I email my host telling him I am coming to Vegas over July 4th. I tell him that I will likely not gamble much, if at all, this trip. I ask him if I should book through him or just call reservations.

He emails back and says he will take care of it, and asks what I need. I say, "just a room".

I did not get a final confirmation back from him, so I called VIP and asked what they had under my name. Turns out he gave me a comp Executive Suite, some food and beverage credit, and arranged limo pickup at airport.

Relationships matter. If you are approaching mid level stakes, you should make the effort to develop host relationships.

Which hotel? What has your play been like in the past?

trust me, he's not just doing this out of goodwill. he knows that when gamblers get near a casino they gamble. regardless of what they say beforehand about their intentions not to gamble much or at all, etc, etc, that's what gamblers do. he's betting that when you get there you'll still play plenty and cover everything anyway. and it's probably a fairly safe bet.

Had similar discussion with my host on my last trip, a "what if" and also about the new Diamond "Aspirations II" level, which offers a free 4 night stay anywhere, and I asked if that still is a ding on the ADT, and she said "Yes, it has to be, you're in the system. Don't see how it couldn't. Not sure what they were thinking on that."

Point is, and your host is being a good guy, no question, but it will ding your ADT, but your host likely is aware and would make little difference in future comps FROM THAT HOST, but if you go to another property or host, your ADT might not look as strong to them.

I don't know how hosts at CET do things, but I know at MGM properties a host will look at your past few trips and ignore one low one if the others are strong. sure your actual offers from the computer might go down as they just look at ADT/ADW, but it won't matter to the host.

That is what she said, that for her, if I have a low play trip, she knows "shit happens," people get sick, bad things happen, have a bad run, so she can dismiss that.

It's another property or host, where you have no relationship, that they can be sketchy.

I had a down trip a few years ago, it was the weekend that Dan Weldon died at the LVMS, and I also had a mechanic on a team I sponsor die in his hotel room (still no idea why/how, just hear failure) that same Sunday morning, so needless to say, half my trip (sunday/monday) went to crap, and I was in a bad mood and my play went way down...just wasn't into it
She was cool about it and said it happens, where something goes sour on a trip, and that's to be expected. Do it a few times, that's a different story.

Never forget, I was in Cosmo secret pizza when my phone started lighting up like a christmas tree about Dan Weldon, and I was already in a funk from the news that morning

First off, why they even make it a big deal about getting 4 nights anywhere. Anyone (95% at least) that is even near that level pretty much can get all the free nights they want.

Secondly, - of course it will count towards your future ADT. Whenever you are in the casino with any play or comp, it counts. Why would they not count it?

Exactly, that's why my host and I were talking about it and she even said it was silly and didn't make a lot of sense, because like you said, if you're a diamond at that level, you're going to get 4 free nights at any CET property with no problem, it's not like there are any uber-elite CET properties like Aria or Bellagio or a Four Seasons tower that they could guarantee in the program.

    It's a silly, useless "perk"

Totally a curiosity question, what would you consider mid-level stakes (Craps)?

Even though he's not doing it out of the goodness of his heart, he certainly could have put you in a lower comp space for the same period and still taken as much advantage of the play you'd likely put in anyways. It is pretty good customer service all things told.

I have a similar experience. I play slots, we go to Vegas around four times a year and I will generally drop at least $2,000 each trip, we are low Diamond and normally get comped at Flamingo for a GO room (we can get better most of the time, but we're comfortable there). I e-mailed my host because we wanted to entertain some family for a weekend next month and wanted to show them a great time. She comped me and my husband in the Augustus Tower at Caesars and we're paying around $200 total for our family in the Augustus Tower as well. I told her in advance that we probably wouldn't play much and she said it would hurt my computer offers for a bit, but she could always get me a room whenever I want.

My point is, it makes me feel appreciated.

I am Mlife, and agree they seem to just look at the past few trips. Twice while talking to an MGM Resorts host about my average bet, they rattle off the avg bet from my last 3 or 4 trips. They have never referenced an actual ongoing total average.

And agree, I have a good/long enough relationship with the host that it will not matter (especially since I told him in advance I would not be gambling, and never actually asked for any comps)

I play blackjack 99% of the time, so not sure for craps. For blackjack, I would say playing with black chips. Craps avg bet is a bit confusing to me (odds don't count towards avg bet??), so not really sure what the equivalent is.

My original quote was "approaching mid level stakes", so for blackjack I was referring to someone who is starting to hit avg BJ bet of $100. That is the time to start working on a host relationship rather than generically working through VIP/Casino Marketing.

Exactly! This was really my point. I did not ask for limo service, or a suite, or F&B credit in advance. He exceeded my expectation when he did not need to - I literally gave him permission to comp based on play this trip.

there's been many threads here in the past about the definition of low, mid, High Roller, whale, etc. everybody has a different opinion, but as far as the high end casinos are concerned, $100 avg is nowhere near mid-level play. mid-level play is where you start to get into basic suites at RFB at about the $400-500 level. that mid roller level goes up to about $3-4k avg. above that level is where they really start to take good care of you with the big suites and stuff that would put you into the high roller category.

However you want to define it, I think once you hit $100 avg bet, it is time to start looking for a host relationship.
