cab fare, just too dangerous traffic wise.

Yes, just over the freeway. You can enter Caesars on Flamingo Blvd, there's an entrance to Caesars about 3 quarters of the way, or just take a few minutes extra for the Strip.
But on a hot day and the frequency of two shuttles, it kind of makes walking from/to the Rio unnecessary. Unless of course you'll be going back to Rio after 1 am.

Totally agree. I'm an athletic guy and am not physically limited. That being said, I only walked once from strip to Rio and will never do it again. Extremely unsafe, unpleasant, and rather pointless with all of the practical transportation choices available.

Also, Rio above Quad on every aspect except for price. And the greater expense is worth it for Rio.

I almost managed to stay clear of the Quad/Imperial Palace since I first and last stayed their in January 1996. About a year ago my wife and I decided to have the lunch buffet thinking that it still couldn't be that bad. Wrong, unless pecan pie is suppose to be green.

Agree 100%. It's probably one losing blackjack hand ($10.00) to take a cab and very much worth it. The walk is longer than you think and not comfortable.

I’ll go against the tide and say I prefer the Quad.

The rooms and the pools at the Rio are for sure superior to the Quad's. But the Quad is on the strip. I hated taking the shuttles back and forth from the Rio to the strip and vice versa. I had stayed at the Rio in 2012 and at the Quad in 2013. I would rather forsake a better room at the Rio, for the ease and freedom of being on the strip and stay at the Quad.

To each their own, but depending on the location of your room inside The Quad, it could take you just as long to walk from your room to the strip sidewalk as it would to take a shuttle from the Rio to the strip. And that is absolutely no exaggeration. The place is a maze of corridors, elevators, escalators, multi-level passages that lead nowhere, and sometimes a route requiring a combination of several escalators and elevators just to get to the ground floor from your room. Then you've got to navigate through the shopping corridor, past the closed-down construction areas of the former casino, squeeze through the tiny walkway between the check-in desk and another construction barrier, past the new porte cochere, around the new central bar and through the entire new casino before you've reached the street...are we having fun and enjoying the convenience yet?

Pretty much this. I did the walk from Rio to Bally's in the daytime, and it definitely seemed longer than I'd thought it would be. And no way in hell I would do it at night.

If you want to stay out on the Strip past 1 am, Quad has an advantage in that regard unless you want to rack up cab fares. Otherwise, I'd consider staying at Rio and sneaking over to Gold Coast and Palms to gamble since I like Video Poker...

That being said, I had no issues with my room at Quad in May. I knew it was going to be old and rundown, but Rio's rooms are much, much nicer.

I still think Quad is still more convenient than the Rio shuttle though. First time we ever took the shuttle to Rio, we had to wait ~30min. (2 shuttles) to get on the damn thing. Last trip we were at Tower 3-18th floor of Quad near the end of the hall (no noise whatsoever), and we were still out the front door in ~5 minutes.

Well, maybe it has changed, but when i was there 2 weeks ago, the 2 shuttles, one to Bally's and one to Harrah's, from Rio, were staggered so that the wait was minimal. Yes, the last shuttle promptly leaves at 1 am, but for most people, like myself, are not going to travel between casinos after 1 am.
I stayed at the Quad in Nov. because at that time the Quad was the cheapest. But now for 2013, i had Rio comped, and Caesars (August), and Bally's (Nov) comped as well. But for 2014, i will not hesitate to stay at Rio again, especially if only the Rio and Quad were the only hotels comped. The shuttle was one of the highlights of my stay......met some nice people.
Now, i must say that i only travel to Vegas from Sun-Fri, as far as weekends, well, YMMV.

My solution: Request a room in Towers 1 & 2 and for the room to be near the main elevator. Fast and easy exit -- Walk past check-in desk and out the EXIT to the new porte cochere and you are steps away from Harrah's and the strip.
