Where to stay

My husband and I have not been to Vegas in 10 years, and are now planning a trip for our birthdays in July. We are unsure where to stay we are looking in the Luxor to Monte Carlo price range. We will not have a car so we want to stay on the strip. Both of us are not huge gamblers, but do play a little. We are planning on hanging out by the pool for at least 1 day so that is a consideration. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

Monte Carlo isn't very exciting, but it's in a good location, close to all the new stuff at CityCenter. Walkable to PH and Paris.. But then again it's hotter than hell in July... so I don't know how much walking you will want to do. Also take a look at Planet Hollywood and Paris also both great locations.

I stayed at Luxor in March, and the Tower rooms were very nice! Highly recommended, I had a good time at Luxor, I loved being close to Mandalay Bay. But, it's not close to everything else.

Can't speak on pools, because I don't usually use them in Vegas! They all seem nice enough to me haha, but I'm sure others will have better opinions for you.

 

I would stay away from the Luxor..just my opinion. Try Flamingo for the pool. Stay in the GO rooms or a suite. Some say that Flamingo is old and no fun, but we stay at the Flamingo almost every time. Always friendly staff. @ trips ago stayed at Caesars and staff was rude. Gave us an upgrade on a comped room and later tried to charge us $80.00 when we checked out. This is never an issue at the Flamingo. Also, the monorail right behind the Flamingo, which is great in the hot weather. Three pools and a good time.

 

For your party

Just go to the Golden Nugget. Good pool and you don't need a car because all of the action is within 4 blocks. You'll have more fun in old town if you're not going to sleep by 8:30 PM.

Your dilemma is to pick the one for you.

 

Remember the pricing you are seeing online does not include the daily resort fee they are now charging. The range is anywhere from $18-$25 per day depending on the hotel.

You said a pool day is going to happen. Stayed at Monte Carlo and pool is laid back and my fiancé loved the fact they have a lazy river. She and her friends spent hours there.

I read that if you stayed at any of the hotels Caesar's owns you can get into the pool at Flamingo for free by showing your room key.

 

Monte Carlo is a good solid choice. Book it and have a good time.

 

I have to agree with Monte Carlo, nice casino with nice dealers and decent rooms. The luxor casino is so extremely depressing with its blue theme and MC is in a much much better location.

 

I stayed at Monte Carlo recently and thought it was okay, nothing great but the price was good and location is very good. You can get to City Center and Bellagio via tram so if the heat becomes too much to walk in you can get there cooler.

I stayed at Luxor years ago and he location wasn't great for me and there's nothing special about the property.

I'll add Bally's because the location is great and affordable. I thought the hotel was a good value.

 

If having a day by the pool is high on your priority list I would choose Monte Carlo of the two. Both casinos are in extremely close proximity to 3 casinos where you barely have to walk outside. Luxor/Excalibur/Monte Carlo are connected by walk ways and by tram. Monte Carlo/Aria/Bellagio are connected by tram. Being that Monte Carlo is further north you won't have to walk as far to see the whole strip if you go walking in the heat (if walking far is an issue).

Generally we stay at the Luxor (it's friendly and we like the tower suite) but if you aren't much of a gambler you are probably better off staying nearer midstrip plus Monte Carlo has the better pool of the two properties IMO. Hope this helps you make the choice from the two
