So, just curious about my recent take on the subject... are there just fewer higher stakes women blackjack players then men?

I've recently started playing higher limits, as I now have the bankroll to do so, and I feel like people are always surprised when I sit down at the table. Part of it also might be that I look young, I'm 30, but I still get carded all the time.

I have also had men come up to me after i was done playing to tell me how impressive it was. I mean, I doubt they would go up to another guy and say the same thing??? Probably just being hit on in that case though.

The thing that bothers me, is that people seemed surprised when I'm willing to play correctly. It's as if they think I shouldn't be playing with the "big boys" Yeah, I have 5k on the hand, but it's better to win 10k, and the odds are there, so why wouldn't I double down??

Just curious if I'm being too sensitive, or if others see it too??

I've actually seen a higher percentage of women players I've played with play 'correctly' than men, over time.

I'm not talking about new players or nickel players. I'm talking about folks who have clearly played the game before. It just seems on average more women stick to (or for that matter, know) basic strategy.

With that said, it's more common that men sit down at the table than women, I think, so the actual numbers of solid players are probably close. But when the women have sat down, they've tended to be better players.

I am still waiting to see someone "play correctly." I have never seen anyone play perfect basic strategy for a H17 game. Not ever.

Ok, sorry, let me rephrase that... I don't play emotionally, I play by the best odds I can, without being wrapped up in the amount of chips that are sitting in front of me. :)

I think you can take 'play correctly' as someone who makes the correct basic strategy decision almost all the time. Have I personally made a mistake when it comes to whether to hit or double a soft 15 against a dealer 4? Probably. But I've seen a lot of people play in the high 90s as far as percentage of correct decisions.

Don't know much about BJ but i've played with quite a few large women Bacc players. Doesn't really seem odd to me.

That's nice to hear! I've seen quite a few women in the high limit Bacc area, but fewer playing BJ. Sometimes I just horse around in the pit and when I end up betting big, if I'm on a hot shoe, then I get weird looks. Maybe it's just because I'm betting big...

If you're on the floor and betting purple or higher, people are going to watch. I've seen it a few times. They're just curious about the bets. Happens a lot a craps, and it's almost always males in that case making the big bets, but they get a lot of casual attention. Just people joining in the thrill.

So I am curious AceTen about your perspective because I have always thought the percentage of female Blackjack players was always lower at any level of play. I don't know what the actual stats are but general population is about even right, 50/50 approximately. In my experience of playing $15-25 in casinos all over the US and several in Europe and Korea, there is no way I personally have seen even close to 50/50 at Blackjack tables no matter what the minimums were.

So are you saying there are even less females playing at high level tables?

Sadly, and I am ready for some feedback on this, I suspect you are getting some Male machismo BS, about the correct play. I have heard such nonsense from other male players after the lone female player has left the table.

I wish I were a female BJ player as I've never seen one backed off of a game ...

I honestly don't think I have ever played with a female player at a higher limit table. A female may be sitting there accompanying her husband / boyfriend, or playing a spot with their chips, but I have not seen a solo female playing by themselves at the table. So, in answer to your question, I think the % of female high stakes BJ players is very, very low. Now, this may happen out in the pit and I don't see it, it is just that I do not see it in the high limit salons where they deal BJ.

Yeah happens all the time around the Bacc table at the Beau since they are out on the floor. They see my stack of pumpkins and us all yelling and screaming and there will always end up with a crowd around watching us on a good shoe. I don't even notice it until after I quit and everybody is there when I turn around and I'm like where did all the people come from? Lol

Do you ever play at Aria? I've played with an older Asian lady and either her daughter or granddaughter both in HL and out on the floor where each of them were stacking the yellow from 2-10 on their DD game. The older lady was pretty sly out on the main floor as she used a full sheet of paper folded in half making like a tent that had the BS plays on it that she used to sort of cover up her chips. She took 'em for about 60k that session after she uncovered her chips and colored up, paid off their markers etc.

They also must notify security there when someone is playing with a lot of color out on the main floor as I've noticed a lot of security guys passing thru and even standing behind the table for periods of time when I've played there.

I've only played there twice, once with Shifter when we did a classic 1 hour hit and run. I didn't play out on the floor either time, and I guess there were not there the 2x I was there.

Probably in the last 100 pit tables I've sat down at ($25 tables), I've played with other women maybe 25% of the time. For anything $100+, I'd say it's more like 1% of the time that I'll sit with another woman who is actually playing. I run in to lots of gf's or wives sitting with their significant others, but not actually playing.

I've been lucky to not have to deal with a lot of jerks at the tables. I find that most men have been respectful of me, and my play. No idea if they talk crap after I leave though.
