So…after an eternity of pairs, flush draws and complete garbage, you finally find yourself staring at the whole reason for playing VP: four to a royal*.

Do you do a little dance?
Cross all your fingers, toes, legs…anything else you can find?
    Rub a rabbit’s foot?
Beg or bargain with the machine (or your maker)?
Or is it just business as usual?

Me, I usually pause for a beat while muttering under my breath, “BE there”. Then I tap the draw button with just a little more gusto than usual...then utter a series of expletives at that ****ing four of diamonds! :grrr:

*If you play a game that places a huge premium on certain quads, you may substitute your “routine” for drawing with three aces or whatever.

We usually fling "pixy dust" from our fingers onto the screen and then call upon Vern our Lucky Turtle to hit the button. So far he's only come through once, which was at Ellis Island on three to the Royal! A sequential at that. Good turtle! :)

Drawing to that "4 to a Royal" is definitely elusive, with your "chances" at 1 out of 47. And, I play a lot of Triple Play (8/5 Bonus and 9/6 JOB), and have actually hit more Royals drawing 3 cards to only "2 to a Royal" .... even hit one years ago holding only the Q of Hearts, and pulled the other four ... Go figure !!
Last time I filled a 4-card set, with a 1-card draw, was a few months ago at the Rampart on a 10-play machine.

Do I have a ritual? .... Not sure .... I do give a little pause before finding out that four of diamonds is there as usual though so perhaps I do. I'm pleased to say that I only think the expletives though as I move on to the next hand.

Funny how that 4d is never there when I'm drawing to 2356d, 5678d etc though :grrr:

Whatever I do doesn't work. I've been playing for 15 yrs and never hit the royal. What ever it is I am doing at the time will indeed end up being my ritual.

I definitely have a ritual. First, I cuss out the machine for not dealing me the royal, LOL. Then I usually try to get someone else to tell me when to hit the draw button. If I'm sitting alone, I might even flag down a cocktail waitress and ask her to say "when."

    step 1: STOP
step 2: make sure everyone within earshot knows that you have FOUR TO A FUCKING ROYAL
step 3: make sure you actually hold those four
    step 4: let's do shots!
step 5: no whammy no whammy no whammy no whammy DRAW!
    step 6: sigh

Saturday afternoon I was setting in my old dilapidated lazy boy chair,
yes the one my wife hates, with my trusty I-pad in my lap.
My VP trainer deals me 4 to the royal. I hold them and start the speech.

“Don’t you dare do it, don’t you dare do it”, :nono:

    it does it. :grrr:

I start throwing a fit, calling it everything in the book.
My wife comes running asking if I’m OK and I tell her “no, I just won $4000” and keep bitching.

Then I tell her it was just fake money.

Now she is sure I’m totally nuts.

On any four to royal/four to SF/trips I close my eyes when I hit draw and listen for the credits to climb... gives an extra little kick in the groin when you hit a flush or boat. Now that I say that out loud maybe it's not the smartest thing to do ;)

Sometimes fate/reality is as cruel as it can be...

...and you're dealt 4-to-a-royal, as I was, just a few weeks ago...

...and you hold the 4 good cards...

...and what happens is... see attached picture.

    ARRRRGGGHHH!!!!

    Cruel reality!!

My last couple of royals have been like this, it really makes me want to avoid playing for free unless I have subpar play money sessions. lol

As for rituals, I tend to pause for a bit and rub my hands together before hitting the button.

What I do is slow down and very deliberately make sure I'm holding the correct cards before I hit draw. I've never done it, but I'm deathly afraid of misplaying a good hand to the point where I triple check it.

Four to a royal only comes up every 1 in 2765 deals on average, so I think is a good idea for anyone. Many players will hold flushes or even high pairs in this spot because they overlook the four to a royal draw.

    Hey Now!
    I always close
my eyes and hit draw when I have 3 or more to a RF..same when I draw a 3OAK...
Or if Sweet Ti is sitting next to me, I watch her reaction...

    That's hysterical Ronoh!
Any Royal I've ever had has been dealt or when I've held one card, so usually when I get four to a royal, I make certain I've he'd the four, then prepare myself for disappointment. I usually don't have the Jack, so then say loudly "I was one Jack off".

No regular ritual. Just sort of like my old baseball days, I just hit it and hope.

    That's exactly what I do!

It's a pisser when I open my eyes because I am CERTAIN it's ringing up my royal, and it's just finishing my flush!!!
