MyVegas Can we use unused food comp to tip waitress?

If we have a 50 comp and only use 40, can we tip the waitress the other ten? Or do we have to tip with our own cash regardless of whether we have remaining comp money?

 

Comps can never be used for tips.

I have no problem tipping. The only reason I ask is that the $50 delights comp would be almost impossible to use fully with only two people eating a reasonable amount of food.

My problem was not how to avoid tipping. It was how the hell am I going to spend $50 without ordering a bunch of food I dont need.

I guess I needed to clarify my intentions. People really do assume the worst on here.

I had comps once in the Orleans for the Prime Rib Loft and couldn't spend it. Two tables over was a family with a young man about 12 who was less than enthused about eating this evening. I too had comp $'s left and requested the hot apple pie with ice cream be sent over with my compliments for dessert. It was fun to watch and I didn't have to deal with the parents angst for sending the double chocolate dessert which would have sent him into the next level......maybe.....having done this (sharing) I have never had a problem sharing ($'s) left-overs. Just a thought. And yes, tip your waitress generously.....

 

That's an awesome way to use a comp.

 

I just got back from Vegas and had a $50 comp for Nine Fine Irishman. I knew there was no way I was going to be able to drink $50 by myself (I sure as hell was gonna try though). I overheard a gentleman tell the bar tender he was a retired firefighter and celebrating his 60th birthday. I sent him over a shot of Jameson and it may have been the greatest gift he ever received by his reaction. The bar tender also did me a favor and rang in my last Guiness still at the happy hour price even though I was just half way done with my current one. I made sure to tip him very well. You can find a way to use the entire comp with a random act of kindness. That can go a long way.

 

If you have a fridge, couldn't you take a dessert to go? Or splurge on something like bottled water? Beer?

A $50 comp is def a lot for that place if it's just 2 of you.

 

I think it's a great idea, great way to use your comps to spread joy to others. Though as a single man, I'm pretty sure if I told my server "hey, I'd like to send that little boy some ice cream", I'd have several of LVPD's finest escorting me out of the building. Guess it's all in the way you say it

 

At some properties, the unused portion goes back into your account. I would double check before deciding.

 

Unless I'm mistaken, that's regular comps you are thinking of. Myvegas food/bev comps are a one-time use thing. Luckily I can hold my liquor, or I'd have wasted a lot of that $75 Sporting House (NYNY) credit I redeemed last time I was in town.

 

People really need to stop using the word "comp" in reference to myvegas rewards. The regular non MyVegas board members keep answering the questions as if we are talking about casino comps. Also, wtf is up with scolding him for not tipping enough? $10 on a $40 tab isn't huge but its well above 20%. I don't think it's right to criticize for tipping a waiter if its above the old standard 15%.

I wonder if you couldn't order a sandwich or dessert, and have it 'to go' in a clamshell. You can eat it later, or give it to a street person.

if you have extra comps that are going to go to waste, just buy something for someone else. I'm surprised this isn't common sense.

 

I like the idea of using your extra comps for others. Anyone familiar with the idea of "Suspended coffee"? Could it be possible to "suspend" an app, drink, dessert for someone else? To use at the discretion of the server.

It isn't because generally other people suck. So why would I buy something for them? You have to be in the right frame of mind to think to do something nice like that.
