    My Trip Report

    Saturday May 4th.

We flew out of Portland on Southwest. Only half the seats were sold so everyone on board was comfortable. The flight was uneventful, 2 hours of listening to some music. A few bumps on final approach and we landed 10 minutes early. The only thing about Southwest I hate is how far from the main terminal/baggage claim the gates are. It must be a 20 minute forced march. Bell Trans to The D was fairly quick. The check in process proved to be the fastest I have had at any hotel. Up to our room (1402) a corner king. The room was fine, comfortable bed, great working air conditioner. The fridge didnt really work well. A maintenance guy tried to tell me its "an ammonia system and works on a principle other than what I am used to at home." Sorry pal, I am an HVAC service tech and the damn refer dosn't work properly. Water placed in the fridge overnight should be colder that luke warm. Speaking of water I failed to bite at the $2.50 for coffee and $4.50 for water on the table in room. Nor did I, "a special customer" wish to purchase the mattress set made especially for TheD and take it home with me.
We had a scheduled met with another member of the board. At 8:00 pm, the appointed time, I realized I had not idea what RetiredSoccerMon looks like. What else could I do but shout over THE WAY TOO LOUD MUSIC ON THE CASINO FLOOR "is there a RetiredSoccerMom here?" Finally she heard me. My wife and I met up with Angie and her hubby Ron. We went to The Chicago Brew Pub at Four Queens for drinks and conversation. After about an hour we parted ways. They are a great couple and it would be nice to meet up with them again in the future.
Wife and I then made the rounds of the casinos on Fremont Street. Maybe it was me but the cocktail service seemed slow everywhere. I will admit there was a lot of people downtown Saturday and the servers were probably running their butts off They earn every tip they get, ya gotta love them girls. This meant lots of trips to the casino bars between service. The beer was going down very quickly. My wife seemed to be drinking alot too. We made it to bed around 4:00 am.

    Sunday May 5th

Happy Cinco De Mayo! We woke up at 2:00 pm. We had not eaten since we left home the afternoon before. We showered, got dressed and went for food. My wife was soooooo hungover. She isn't much of a drinker really. But Las Vegas brings out the best in her. TheD Cafe on the second floor was empty except for us. We both had the same breakfast. 2 eggs, hashbrowns and sausage with toast and coffee. It was fast and delicious. We originally planned to spend Sunday on the strip but stayed downtown. We played slots and I was pulling some good wins out of various machines cashing out when my balance was above $150. At the Golden Gate they have a 2 seat big slot that you get to "throw the dice" during the bonus round. During my bonus round I made 32 passes before crapping out. I cashed $340. My wife wasn't doing too well. She opted to just watch me play for a while. We made it to Binions to get our picture taken with the million dollars. We do this every trip and on some trips multiple times. On to The Fremont where I saw a slot I wanted to play but it was full. The Beverly Hillbillies. I'm a sucker for those loud lit-up machines with different types of bonus rounds. We walked around some more when wifey saw a slot she liked. She prefers the 3 reel red/white/blue type. I drank a couple heinekens sitting next to her. I glanced over and noticed an open seat at The Beverly Hillbillies machine and took it. I slipped in $100 and was betting $3 a spin. I was doing okay staying a head and wife came over, she lost $20 and was done again. I bumped my bet to max $5 per spin. 3 spins later I hit the bonus. The road to riches I think its called. I got like 4 spins and they were high numbers gaining good amounts. I told my wife I needed a 3 to land on the progressive and I got a 4. Silly me. The machine said "Congratulations you have reached the end of the road" I won the progressive. Wifey was whooping it up and I was doing the fist pump. My first hand pay.

We make our way to The Plaza, Main Street Station and the California. We got hungry and Pasta Pirate was right there. I had the pasta plate of the day, a chicken catchatori thing. It was great. Wifey had pasta alfreado. Neither of us had the glass of wine that comes with dinner. We will go back there to eat.
Off to Mermaids we go. There is a slot in there that wifey always plays. A nickle machine that she seems to do okay on. She has never lost money on it but then again has never really won more that about $40. After a couple hours in Mermaids I was again feeling no pain. An unsucessful attempt to eat a chili dog resulted in a hugh brown chili stain running down my new pearl colored linin shirt with the red design across the chest. I left wifey there and stumbled back to the room to change. Moseying back to Mermaids I found my wife still seated at the same machine. Funny I don't recall Mermaids or La Bayou ever closing before but they do. After closing we headed back to The D for a well deserved rest.

