So is that whole corner of the Strip closed?

I don't think so. I won't be there for another 9 days, however, if you look at the live cam of the Linq, it looks like people who are crossing the bridge over to the Flamingo side, are also walking away from Flamingo towards Bally's. So apparently the escalator from Bill's to Bally's is still intact.

The usual bums in costumes are still there and the escalators still run and I believe the show ticket people have move elsewhere.

Surprised they didn't tear it down

Given that is looks like they've torn every non weight bearing structure out of that place I'm a little surprised they didn't tear the whole thing down and start from scratch. With the plans for a roof top pool and club they are going to have to beef up the structure to handle the weight why not start with a new structure to being with.

Does it look like they're leaving the parking garage in place? I wonder if the parking garage as part of the building means the structure is already strong enough for a rooftop pool?

Looks pretty bare. All the big operators who are cash strapped / loaded with billions in debt are just refurbishing / renovating instead of imploding.

On this last trip a few weeks ago (stayed at the Flamingo) it seemed that they were about 50/50 with the UP escalators most likely to be not running.

The winner of the Not Running Award this last trip goes to Bally's, where the IN moving walkway was dead the whole trip and the escalators up going in were also dead the whole trip, with everybody walking around across the drive to get into the casino.

Was just there last weekend and Ballys going in to the casino was open. But going out from the casino was closed both times I walked through. Its such a pain to walk through the valet area and around everything. But I did get a nice look at all the bums that like to hang out in their "garden"

Two weeks ago the sidwalk next to the place was still accessible on the Flamingo side, and I got a look at the demo from the rear of the building.

The latest Vegaschatter pics, and Gansevoort renderings give a better idea of what is in scope with the renovation. Here's my predictions of what they are doing.

    - Major construction on the join will be re-inforcement of structure to support new pool / dayclub deck. Thats my guess why the south wall came down facing Flamingo on lower section. It looks like the have gutted out the rear parking structure to get building materials and run construction.

    - Hotel rooms and casino physical layout will not change much, but rather get a complete redecorating. In the room renderings the physical layouts did not change at all from existing Bills floorplan.

    - Construction on second floor to support new club and windows in rendering to take advantage of view on Flamingo.

    - Exterior to get new coat of paint and awnings. It looks like they will replace the lower windows and strip off the old lighting fixtures from Bills.

I think its very do-able getting the place open in Dec, minus the pool deck. You know CET will want to get the club open pre NYE to capitalize on that holiday. I think they see the $$$ that this place can generate as a Botique style hotel. I fully expect the casino interior will look like a version of the Cosmo LV casino minus the chandelier bars. I am guessing that a big chunk of the 184 million in cash they are spending is structural re-inforcement and not so much in quality of materials. I also bet that some kind of bonus for delivery time will be paid to GC.

CET seems to me to be pushing to have the whole renovated block from Quad to Gavensvoort open by mid 2014.

What looks really interesting, according to Vegas Chatter, is apparently the testing out the Vortex, the light show thingamajig. Can't wait to see it next week. I'm actually glad Bill's is doing an upscale Botique, the corner from Bill's to the overpass to Bally's needs some new blood. It might get rid of the bums and panhandlers that frequent that location.
