Hi Everyone-- I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts, and especially about your experience, with hosts using their discretion with comps. For example, suite upgrades and freeplay. Just how much discretion do they really have and how often can they exercise that discretion with an individual player?

for example i was taking my parents to dinner was told a couple of weeks earleir i had 200to 300-- for food.

stop by the property during the day just to confirm how much i had, they contacted the host on duty and they said i can 150 $, i asked them to email the original person i spoke to,he comes in at 5pm ,we meet and he gave me 300$ for dinner so they have flexibilty and also helps if you have a relationship with them.

A fair amount of leeway, but it depends on your relationship with your host

It's really all based on your average play. They can give you less than you deserve anytime, but more only so often before it raises red flags with their bosses.

You did not mention specific casinos, but... Freeplay is rather difficult to get from a host. Upgrades not so great either, unless it is part of the original reservation.

Food - based on play they have more room. MGM and CET are wanting you to use points more and more though.

It does seem like they have ample discretion, but they can't use it every time (if you get overly generous treatment on one trip, don't ask for it on the next couple of trips.) Also it seems they use this discretion once they come to believe you are a solid, repeat client who will book through them.

Here are two example of hosts using their discretion to overcomp me:

    1) Years ago my MGM host who I really never talked to much comped me a marquee suite for someone's bachelor party trip along with some casino rate rooms for the other guys who had no play history. My play was probably only around $100 or so a hand at BJ, a little craps and pgp, and no other games. Not a penny in machines. She also added other things that trip like limos, some dining, help setting something up at tabu, I don't remember all the details. I barely played that trip and she even told me I was overcomped. But I had solo trips prior where all I did was gamble and use very little in terms of comps. Way more than the 4 hrs/day they look for. She no longer works there, she got promoted to national marketing or something and now works for Venetian. She was a good lady though.

    2) Around that same time period I had a host at Bellagio who I really liked, on a personal level I thought he was a nice guy. He was very diligent and smart and we got along well. My play was essentially squat for Bellagio. But I think he took a liking to me and would put me up well and comp my modest dining, send a gift basket, etc. I once sent my parents to Vegas, they don't really gamble at all, and I asked him if he could put them up even though I wasn't going to be there and they wouldn't gamble. He did it right away, he also gave them tickets to O and sent them a gift basket. Net net the cost may have been insignificant but it was huge show of graciousness from my perspective. I stayed loyal to the Bellagio for the next couple of years until he eventually left the business completely.

This was all before MLife came into existence. I imagine things have become a lot more data driven since this program rolled out. I also don't have any hosts right now who I get that type of vibe from.

Interesting! Thanks to all responders. My host is very good to me and has never told me "no", but I don't ask for much beyond the usual luxuries. :) I may need to expand my horizons once in awhile!

I like what shifter said, if you have never heard no, your not asking for enough. LOL!!

This is my story, stayed in terrace suite 5 nights, may 20-25. Upfront comp, room, $300 f/b per day, $900fp for me and $900 for husband.

This is what we spent. About $2500-3k in food ($1000) was cabana, $1000 at spa/salon, 4-5 limo rides, $250 tattoo.

We had $9709 in exp comps upon arrival, maxed those out within a couple hours, so host took $500 to be able to earn more. Upon checkout everything comped/or exp comped... and I am left with $8500 in exp comps. Gambling, all slots, total coin in $203,000. Tier credits earned 679,568

So did my host over comp or under comp me... no idea! I have no clue on how it all works anymore. I don't know how many exp comps I earned, for him to take $1800 (plus what I don't know I earned), but I am happy with the outcome, whether I got screwed or the host!!! Probably me, LOL!!!

Well speaking for myself, my home casino is MGM Detroit. And i stay at the same Mlife property everytime i go to LV (3-4 times a year). Over time ive met a hostess and use her always. I get standard offers from the property, say 3 nights deluxe room and $200 Freeplay. But i ALWAYS book through her and request better. I gamble at all Mlife properties and the majority at my hotel. Anyway, im going June 20th and Im getting 4 nights in a Players Suite comped along with the resort fee's comped. And $500 in FreePlay. She hooks me up like this time and time and time again. I always ask because im loyal to the property and always feel like i get poor offers for how much i gamble. The morale of the story is, YES, hosts have alot more discretion to give more than you might think.

My host seems to have allot of discretion, but my trip bankroll is well north of 80K each trip (not bragging just giving perspective). My next trip I'm in Hotel32 Pent (just like last time). "Free" Beyonce front row tickets, "virtually" unlimited food and beverage, limo (not only from airport but also can use to go to dinner), I drink anything I want even when I'm out on the regular casino floor playing craps, no charge for in room bar liquor, and this last time I kept all my Express Comps. I've blessed that I have been able to increase my bankroll significantly over the past 3 years, I find myself enjoying Vegas a little more each time I go. I have not dissolution, it's my money they are after and they are willing to kiss my ass as long as they have a shot at my bankroll.

so last weekend I was at the Beau and didn't play much. I only had about 2500 in theo and they comped me about 4k including 1200 in cash for airfare. my host couldn't comp it all because it was way over her limit, but i talked to the Sr host and the director and they agreed to take care of me. they made it clear that it was way more than my play deserved, but they did it for me because of my relationship. so there's a ton that can be done discretionary on top of whatever numbers they're supposed to follow for the right customer.