    Monday May 6th

Waking up and getting ready for the day we decided to go to the strip. We caught the SDX and hopped off at Belagio. I found The Green Machine against the far wall by the restaurants and quickly lost $100. After playing a few more machines we caught the bus to Excalibur. We played there, wandered over to the Luxor then the Tropicana. Back to Excalibur for the dinner buffet. Good selection, the place looked clean. I had 3 plates of different stuff but always had a slice of prime rib on each plate. Something wonderful about a new york steak with a side of prime rib. Yummy.
Back to the casino and watch wifey play for a while. Turning dowm multiple offers for cocktails I selected bottled water each time. I was stuffed from dinner. I just needed to moisten my mouth and keep cool.
We headed up to the showroom to watch The Australian Bee Gee's show. I got 2 comped tickets from MyVegas. The seats were stage right and all the way in the rear. The seats themselves were on a tall pedestel. My wife has back problems and sitting on these seats is not an option. The nice young lady seating us said she had a seat with better back support for us. Center stage, 2nd row, 1st 2 seats. There was no table between us and the stage. Terrific show. They do sound like the Bee Gee's, alot like the Bee Gee's. They played and sang stuff from the begining to the end of the Brothers Gibb career. Everyone on thier feet dancing. I don't dance too well but I did move a little. After the show the band met everyone and took pictures while selling CD's and stuff. I bought a CD and the pre show picture of my wife and I. Took a picture of the band. They are good guys and I think truely honored to be the best Bee Gee's tribute band in the world. Anyone going to Las Vegas should go to this show.
We bused back to Fremont Street and took a quick break in the room to freshen up. We wonder hither and yon thru various casinos until we windup back in Mermaids. Wifey at the same machine and I at the one next to her. I lost $40 and she won $40. No chili dogs tonight I go for whiskey with ginger ale. A few of those later we have closed down Mermaids again. Walk back to The D and up to the room.

    Tuesday May 7th.
We took our time getting ready today. We packed our stuff and had everything ready to leave. Left the room close to 3:00 pm. Over to Four Queens for chow. Both of us had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravey and green beans. Magnolia's has the best chicken fried steak. I have it everytime. We went in to Mermaid's again as the wifey was on a mission to beat that damn slot machine. I sat next to her and watched. At 6:00 pm I had to remind her that Bell Trans was picking us up at 7:30 pm and we still had to check out of the hotel. She nodded and mumbled something about staying until 6:30 pm. Finally she yelped I won. She hit the jackpot, all $125 of it. But counting the $80 she was up on that machine I guess she did okay.

Walked back to The D to check out. Only one elevator working and a 20 person line wanting to get to there rooms with thier luggage after checking in. I gave my wife the evil eye for taking too long at Mermaids. We finally got to our room, grabbed our bags and checked out. Bell Trans was on time. We had a 9:55 pm flight back to Portland. Delayed 10 minutes but it wasn't full again. We got the same seats (7 D-E-F) we had coming. A quiet smooth flight with barely a bump on landing. Retrieved our bags and caught the bus to our car. $40 parking and 50 minutes later we pulled into the garage. Our cat was happy to see us.

Thanks for the Trip Report. Looked like you both had a great time. I miss being in Vegas, hope I can go soon.

Didn't know Mermaids and Labayou eventually close up for the night. About what time is that?

Your first photo has incorrect image tags, you need to remove the slash from the first tag. The slash goes only in the tag after the URL. BTW, this first pic is of the wife's win on her slot and not your handpay anyways.

The second image you used the photobucket facebook image tag for your face book page, if you have one.

Great TR none the less, and thanks for the info on chicken fried steak at Magnolias. I'm a freak for the stuff, and if you can cut it with a spoon........then I've really hit the jackpot! :nworthy:

It was great meeting you two too. Wish we had not been so tired and boring for our first night. How pathetic is it that we were in bed by 10:30 at night? Anyway we made up for it by being at the long bar by 8:45am to watch our Pens play. By noon when we had to check out and move on were we well on our way to sporting a serious buzz before you were even up. If we ever meet up again we will need to be better sync our schedules. LOL

    Congrats on the hand pay.
