Need reasonable hotel near The Venetian...also transport from airport question

I have friends who have a night at The Venetian paid for but want to stay an extra night at a nearby hotel. They haven't been to Vegas and are on a strict budget, so I'm trying to help with their selection. What hotel would you suggest on that end of the strip that they could get to the Venetian "easily" from.
Also, if they cab it from the airport what fare could they expect? When going to that end of the strip, is going through the tunnel acceptable?

 

How strict is their budget?? $50, $75 a night? Keep in mind that most anything center or south strip is not cheap on weekends except maybe the Quad and the rooms are really bad. You can stay slightly off strip ( a few blocks) at a Days inn or something similar. As far as the tunnel it all depends.. Remember that cabs charge by the mile (for the most part) so more miles means higher fare. If you don't want to be "tunneled" then request it before you even get in the cab.

 

Also stay at the lower end hotel the first night and go for an early check in the next day.

 

I would priceline something in their budget range. Weekends are tough on the strip, but you can still get a great deal on priceline using betterbidding.com.

If they didn't want to go that route, Harrahs and Ballys are probably best bets.

 

Casino Royale is right next door. It will be much cheaper than Venetian. If that’s no good, Harrah’s, Treasure Island and Mirage are all nearby. None will be “dirt cheap”. But they all should be significantly cheaper than Venetian.

Don’t take the tunnel from Venetian to the airport. A cab ride to the airport should cost mid to high teens, I believe (plus tip). Add another $5-10 for the tunnel.

 

1. Casino Royale would be the first hotel that I would check on. Harrah's would be my next one.

2. You could take a shuttle from the airport, but two shuttle tickets might cost the same as a cab,
and a cab would be cheaper.

 

Taking the tunnel to Venetian is going to run you $26 to $28 before tip, assuming you're coming from the airport (this includes the fee to get out of the airport.)

 

LVH is on the monorail. You could go that route.

 

I've had bed bugs at Casino Royale and I won't stay there any longer. I wouldn't trust the Quad for the same reason.

I forgot about Flamingo though. TI and Mirage will be more expensive than Ballys, Harrahs, and Flamingo. Any of those should be a good bargain (Harrahs being the closest).

 

Thanks all. I would think they would be OK with $50 or so. I may help them with Priceline or Hotwire. It's for a Sunday night so things should be cheaper. Their paid for room is on Monday. It's for the What Not To Wear Finale that one of them will be in. I was going to suggest a shuttle but figured that would add up to the same as a cab for them. I know I've been long hauled going to NYNY but wasn't sure if it might be worthwhile going to the North strip. I'll tell them "No Tunnel".

 

Harrah's is right next door, hardly a walk and you should be able to get accommodations for that budget.

 

Might also want to consider the Tuscany Hotel and Casino. It is a bout 1.5 blocks from Bally. There prices are low but it is suppose to be a nice place.

 

I'd vote Harrahs. It's usually cheap, fairly nice and clean, as close to Venetian that you can get for walking with bags. I've had a room there that was literally 40 feet from the Venetian's room window.

 

You still might want to suggest a shuttle since they are new to Vegas and they are trying to save money.

A novice announcing "No Tunnel" when entering a cab might result in a roundabout surface street route that eats up extra money as well, and they won't even know they've been taken.

They can buy a Round Trip shuttle ticket from Showtime at the airport for $13 or so per person. $1 tip per person tip each way = $30 total for the both of them. My guess is that a cab to/from Harrah's or nearby will average at least $20 each way with a modest tip, or $40 total.

 

TI across the street. Casino royale will suck if they are just coming from venetian. ti will be fine and its a decent price usually.

 

Weekend or weekday?

You couldn't get TI even on a weekday for the $50 price mentioned. In fact, with most places charging resort fees it will be hard to find anything for $50.

 

They need a room for Sunday night and the paid for room is on Monday. Just found out it's actually at the Palazzo. So, they will be going from the cheaper hotel to the nice one, which is good.

 

damn, the show brings them in for the finale and only puts them in a hotel for 1 night? how cheap can you get ...

 

TI is having a good promotion for TI club members right now, some nights as low as $50 with resort fee optional. Try calling to see if you can get in on the special. I've never tried to sign up for a player's club card over the phone but it's worth a shot.

 

The show people might be able to get them a decent rate for the next night if they have lots of rooms booked. They should call and ask. Group rates are sometimes GREAT, other times they are higher than booking it yourself.

Another reason to find a way to use ONE hotel is this:

If their event is Monday night, and they need their room - keep in mind it is possible they will not get into that room until late afternoon. All depends on room availability.

It would be a shame to blow part of day changing hotels on their first trip to Vegas.
