I tried searching the forums but the last good thread I found was from 2008 which seems outdated. I was wondering what you guys think of walking to the hard rock from the strip? I was thinking of going this trip and have never been before.

    - Is the walk physically feasible or too long, especially if its hot?
    - is the area safe during the day? Are there a lot of other tourists walking around
    - if I did decide to take a cab, what is the best hotel to catch one from for the cheapest fare

For comparison, last trip I did do some walking around up to The STRAT from the old Sahara and even there on that short walk it felt desolate and not the best area. There also seemed to be a lot of vagrants and people soliciting for money? It wasn't the most comfortable experience lol. Would a walk to Hard Rock be similar?

We were there in July, and must have walked past it at some point (at night) because I have a picture of the sign. LOL So I'm guessing it wasn't a horrible walk. We did most of the walking at night as it was soo horribly hot when we were there that my flip flops were melting on the sidewalk. LOL

It is an easy 15 minute walk from Planet Hollywood. There are usually plenty of people making that trek day or night. There are a couple of vacant lots where I get the impression drug deals go down, but not as many unsavoury types as downtown or further east of HRH.

Yes ... as "MrSandsman" said, if you take Harmon Ave., on the south side of Planet Hollywood, the Hard Rock is at most a mile walk to the east, at the corner of Harmon & Paradise. Should not be a problem at all.

Several years ago, when the Luxor first opened, we walked from the Luxor to the Hard Rock, and then up Paradise to the Riviera, and back down the Strip to the Luxor. Then we took a nap .... :faint:

I have done it, only because we were staying across the street at some condo type property for a meeting. If you are also planing to go up the strip to say Paris, Harrahs, Mirage etc, it could be a long walk.

By the way, you can not casually walk past it. Check out where it is on the map

It depends on where you are walking from? If you went down Tropicana you could stop along the way at the other casinos and rest and cool off if it was hot. And then you could walk from Terribles and it would be a short walk. As other posters have stated the people along the way tend to be a better strata then DT and the Stratosphere area.

If you walked down Trop to Paradise you would get to the Hard Rock before Terrible's... Terrible's is a block further down on Flamingo

I think it also depends on your situation. I wouldn't do it. I'm also 53 and a single female. I wouldn't do it as a single traveler, and I definately wouldn't do it on a hot day.

I walked from Bally's to Hard Rock last year in May. Wasn't hard, just wear comfortable shoes and you're set.

It's not a difficult walk at all if you are normally a walker in Vegas. In terms of doing it in the daytime, I think you would need to be normally scared of your own shadow to think it is somehow dangerous.

We did it our very first trip to Vegas b/c it 'didn't seem that far away'. It was in August so it was very hot, I wouldn't suggest it then but it probably wouldn't be bad in cooler weather. I don't remember feeling unsafe at all either but that was also over 10 years ago.

IMO, while it is possible, I would not recommend doing it, from say today's date (May 1st) until maybe October, due to the heat.
As for evenings, I have been in Las Vegas and it be near 90oF at about 10pm before.

It wasn't one of the places I would of gone to, as it seemed a bit out of the way, but when I went last year a guy I know asked if I could get him a Hard Rock T shirt as he collects them.

I looked in the one on the Strip but decided to have a walk down to the Hard Rock Hotel, as it's been mentioned it isn't too far a walk really, but I did this in October so it was cooler, in fact there was a dark cloud moving over as I walked down Harmon Ave and if it had of rained I would of got soaked as you are pretty much in no mans land halfway down.

But the rain did hold out and I liked looking round at the music memrobilia that they have in there.

I know I'm probably the exception, but I used to walk from mid-Strip to downtown and back in August. It's a dry heat.

Good news is the OP will be there next week.

Two years ago I did a Stage Door to Ellis Island to Hoffbrau Haus crawl with some friends. We picked up a cab at Hard Rock after.
