Becca---something I always wanted to ask and never knew who could answer my question. Sooooooooo, if I leave my car in a casino parking garage for a extended of time (i.e. 2 weeks or more) will the casino detect that my car has been there for a extended period of time? How will they know? Can anyone answer my question?

It all depends on the security of the casino. If its on the Strip.. I wouldn't. Off the strip casinos have lower security.. you might get away with it there. It just depends on each casino and the caliber of their people.

They all have security that patrols the facility.. they will verify the plates with the management and if its been there for 72 hrs and its not a registered guest of the casino.. they will tow.

Here's one for you , Becca (and, welcome, btw!): For many years, I've heard from many locals (mostly cabbies & bartenders) who say they do not gamble and that, if one lives there, you learn very quickly not to do so.
So - do you gamble, and if so, what's your favorite poison? And are you successful at it?

I've always maintained that, if I lived there, I would limit my betting to sports only.

I've been told that, since 1934 if one bet $100 on every home underdog in every MLB series, and 'martingaled' any loss until it wins (or until that series is over), one would have made a minimum of $60,000 per season, (taking one win per series).
That seems to me to be a very-tempting statistic, but one would have to live there in order to do it.

I don't gamble and most of my friends and family don't either. I worked with a guy who dealt at a downtown casino for 30 years.. from the 60s on.. and he told me that the best odds are baccarat and pai gow. Sports betting is a whole different thing. I know a lot of professional gamblers who make a living betting on sports. But they play very conservatively. If I go to the casino and I want to have a fun night I'll bring 100 to the pai gow table.. it lasts all night and I usually win.

yeah, you're right, one of those statements cannot be true. i assume by "i don't gamble" becca means "i don't gamble regularly."

i wouldn't say i don't gamble, but i was at my nearby native american gaming hall last weekend to see "the price is right live," (arguably a form of gambling since my ticket was paid for,) and didn't have the urge to wager. i don't gamble regularly, but occasionally i will, and i assume becca's or my gambling habits are not as regular as those who play bingo, spend a night playing blackjack or attempt to make a living off of predicting the outcomes of horse races or reading the rapid eye movements of a poker player.

apparently the moral of the story, becca, is to sprinkle "usually," "occasionally" or "allegedly" into your sentences so you don't get nitpicked apart.

my question has nothing to do with visiting vegas: what do you do for a living?

welcome to the discussions. say hi to "big juicy" for me.

    What's Worth Seeing?

    Becca,

I to Vegas four to six times a year with my wife or a buddy. We always stay downtown now and enjoy spending some of our time getting to know the town better. We've visited surrounding natural areas (Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon, Grand Canyon, Death Valley) and Hoover Dam. We've gone to the Mob Museum, Neon Boneyard, toured the Smith Center, Atomic Testing Museum, Clark County Museum, Harrah's Auto Collection, the outlet malls, World Market (the big furniture showroom place) and probably a few things I can't recall immediately. Also spent some time in the bars/clubs of East Fremont.

So, with that long introduction, what's left? Is Chinatown worth a visit? Mt. Charleston? Anything else you could suggest? Thanks for the help.

Not sure how many decades (age) you lived in Vegas, but what top (1-3) aspects of "small town" Vegas do you miss most (1970s or before through late 1980s), and what change(s) since the mega expansion over the past 20 + years since do you appreciate?

Do you plan on continuing to stay in the Vegas valley?

What are your favorite local place(s) do you like to take out of town guests (resturants, bars, other entertainment, local casinos)?

Every casino has security that patrol the parking lots. They will make note of vehicles that haven't moved in days during their rounds and if need be, take down the license plate and escalate it from there.

There are tell tale signs that they pick up on. After a week or so, your car will be covered with a layer of dust (it's the desert!) that is quite noticeable. Plus at times, other cars parked around you will leave and leave an "island" around yours which will make it stick out like a sore thumb.

I would not risk it. There is high probability your car will end up being towed. It is private property after all.
