wife and I have stayed downtown and on the strip many times and enjoy both.

my wife has passed away and I am considering returning soon and trying the strip for a change but downtown is such a good value.

I have always thought of trying hooters due to the great pool area and being right at the end of the monorail line.

the airport wax bus stops very close and it is also a great street to visit the orleans and pinball hall of fame and the wax is also right there to get to fremont.

my only concern is that the rooms are clean and bed is comfortable.

I know I could spend a bit more and stay at mgm etc but I like to visit more often and keep the room cost down if possible.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It is good to see you wanting to get back out to Vegas to enjoy something you love.

Are you partial about that part of the strip? If you are taking a solo trip, maybe something like Harrah's or Bally's to be more central where there will be a lot more action and I am sure a similar room rate none the less. Pool area's both fairly bland but Bally's seems to be a nice pool area for all intents and purposes. You can also cross through Paris and be right at the SDX bus stop to get downtown fairly quick.

If I had to pick between those two strictly, I would likely just choose the downtown trip and do something like Golden Nugget which still offers very competitive weekday rates compared to the strip - considering how nice the property/pool is and NO resort fee.

I hope you enjoy your trip, and I hope all goes well

The only negative I have on Hooter's is that even the short walk across the street to MGM can be a bit sketchy late at night on your own. I enjoyed staying there and would do so again though.

I've stayed both DT and at Hooters. If you've never tried Hooters, I'd recommend doing so. The pool complex is nice --- big and open. The drink service/prices/wings are good. And it's close enough to action that you can walk anywhere you need to go. Including the monorail if that floats your boat.

Just be aware --- there is a resort fee.

The thing about Hooters is the location. You are a quick walk to MGM or Trop. Hooters also has superb video poker, if that's your thing. Don't pay attention to VPFree -- there's more full pay there than is listed on the site. Most of the machines that aren't bartops are full pay. The bartops are a respectable (but not great) 8-5.

Hooters absolutely sucks for blackjack -- like worse than any strip property. You get better rules across the street at MGM, even at the $10 game.

Cocktail service when playing games at Hooters is among the best in town for timeliness. Very fast. And if you aren't playing, $1.50 longnecks at the bars.

we have stayed at ip,bally`s flamingo many times and yes the location is really good.

last few trips we stayed downtown at el cortez, plaza, the d etc.

I was thinking being alone this time doing the strip may change it out a bit and maybe I will have a bit better time.

one nice thing about hooter`s is you can stop by and enjoy their pool even if you don`t stay there.

we have stayed at riviera and even there would be ok as far as a nice pool and kind of a nice walk to centre strip if the weather is nice.

Nothing against Hooters, but I wonder if you could get a room at the Tropicana for a similar price. I believe that the rooms were renovated a year or two ago.

    Similar location.

I stayed at hooters and enjoyed it.

Dont expect the wynn and you will be fine.

Its a solid location for the price.

Or what i have done in the past is a couple days at hooters and a couple downtown.

I enjoy downtown, as it is a nice reprieve from all the mid strip construction. My next trip is going to be split between down town and The Orleans (always heard nice things about The Orleans). Trying to decide between the GN or The Plaza downtown.

What is the price to get into the pool if you're not staying at that hotel?

A couple friends of mine stay at the Orleans regularly when they head to Vegas, and they can't speak highly enough of it.

Price is always good, there are a number of food options and on the whole it's just great value for money.

I'm a downtown convert myself, having gradually migrated from the strip over the years. Since 2008 I've stayed at the Palazzo every year, and this will be the first time I haven't at all.

I stayed at the Nugget for 3 nights of my 2 1/2 weeks in 2011 and for 14/18 nights last year. and for 2 weeks of my 2 1/2 last year and this year I'm staying for the whole trip.

I've only ever stayed at the Nugget so am biased, but I think the place is great and don't think I would stay anywhere else.

If you are referring to hooters they allow anybody to use the pool and same at riviera.

I can`t say enough good things about orleans pool area also.
