We are normally MLife strip dwellers and while we are still happy with our offers we are looking to expand our horizons and check out other casinos in the Vegas area. We stayed at M Resort last year and enjoyed it, but the slots killed us leaving a bad taste :nono: I know it's win some, lose lots!

A bit about us: budget $800-1000/day for slots, and it can mean a lot or a little pending on playthrough. Normally we just do quick coffee shop meals, unless it's a special occasion then we will fine dine. I contacted a host at South Point and they are willing to give us "casino rate" and check our play at the end of the stay, which is fine by us, as our play will tell the tale anyhow.

I have scanned back through some posts didn't quite see what I was looking for, here goes:

Does anyone know if "casino rate" can be beat by booking online like some of the other casinos? Should I even worry as our budget should take care of the room anyhow? Will we receive offers in future or do they target locals?

Before we make up our mind we want to hear from others that have established play at South Point to see if it's really worth it :) Thanks in advance :nworthy:

Hi South Point is my favorite casino. They actually give me better comps than anywhere else. #1 SP is like SW airlines. You can't find a discount or better price than through them. They do have occasional sales ( not much off the super saver rate on their website). First time there me and the dh played on my card for 3 days...our budget is $600 day for the 2 of us. Their machines paid back so well that we ran up quite a bit of comps. We paid 1 night (deposit) stayed for 2 nights upgraded to a suite for $50 night extra....in the end they took the second booked night and the upgrade fees off of our bill.

When we went back last year we had 2 nights in a comped suite from the 2011 play plus free play and resort credit. Last year me, hubby, MIL all played off of my card. All with a $300 pp budget, once again their machines OBVIOUSLY were hot....because 3 days X $300 X 3 people is $2700 and according to my statement from them we ran $20K through the machines. This trip we have 3 nights in a nice suite, $50 free play, $50 in resort credit. I forgot their ratio of points earned to $ comps.

I do believe they target locals after our first trip there it took about 6 months to start getting mailers from them. Since my husband did not play off of his card last year his mailers stopped coming. We only get one in my name now. We only go once a year but I guess we spent enough for the mailers to still come to me. With your budget you should get mailers but don't be surprised if it take quite awhile before you get the first one. We are in Mass and the first year I thought that is why we didn't receive anything from them...it just took a long time to get that first one. Their mailers usually cover 3 months at a time, the next one starts May 1 and I haven't gotten it yet...often it comes in after the time frame for it has started.

I think our "profile" is similar to yours.

For our first stay at South Point, there was a great variety of machines, we actually felt like we had a chance at winning (mostly VP) and you earn 3pts per dollar...much much better than the strip.

To top that off, they comped our entire bill including the room, all food and they even comped my haircut at their salon. I can't recall exactly our wagering amount for that trip but, a back of the envelope calculation probably is close to about $30k through. Just as you said, we checked-in with the host near the end of the trip and the comp process was relatively painless.

They have a great spa and the deli next to the sportsbook is rated as one of the best in town. In addition, all food choices are excellent. They include a Steak and Shake, a mexican and steak restaurant on the second floor that includes (or use to)$2.00 for any marquarita drink including premium brands. They have an Italian restaurant on the first floor and an excellent seafood place. That is in addition to the buffet which I would rate as a bit better than average.

They also have a movie theater on site. We will be staying there in Sept and are looking forward to the trip. We used to stay at the M (great rooms) but, they tightened their slots and they have a new company that runs the sportsbook...both negatives...plus the buffet which was once very good is now very overrated and overpriced considering the offerings and location.

I would suggest you get a car because you won't be able to go anywhere by walking. They do offer a shuttle to mid-strip and will pick you up at the airport if you call ahead.

All in all, this is our favorite off-strip casino with plenty to offer to keep you on the property for multiple days. Have fun on your trip.

Only problem with the South Point is that it is kinda isolated. Having wheels would be good as ya can go to other houses if you so desire.

My SIL and husband were there just last weekend for their bowling sweeps. They took a cabride to downtown and it was around $40 EACH WAY! So, yeah, you need a car to go anywhere else..

We've stayed there a couple of times but it has been around 5 years since we were there, but I seem to remember the deli had good food and the machines were paying ok. Pool if I remember correctly is kind of smallish, but we enjoyed it one day.

All in all, I think you will like it if either you have a car or are ok staying there your whole trip.

Thank you all, you've been most helpful. We won't need a car we are planning 2 nights at SP then moving to our home on the strip for the last 3 nights; might do the outlet mall while there but that is about it. It's time for us to spread our wings we are getting a bit bored with the strip for 5 days the past few trips.

We always do SP last...we rent a car and the drive back to the Car Rental is super easy from there...with little/no traffic. 2/3 nights is good at SP more than that and my dh would go batty. I just love being somewhere that the machines pay, food is reasonable, rooms are nice and they actually comp me well. That is something that I can't get on the strip. Being in our 50s we actually like someplace a little more laid back compared to the nonstop noise of the strip.

    SP in September

We enjoyed our last stay at SouthPoint. We stayed 4 nights and then moved to the strip for 3 nights. We were there over Labor Day weekend and lots of families with kids. My wife is a VP player and I drift between VP and slots. We actually left SP with more money than we came with - figure that out! We moved to the Flamingo and expected to "donate" there. The first day my wife hit a Royal in the new Margaritaville gambling area. That was a pleasant surprise. All in all SP is a nice place with a huge gambling floor. We had read on this site from someone to bring masking tape to seal the curtain or light coming in would keep you awake. That was a great suggestion and very true. There are a variety of places to eat and the food prices are reasonable for Vegas. Haven't got many offers by e-mail from SP and can't figure that out? The resort fee seems to be a given now - more casino's have it than don't. Just have to bite the bullet on that I guess.

We just returned from our trip to Vegas, I mean South Point, since we never leave once we get there. For the record, of the past 5 trips to Vegas, we've only stayed at the South Point, the last four staying in a comped 1br suite. We recieve mailers for 2 free nights in a 1br suite every 3 months, 2 nights each month, along with $50 in free play, $50 in resort credit, and 25% off spa services.

This past trip, I took $3100, my wife took $3000. She's not a huge gambler, so we play on my card. She played about 3 hours total, I played about 16 hours. We put $25000 through the machines ($1 - 1 point). The first night I played about 2 hours.

At the end of day 2, I was up $1400. At the end of day 3, I was down $35 (inlcuding tips), my wife was up $100.

We didn't play at all on day 4, the day we checked out.

We charged all of our food to the room, which was room service. The last night, I called down to talk to the host that usually takes care of us, and found out she was no longer with the property, but the host on duty comped all the food off, in fact he asked me what I thought the total was instead of looking it up.

One thing I like about SP, vs Mlife, is that they don't use your points first. Thier system is 1000 points = $3 cash back/food/shopping/whatever and they have always comped our stays without touching the points.

As Azbob stated, their deli is top notch, they really load up the gyros with meat.

They have a free airport shuttle, which is great if your times work. Ours usually don't, so we book a towncar from Presidential for around 50 one way which is about 20 higher than a cab, but you don't have to fool with the bags, or cab line. We usually grab a cab back, yesterday, the fare was $24.

Now, if your still with me, they run a 72 hour sale every few months that beaths their casino rate price.

The slot club booth told me that they send mailers out quarterly for non locals. Last year, we recieved offers every 3 months, along with a new years eve comped invite.

When staying at SP renting a car is not necessary.

Between the shuttle, bus service, and tram someone could get just about anywhere from M Resort to Wynn.
