I read somewhere that you can bring your own tubes into the pool at MB instead of spending $20 a day to rent. Anyone know how true that is?

Also, is it true you can bring a soft cooler in? We plan on stocking up on flat of bottled water at Costco before we head there. (We live in Phoenix and are driving) I'd like to fill the cooler with bottles of water so we aren't spending a ton.

We're doing this trip over 4th of July. As we are from Seattle originally, we decided to get out of town because Phoenix 4th of July's aren't like back home. We have a pool in our own back yard but something about Vegas on the 4th sounded way more appealing and lavish.

kimkeae, the websiste states no coolers or outside beverages are allowed. I don't see anything about tubes besides that ones are available for purchase. I'm sorry I can't help more. I've never been. I'm the type that turns bright red in about 30 seconds so pools have never been my thing. :)

kimkeae, I don't know about Mandalay Bay but most of the strip pools do not allow outside coolers/beverages. They like to sell you $6 water bottles. Yes, I feel that is ridiculous. No idea about the tubes.

The OP may have been thinking of recent discussions about sneaking drinks into the pool at Bally's and Flamingo. I found those threads doing a quick search on 'coolers'.
I'll post the links later today from my laptop (I'm not fully functional on my iPad),

    hello all,

We went last April to Mandalay Bay pool last April my buddy was staying there and got us passes. Security was very tight, they made you use your pass to go thru the turn stile. And if I recall correctly they looked thru girlfriends purse. The beers we had in hand we had to finish before we entered. The big thing about their pool area was the wave pool. Hope this helps. Have fun.

I was just there about 10 days ago and yes, you have to present room key to get in and they do scan it to go through turnstile. They were checking bags and such. According to the website, no outside beverages allowed, no coolers allowed. I would call about the inner tubes if I was you. 877-305-3136

Not sure how many in your party, but I rented one of the padded lounge chairs for the day. I was solo and at first I thought, no way am I paying $50 for a chair that is free, but it was worth it as I didn't have to get there early and fight for a free chair, plus you get an umbrella if you want one and bucket of ice and I think it was 6 bottles of water.

With the right bag you can walk in with a water/Gatorade or two in many scenarios. I wouldn't try and sneak booze in since that's their big business out there but I have no problem saying that I'd like to stay hydrated without spending $6-$10 a pop for water. As much water as I like to drink that would get expensive!

On the tube thing, we bought an actual Mandalay Bay one while at the pool once and we just bring it back.

You cant bring in water bottles and outside of the casino wanting to charge $6 a bottle, its probably because you can fill a bottle with vodka without cracking a seal on the water bottle.

Ask me how I know?

We were there in the middle of April. Don't remember them selling $6 bottles of water, maybe at the cafe? the bar over by the wave pool had a water dispenser that was full of iced lemon water for free. Pretty sure you can bring empty water bottles in.

As far as tubes go, yes you can bring your own. Just remember, the only place you can use them is the lazy river.

I specifically read somewhere that you can bring a soft cooler into the pool area but not one of those large crazy hard plastic ones. I figured I'd bring a soft one with some bottles of water in it so I didn't spend $50 on water. I don't drink and spending $50 on water (A DAY!) seems downright nuts. If you can bring soft coolers in, which we still haven't totally established, why would they not let you bring stuff in the coolers?

Also, as for the tubes, I read somewhere that you can bring your own for the lazy river instead of spending $20 a day on them. There are 4 in our party. That's $80 a day for 4 days. That's kinda crazy!

Actually, we did establish this. The FAQ on Mandalay Bay's website in the pool section say no coolers and no outside beverages. :)

    Card swipe

Does anyone know if you have to swipe your room kep to get into the Mandalay bay pool or simply flash your room key to the attendant?

We stayed mid week in April and just walked through the turnstile. Probably all depends on who's manning the gate that day.

You hand them the key card and they put it in a slot to check it as you come through the turnstile. So they at least the give the appearance of checking to make sure they are valid. They do not seem 100% rigid (i.e., each person is supposed to have a key, but they will let a couple with one card through without too much hassle usually)

Mandalay Bay pool area has water dispensers with lemon set up on their bars, they will also give you a cup, cover and a straw, that is all free. If there aren't cups right next to the dispenser just ask the bartender for one.

You can bring your own tubes to the Mandalay Bay Beach complex, they will even inflate them for you, just ask the person who sells the MB tubes to do it for you.

They are hardcore about checking keys, they will take the key and stick it in the card verifier and if it is valid it will display your name and the day you are checking out.

If you have a Noir card just show it to the gate attendant at ANY MGM RESORT pool and they will let you right in even if you are not staying at that particular hotel. I think they will even let you in with a platinum card but I am not 100% sure on that.

Lastly, I recommend the Absolut frozen blue lemonade drinks while at the pool at MB, they are the bomb! Ask for a floater on top and get the refillable cup that is good every trip back to the pool and it's almost half price to refill them.

I do not know about Mandalay Bay specifically, but when I stayed at Monte Carlo this month, you were allowed to use your own innertubes to save on the $12 rental for 36" and $15 rental for 48". As a result, my g/f and I saved ~$17 for one day using the lazy river as 2 36" intertubes cost us ~$7 at Walmart and taking ~10 minutes to inflate. That is significant money best used elsewhere, imo.

Edit: KingBB says you can bring your own tubes in Mandalay as well.

I've swept the snark and frugal vs cheap arguments out of this thread.

My apologies to the OP for not catching it quicker. Please everyone remember the report post icon in the upper right of every post and PM on the board. We still have our refillable cups from last year at the pool. I Wonder if they have changed them or if we could go back for refill prices. KINGBBINLV I like half pina colada and Half Lime daquiri!! But maybe I will try that blue one this time around. The floater on top is certainly a must!

We had no problem taking in tubes but they wouldn't let any beverages through the turnstiles. Not OJ, not coffee, NOTHING. It had to be poured out and then waterbottles could be filled on the other side.

They will still refill the cups from last year and charge you the refill price, I think they are like $11 to refill them.
