I havnt played casinio poker in a while. Im heading to the local casino this week, it only offers limit, i dont mind i still enjoy it. I have only played 5-10 limit and of course there is alot of chasing. I am considering stepping up to $10-$20 but am a bit nervous.
Do you people notice much of a difference between the 5-10 game and the 10-20 game? less chasing, better players etc.? or is it pretty much the same?
    thanks.

My humble opinion is that 5-10 provides a relatively small risk to bankroll while still maintaining fun in winning some big pots, and seeing the red chips fly so to speak.
At this level it has been my experience most of the 5-10 LHE players fall into the recreational or first time player with most playing a pretty passive/weak game.....this includes relatively little bluffing and going to showdown more often than not. Big on fun but probably not so much on long term win rate. However with the right players and patience I don't see why you couldn't make a good score.

I have found 10-20 and then 15-30 LHE to be more aggressive with some more fundamentally solid players. You will definitely have some guys who are still chasing and will put a beat on you as well.

Several things I picked up from conversations with my poker friends are ..... that most seem more intimidated by more chips being in play (15-30 and higher) at the table? Not sure if its just an appearance thing with some guys sitting with racks full of chips they aren't really ever going to be in "play" or the fact that swings can get pretty heavy at some higher limits. That there will always be some guy/girl that is way to serious and will let you know what everyone "should have" done

My humble advice would be, be patient and find the weak spots at the table, be prepared for bigger swings in chips, and have fun! Good luck and let us know how it goes

Let me get this straight- You think that playing against more solid players will improve your win rate? You also think that avoiding weak players who will call down your value bets and rarely bluff is how you will make money? Welcome to opposite land! Here's a tip for you- if you are playing in a game where you don't see any bad beats then you are in the wrong game!

    Wow, take it easy.
as may24 said there were no specific assumptions made etc. purely observation(s) from my experiences etc.

To answer your questions in regards to win rate. Yes a good player playing at 10-20 or 15-30 will win more bb/hr than a lower limit with the typical rakes in a casino. And as for the weak players, yes they are a good thing for the game and the reason we are there...$$. Strategy is not a one size fits all and I would tell anyone to find what works for them not listen to us internet posters on proper play

Just one poker players humble opinion. Sorry to clutter up you thread OP.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like a jerk. It sounded like he was looking for a game where he wouldn't have players chasing and giving bad beats. This tends to be a common thought with players who are relatively new to the game (I thought that way at one time as well). I have heard many times something along the lines of "If I just play higher stakes they will respect my raises and I won't get bad beat", etc. It's important to banish this thinking as early as possible or you can get yourself into trouble.

Back when I was playing LHE every couple of weeks or months in AC I tried 10-20 a few times. The difference in player quality was not huge. Some players were a little tighter than the lower limits but you still had a few loose passive players. No one that I remember was particularly good.

5-10 limit it's impossible to beat the rake long term. I played in a juicy 20-40 limit game in tunica years ago. Won a bunch with some loose ass chasers. I would bet hard early when i had a good starting hand and continue betting every street even if i missed. I'd get 2-3 callers all the way to the river and then they'd fold when their gut shot missed and i'd take it down with ace high.

I think that's a pretty blanket statement to say its "impossible" to beat the rake at 5-10 long term. It all depends on the types of players you are playing with and your skill and patience level. Where I play, I think its possible to beat it long term. The rake is 5% to a maximum of $5.
For me I am not looking long term anyways. I am happy if I can get over to play once every 3 months.

Your problem is going to be finding a limit game at that denomination. Most rooms only spread no limit or mixed games these days at those levels.

The only room you may find it at is bellagio.

With that rake schedule, you definitely can beat 5/10 long term. Good players can start beating 4/8 longterm fairly easily with a reasonable rake. 3/6 or less, not so much.

NL players just automatically assume limit is unbeatable because they usually find limit too boring to play and they also usually suck at it because of that boredom. And for 5/10 limit or less, it's definitely not beatable for very much, and the players really looking to maximize total profits move to NL because NL is beatable for so much more if you are good at that game.

I find this particular 5-10 game beatable for a small profit if you want to sit and play a good session of 6-8 hours and grind. people do get bored and bet bad hands for action. its easy to pick your spots.
I am going to play tomorrow morning and think i am going to stick to the 5-10 game as i am just going to play for fun.

I used to play 4/8 LHE I got sick and tired of people chasing all the way to the river and drawing out on the river. I went to 1/2 NLHE its a lot better you do not have the chaser's like you do in LHE. Plus you can win a lot more money long term. and if you are running bad the blinds do not hurt you as much. All though I still like to play 4/8 LHE every now and then its just a suckers, BINGO game.

So went over to play poker today. Got to the casino at about 8am, 2 tables running, but 5 wait lists. I ask how long and the pit boss says about 40 minutes. 2 hours later I finally get on a table. Played 5/10 half kill.
While half kill increases the wagers, I do not like the game. I felt that it was a tax on a win. I would win a $50 pot and be forced to post a $10 bet that would always be an awful hand. So it was the rake plus 10% so about 15% came off for a win. Not good.
I was going to play 10/20 so bought $600 at the cage but got on the 5/10 first so just stuck with it.
Was down almost $200 and was going to let myself play until I lost $200 when I staged a late inning come back.
One hand where the half kill helped me was when I limped in with queen/rag and the flop showed the other 3 queens. People were actually betting, I let them bet until the river then raised and to my surprise had a caller for a $40 bet. Was about a $200 pot. After about 4 hours of playing, I ended up about $80 on the day.
Overall I was not happy with the limit game, seemed boring to me. Will go to another casino next time to try no limit.
as far as the difference between 5/10 and 10/20 I don't think there is much., although when you get to the 20/40 I did notice a very big difference. Since 20/40 is the highest limit available at this casino, all the players seemed very skilled and I would be intimidated and perhaps over my head.
The small bad beat was hit at the table next to me for 7k
Since limit poker wasn't enough action for me, after I left I played some roulette and walked out of the casino up $430, so all in all a good day.
I would go back and play limit again, but it just didn't seem as fun to me as it used to.

Congrats on the win, it sounds like overall a fun trip to the local casino!

I am sure many can relate to the "boring" sensation in limit, probably why so many different type games are spread in the major poker markets now days, to keep it fresh and exciting?

Hopefully you can give it another go in a new game that will quench your appetite for some fresh action.

At Bellagio, one of few Las Vegas casinos to spread $10-20 limit hold'em, the $10-$20 players limit holdem players are typically much better than the $4-$8 limit holdem players. But that is because the $4-$8 game at Bellagio is among the softest poker games in Las Vegas -- easily beatable by anyone with good limit holdem fundamentals.

I thought quality limit was gone in Vegas. Thought LA and east coast was it now (AC/Foxwoods)

It mostly is. But Bellagio has a decent amount of mid stakes games (aka > 0).
