I'm actually thinking about moving to Vegas right now.Been retired for a few years and really sick of the Mi.winters and sick of road salt eating my vehicles alive.I am a little worried about the gambling, but hell, there's gambling everywhere now a days.

Yeah.. It's in every state. This is an awesome place to retire. I cannot imagine the snow! My parents are close to retirement and they're happy here. :)

No. Good for visiting, not for living on a full time basis. Also, long term water shortage could become a huge problem......................

    My thoughts exactly.

Though, everyone has their price. I suppose if I had some fantastic (financial) opportunity in LV, I wouldn’t pass that up.

Welcome to the board; nice to have some locals around for the inside stories!

I think that I would enjoy leaving NH after Christmas for an extended stay. Places like the El Cortez sometimes have rooms like the Vintage rooms for cheap ($11/night) and a bit higher on weekends but they do not want guests for over a week. If someone goes for say a month, is there somewhere cheap that is in a decent area, safe and clean, or, would someone have to stay a week at EC and a week somewhere else, etc til you have filled your vacation time?

we are not weird about people moving to Vegas - you asked if WE would move here, and we are giving you our answers. I could care less if someone else wants to move there.

You should definitely check out local casinos. They usually have pretty good rates.

Long term water shortage? That's kind of a paranoid response.

I've thought about it. If the right opportunity came alone, I would consider it. It would be nice to get away from the Minnesota winters.

I'm wondering how Vegas compares in terms of housing costs, crime and healthcare though?

Like all cities.. it depends. Housing prices are great right now, crime depends on where you live and healthcare is outstanding. There are a lot of doctors who have been practicing here for years. We have a really good community here.

Nope. Deserts make me miserable:peace: I can visit all sorts of places (and I love to travel), but prefer to live among rolling green hills.

We have thought about buying a vacation home there...a little condo somewhere away from the strip. We recently talked more about it, but decided if we do, it will be after we retire so we can spend a few weeks on and a few weeks off...we live in Socal, so it would be doable with a car.

So, the short answer is yes we would move there. I'm sure after the newness of being so close to what we all love wears off it would be like any other place

We have been looking at condos online. We are going to look further into it this summer while in LV. We plan on buying by next year and renting the condo out until I feel comfortable moving from my kids. I figure that will be about 10 years. I am already retired, my sig other is self employed, so we have that part worked out.

No. It's not. Long term water shortage is a very real problem without a very real solution. Will Vegas dry up and blow away? Maybe and maybe not. The casinos won't be the first to go though... which means the problem will be harder on local residents.

I looked into investing in property in Vegas and I came to the conclusion that it's a very bad idea right now.

Are you serious? You live and grew up in Vegas, and you don't know about the pending water crisis? do you know what the 20 year plan is for the water shortage? do you know that Vegas is on the short end of the stick as far as water allocation goes from the Colorado if the water levels fall? do you know that you own water manager is trying to get the water contracts re-written so Vegas can get the water allocations they need, and none of the other states involved are budging? There may not be a problem in the next 5-10 years, but there is a problem down the road, and as the above poster stated, there is no solution at the moment..................
