Fly Southwest and take a big suitcase or two with plenty of room to take a narrow real cooler (I have one designed to go behind my truck seat that holds 750 liquor bottles and cans easily). We put anything fragile inside and it stays safe. I took a second empty rolling duffle last time to bring my wife's purchases home in and the Southwest lady got a kick out of my explanation of checking that empty suitcase on the way out.

Vegasnut, where do you stay. Another question for all you out there...My husband is diabetic and on insulin that has to be refrigerated, if I call the Flamingo (where we are staying) ahead of time will they provide a refrigerator?

When we were there in Dec. we had a fridge in our GO room. Don't take my word for it though and call ahead and make sure.

I'm pretty sure we didn't have a fridge in the Fab room I stayed in last year (or I don't remember seeing one), so it's possibly room dependent. I definitely call ahead

I've never heard about the $1.50 well drinks at CR. Is that only at the same $1 Michelob bar or any bar in CR?

Go to one of the many WalMarts in Vegas, buy a fridge, return said fridge on the day you leave.

Agree that $20 for a "free" drink is not a good value, but that's not always the case. When I was at NYNY center bar some people were putting in $10 and playing 25 cent single line VP and getting many comped drinks over a 2 hour period. When I say "playing", they were drawing every 10 minutes. Most places enforce the max play rule, however you can drink cheap if you get the right bartender and leave a decent tip.

Over the same 2 hour period I dropped $20 dollars playing VP, but 8 goose and tonics made up the difference so it's all good.

Someone here has a great list of Happy Hours, some of which have some really good drink specials. As already mentioned, there are $1 Michs at Casino Royal, or you have buy beer/liquor and keep it in your room. My husband works for a beer company so we have about 2,435 different coolers, some of which are these great 18 pack coolers that fold completely flat when empty. We stick a couple in our suitcase and then leave them behind when we check out.

As for VP - we also live by the "drink fast, play slow" motto. Sure, sometimes we end up with a $20 drink, but more often than not we end up with 4-5 drinks for that $20, and there's been plenty of times we walk away up $30 or $40 (or much more) plus the 4-5 drinks.

All that being said, when we were in Vegas in Feb with some friends who hadn't been before, they were getting all whiny about how expensive everything was. I finally asked them in frustration "What do you want to do?" and they said "Go someone that we can sit and relax and have cheap drinks". I told them their best bet was to call a cab to take them off strip to an Applebees or something, cuz they weren't going to find that on the strip. And that is why I rarely go to Vegas with other people.

The secret is to find a CW then sit near her as she is making her rounds. Put a dollar into the slot machine to make it look like your are playing. You don't even have to play, pretend by pushing buttons. You will get your drink as the CW comes back around. Essentially no gambling is needed to get a free drink, just make it look like you are playing by pushing buttons.

We used to like the walk-up rum or tequila style slushies at the Coyote Ugly... but now it's apparently closed. :grrr:

Does anyone know if there are other walk-up places like this (hopefully in or near the MGM Grand)?

    Thanks everyone... love these forums!

I think most casino/hotels have some sort of a frozen drink stand. There are several Fat Tuesday locations on the Strip and there are other bar units everywhere....http://www.fat-tuesday.com/site288.php

Did this on a trip to Florida, I packed a soft sided cooler that came with a 30 pack of Coors Light (before my wife discovered Blue Moon). EPS foam coolers are way too fragile, break easily and end up in landfills.

in MGM I believe there is a fat Tuesdays down the stairs at the hotel lobby that leads to Brad Garrett's comedy club.
I think there is also another place on the left side just past the food court when heading towards the pool.
