A lost marker?

Hypothetically....
When do you assume that a casino has lost a marker.

If I took out a (marker or two) over a month ago and it still has not hit my account, when should I assume it is not going to hit my account?

In Nevada markers are considered promissory agreements, which can be claimed for up to 3 years.

It might be nice to hope and dream that you can get away with gambling with somebody else's money, but were it me I'd probably be contacting them to find out whats holding the marker up...

For me, I wouldn't want some debt out there that is a mystery that might bugger up my bank account by maybe me thinking it was already processed and I end up spending money from the account enough that if it does show it'll bounce or I have just enough in the bank account to pay my mortgage and then end up missing a payment because the marker suddenly came in.

 

Never assume! They'll want their money eventually, better option is to just call them and get it sorted out and off your books sooner rather then later

 

That is not unusual at all and definitely wishful thinking on your part.

I always pay my outstanding markers at the end of the trip or right after I get home but I have forgotten a few on occasion because I usually hop around to several different casinos and sometimes lose track. They would always call or email me after several weeks to ask me about the payment or let me know they were planning on depositing the marker.

The implied understanding when you take out a marker is that you will either pay it back on your own or instruct them to deposit the marker. They will only deposit it without your instruction if your account has become delinquent and even then they will notify you of what they are planning to do.

 

they don't drop markers without your permission as a matter of course. usually they send a letter after 1-2 weeks reminding you. most people send a check or wire money to pay them off. they're waiting on you to contact them and being nice and giving you some extra time. eventually either your host or the collections department will try to contact you, but you should call them first. it's not going to go away.

 

This is what I really like about Boyd gaming. We were there April 20-24 and Saturday they sent me my marker receipts to be paid, with a SASE. OK, I didn't care for the losing part.

I mail them a check and they then mail my markers back.

 

The invoice will arrive on the day after you figured your wife finally forgot about the trip.

My past experience has been very different. If I do not repay them when I leave the casino, the marker is deposited within a week or two and then it clears just like a check. I have done this with markers at AC (2 different casinos) and Vegas (2 different casinos) in the past. I ahve never contacted them to instruct them to do it, they just did it as a matter of course.
But this is the first time I have used the credit line at Planet Ho....maybe their policy is to wait for me to call them.

 

on those lines you probably have a pay before checkout disposition. so as soon as you checkout, if you haven't paid, they run them. normally you get at least 7 days for small lines and 30 days for most lines. on a standard 30 day disposition, they will call you at about 40 days if you haven't made contact with them yet. only if they can't get ahold of you will they just drop them. most people don't want their banker to see markers coming through from Vegas so they prefer to wire the money or write a check.

 

Not sure about the other casinos but this is what usually happens with my boyd markers.

They usually send me a "bill" about 2 weeks after I last took out the marker. Like a bill I have about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks to pay it off or they will take it from my checking account. I usually send in my payment and they send me back the markers will cancelled stamps.


I like that because I don't have to worry about my marker bill for a few weeks although I usually won't go to vegas unless I have the money to go.

 

Just to close the loop - The markers were presented to my credit union today and paid. They did not contact me, just sent them directly to the credit union. That is fine with me....it just suprises me that it took 7 weeks to do it. AC casinos will do it withing 10 days.
