it has been on previously. I think this was the pilot for a reality series. Saw a few episodes, don't know if it got cancelled, or what...............

yeah I figured that it was going to be some reality series, but this was like a 2 hour documentary that was not what I expected it to be. For Bravo, this was "sad" programming

It started out as a documentary about the house and their immense wealth, but the director/producer got "lucky" when everything went south in 2007 and they got an even more compelling story of watching the mighty fall.
David Siegel was very upset over early screenings of the movie, going so far as to threaten to sue, claiming it was an "inaccurate portrayal" especially in how the movie was marketed, saying it damaged his reputation.
He didn't know or plan the financial collapse and the release and agreement they signed allowed the crew, who followed them for almost three years, to continue production, otherwise you know darn well they'd have never agreed to it.

It debuted at the Sundance Film Festival about a year or so ago, won a few awards as well

Yes I saw it as well and all I can say is "rich people problems" ! :rolleyes2:

It should be mandatory viewing for all those people who want to buy a timeshare.

It looks like Bravo is just airing the documentary at this point. I was worried because the wife was on Watch What Happens Live but I don't see anything about them having a show.

I watched it last night and had to laugh. My BF came home from work and watched the end of it with me. I gave him a synopsis of what it was about. He had no idea where the building was in Vegas. We spent several weeks at Ballys pool daily. He is Mr Vegas, and has been out close to 100 times in his life. I explained where the building was, and told him, "You know the one we stared at while at the pool for 3 weeks?" He never knew it was there. I didn't know it was a time share, just thought it was part of PHo. Now I know why those time share people were so aggressive in the hotels. They were under so much pressure. They are almost worse than the porn flippers!

The show was strange - what's up with the herd of small dogs & letting them poop everywhere?

I caught it on Netflix and made my hubby watch it later..LOL Didn't the wife go on to be a cast-member of one of the Housewives shows? She looked familiar but then again, they all seem to look like Barbies.

Why anyone would buy a new timeshare in Vegas of all palces is beyond me.

At the most, I might rent one while there (and then probably not) or buy one from an owener. But a new one?? In Vegas, where the hotels are amazing and cheap to begin with? Makes no sense.

I saw it and though that he was such a jerk, saying he is building Versailles because he could. Then it got interesting when things started to go south. I didn't have any idea what the show was about when I started watching it. Very interesting. I also didn't understand why the dogs were able to poop all over the house. I understand how it's hard to change your habits when you go from being wealthy to not so much but I can't feel sorry for them. There are things that can be done to reduce spending but neither of them seemed truly interested in trying.

Haven't seen it. Is this the same Siegel who owns all extended living complexes in Vegas? Similar to Marriott Extended Stay, but much lower class.

I got stuck doing a timeshare presentation with my sister (it was her fault!) and Vegas is being pushed as a location at least in the Hilton universe because of it's lower buy in threshold. With Hilton you don't have to stay where you buy but can use the points to stay almost anywhere. But with Vegas being so saturated with timeshares, I don't know how hard it would be to get out if you wanted.

    The Queen of Versailles Movie

Has anyone seen this movie? I DVR'd it and watched it recently. I had no idea it was connected with Vegas. I was fascinated. I had no clue about these Westgate Timeshares. The backstory of this family is very odd, but whose isn't. Anyone know what happened to these places? I only stay and play at Mlife properties to maximize my comps, so don't venture out much.

The more I see "reality" TV, (that I'm sure is at least partly staged) the more I feel my family is more sane than I thought.

The LV place in the movie that used to be Westgate is now called Elara.
