Anybody else sick of seeing all the construction barriers, noise and mess in Vegas? All of the Caesars hotels for the Linq, the MGM hotels for "The Park", and the entire length of Fremont Street and 3rd street, as well as Fremont East district, are all ripped up. It's just beyond crazy, and getting near-impossible to find an intact place in the city. I may just have to take a year or so off.....

Can't argue with that. I think Vegas has been under construction from our first trip forward.

Sam, you're a fearless explorer, always ahead of the trends and looking out for the low roller/bargain hunter (and a handsome devil on top of that).

Why not try the Boulder Highway Strip and report back to us? I haven't heard of any construction going on over there.

Yea, it's like highway construction, it's an ever present on going event. However, it's no fun being in the middle of it while it's happening, even if the outcome is beneficial.

The thing is, there doesn't seem to BE an outcome, as it's on every block, in every hotel, and perpetual. And you can't tell me that hotels aren't LOSING money by ticking off and inconveniencing guests. I highly doubt that the Fremont, Golden Gate and 4 Queens hotels have much to gain from having their guests subjected to pounding jackhammers at 7 am. The entire street is ripped up for 5 blocks to install a zipline that is owned by only one company. And everyone who doesn't use that zipline is inconvenienced.

Maybe people would like to walk between the Flamingo and Harrah's without being ushered inside The Quad. Perhaps someone might like to get from City Center to Excalibur without having to cross over the strip and back again. Maybe those with a lake view room at Bellagio might be disgusted by seeing a flea market erected in front of Bally's.

I'm all for keeping people employed, but during the economic downturn, nobody was employing these people to maintain their decaying facades, deteriorating overhead bridges and broken walkways/escalators. When things picked up, it was more important to install ferris wheels and vortex lightshows than fixing up outdated rooms and elevators (I'm talking to you, Quad).

BTW, thanks, Lola, and Boulder isn't a bad suggestion. I might consider that.

    (end of rant)

Hasn't it been like that for decades on some level? I will admit that the whole area by Harrah's/Quad/Flamingo seems like it's been a mess for years, but it's getting better.

Vegas is always changing. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not. :wink2:

I'm actually the opposite. Whenever I'm walking down the Strip I intentionally get off the sidewalk and go through the casinos, even if I know I'm not going to gamble or do anything. Air conditioned, no porn slappers, better people watching. Margaritaville/Flamingo, Harrah's, Venetian/Palazzo and others are good for this.

I second this emotion. Bally's and Bellagio are my two "homes" in Vegas (depending on who I am with and how much I'm spending...) and I don't see how the Grand Bazaar will be good for either of them, if it ever actually happens.

"At some level" is the important part of your question, Sonya. How long has it been since you were downtown? When I tell you that the entire Fremont and surrounding areas are under construction (from Hennessy's down to the Plaza), it's not a tall tale. No tourist area should be gutted to this extreme all at once. It will have long-term negative consequences to the entire Fremont district for the sake of one thrill attraction. And how many people have vowed not to return to CET properties after the one-two punch of the blocks-long construction chaos throughout multiple hotels and the wonderful new resort fees (you can toss the closure of Bill's and O'Sheas's into the mix for further emphasis)? With the number of local casinos that have opened nationwide in the past few years and all of the more reasonably-priced entertainment options within easy reach, Vegas seems to be committing slow suicide.

I don't want to get into a pissing match Sam, but I was there last month and yes it was an inconvenience, but nothing we couldn't deal with. We'll be there again tomorrow and if things have changed for the worst, I'll report.

Darn, I was hoping to put my collection of 80s-action-hero catchphrases to good use. "Hasta la vista, baby!". Have fun on your trip, Joe!

The idea is to get it done quickly. I am happy they are doing it all at once, and not slowly completing section by section, and taking a whole summer to do it. I remember when they built the canopy. People were all saying the same thing that I am reading here, that they would never go back, and that it ruined Fremont St. In reality, I do not think many of the casinos would be left on Fremont St had they not built it. Then it happened again when they replaced all the lights in the canopy.

I felt the same way as you about the constant construction a couple of years ago, when every month I would go, the car rental center would be in shambles. I took some time off, then when I returned I felt much differently. I dont like all the construction, but I do like the end results...even if I dont like or use them.

I'd be a bigger fan of the construction if I actually liked what they were constructing.

In the case of IP, Osheas, and Bill's it has meant the elimination of my three favorite kitschy low roller joints. Don't get me wrong, I like the nice places alot but I liked it better when you had the choice to play craps at the Bellagio and then walk across the street and slum it at Barbary Coast.

The zip line on Fremont is not my cup of tea either.

The Plaza, Golden Gate, and The D renovations all get my thumbs up but those are in the bag and done.

Or maybe stay off-strip and off-downtown at one of the local casinos, until the dust settles, lol.

I'm thinking of doing this if I visit later on this year.

I agree that the seemingly endless construction pisses lots of people off.

In april I wanted to sit on the patio and have wings at mickey finnz and they ruined that with nothing but a construction tarp to look at.

I will try to check out more places like south point, the orleans and boulder hwy on my july visit.

I arrive on a friday in july and have stayed on fremont the past few trips but I think I will find somwhere else with a decent pool and stay away from all that crap.

hooters or the orleans both have great pool areas.
