Table Games Ever have a big hit get away

On my third trip to Vegas, I was wandering around The Mirage while my DH was playing poker. There were some roulette tables close to the poker room. The tables were pretty packed and I stood there debating on whether to walk up and place a money bet on #13 (my son told me to play that number). So, I finally worked up the courage (was still fairly new to gambling) and with a $20 bill in hand went to place the bet and ......."No more bets"

Guess what number hit?

Anyone have a similar story?

 

Too similiar... I had a free $3 Roulette bet for some casino(cant remember) So, I walked up, had 4 red chips so I put one on 28, my number, my $3 i had also on 28 and then 2 reds on the columns, well I changed my mind, eventho It was a full table and I loudly said 28 it is, they saw and heard me change it to 3, eventho I already had a red on it, so a guy takes a green and throws it on 28.....
Well.. it was OF COURSE 28.
FAIL..
Also, not a HUGE loss, but I missed out on $280

 

Was in Table Mountain Casino near Fresno, threw down a $5 bet on red just because I had never played before and I was young with little money, and $3 on 11. Dealer said I couldn't do anything less than $5 on the inside so I said, whatever, and threw it to him as a tip because I would rather he end up with it vs. the house. Of course 11 comes up and we all cry a little.

On the flip side, was in Vegas at Ballys last trip in Sept and threw down $5 or $10 straight on 21 and it hit. First and last spin on roulette for the whole trip.

 

not really a big hit but....

last trip in March, decided to give the Hangover slots a shot (I hate both penny and video slots, so this was a stretch for me, but it looked like fun.

my $20 quickly turned into $120, and I was having the time of my life, and I got to the bonus round yet again.
for anybody who isn't familliar with the game, you have to select 'polaroids' to turn over and match, and as soon as you turn over a specific number of matching pictures, thats your bonus, or chance to play for that particular bonus.
anyways, after turning over a bunch of cards with all the low bonuses, I managed to turn over 5 'Alan' pictures in a row, which was pretty impossible.
That gave me a chance to win the progressive jackpot, which was, as far as I can remember, a little over $1000.
I had to pick 4 out of 6 'satchels' on the screen, and would get whatever bonuses are under them. 5 of them had numbers, one of them had a picture of Alan. That picture gets you the jackpot.
None of the 4 that I picked had the jackpot. the one that my g/f was telling me to pick, but I ignored her, was the winner.

I'm still kind of pissed off, in a non-angry way, about it.

 

A group of us were doing the Cosmo $100 deal on the $5 wof slots. The person before me was down to $5 and I told her to wait for me to put $5 as you don't want to hit spin and not be maxed. She didn't let me and she lost. I set down and started playing and hit spin about the fourth spin only to realize that I was only playing $5 a spin and not $10. Who knows what I would have won but I also could have tried the deal again the next day instead of losing my money after that and never being able to take advantage of the offer again.

 

Excuse me if you've heard this before, but it's 100% true. Over 10 years ago, I was playing BJ at the Fremont with a good friend, Pat, all afternoon; but not getting anywhere, I went to the Golden Nugget. The change in venue must have been the magic ticket, for I got on a terrific winning streak and more than tripled my original buy-in in less than an hour. Perhaps it was elation from my growing pile of chips, or maybe because I was drinking half my weight in booze, but I was feeling the invincibility that often accompanies such moments. I hadn't told Pat where I was heading (I wasn't sure myself), but she just happened to walk into the Nugget and find me right after I made the largest bet of my life. Seconds before she arrived, I had slid out a pile of $5 chips, precariously stacked on top one another, which must have been around $200. I was more preoccupied with trying to maintain their balance than adding them up, and didn't notice her walking up beside me. Knowing that such an outrageous bet was far from my norm, she immediately yelled, "What the hell are you doing? Have you lost your mind? What's wrong with you?"

"Gee I guess you're right, "I said, my sanity temporarily returning, "What was I thinking," and managed to pull back all but $10 just as the cards were being dealt. The dealer glared at me, while my friend appeared pleased that she saved me making such a foolish and outrageous wager.

At times like those, I believe there must truly be a god with a warped sense of humor. As you can guess, I was dealt a blackjack! Pat's expression instantly changed from one of proud accomplishment to a mixture of shock and fear. Without uttering a word, she turned and ran and I didn't see her again for several hours. It will probably be another 10 years before I can appreciate whatever she still finds humorous about this story!

 

Had $50 on the hard 8 at Bellagio on the come-out. I called my hardways off. A f**king hard 8 was rolled! And it happened again later in the same shoot. At least $900 left on the table! Arrrgh!! I still have nightmares about that!

 

Was playing at a $5 Let It Ride table at Harrah's back in February and was at the table for about 1.5 hours. I was down about $200 when my wife texts me and says that the gang will meet me in a couple of minutes at my table and we'll go for breakfast so I played my last hand and got up to wait for them. A guy takes my place and with the next deal gets a royal flush!! $3000!! I guess now I know why I never stay around a table or machine once I'm done. That was one expensive breakfast.

 

I've been on the other side of it. Playing Let it Ride, $5, I was dealt a 3 of a kind.

A few hands later the lady to my right answers her phone and is told that she can get the cards if she gets off the phone or take the call. She decided to step back and take the call. Another 3 of a kind for me!

 

Believe this one if you like....

My friend turned 18 and went to buy cigarettes and a lottery ticket because he could legally. He picks five numbers that all have significance to him and begins to fill out the form. He fills out the first one....messes up and starts overs. Gets a second paper....messes up once again. Third time he gives up and just asks for quick picks.

Next day he checks the paper....His first 5 numbers hit. He wouldn't have won millions but he would've definitely won a life changing amount for a 18 year old. I know this is a crazy story and hard to believe but its true. He says its a good thing he didn't win because he would've just done stupid stuff and probably ruined his life. I don't agree lol.

 

Last year I won a bet with some friends regarding how many push-ups I could do. After all night drinking, I banged out 38 push-ups on the casino floor of PH. My buddy handed me a Cosmo black chip which I changed out at the cage for a ph black. As we walked up to a roulette table, I tossed it on the table and yelled 17 straight up. The dealer refused my bet as he was saying "no more bets" while chip was midair. As you already know, it hit 17.

Another time last year, I dropped a purple on no. 30 as I will randomly do if im up (never hit it). This time, my gf freaked out that I was "throwing away" money. As i didnt want to hear it from her all night, I swapped it for a green. You guessed it, 30!!! Since that moment, I do not let her around me when I play. Now she still hears it from me.

 

Last trip at the Beau I looked at a Bacc table and the shoe looked pretty good. Just a couple of guys playing so i run to the bathroom real quick before sitting down. On the way I run into a buddy and we chat for a few minutes. I get back to the table about 10 minutes later and player has won 14 in a row while I was gone. I have no idea how these 2 guys managed to play that many hands that fast but it pissed me of to no end missing that streak. Cost me 6 figures minimum.

 

I was playing $2.00 a spin and after nothing with a few spins I drop down to $1.00. Still not a single hit. Maybe a couple for like $1.00 or something stupid like that. Not wanting to kill my $100.00 completely, but still wanting to hit my point (this is at a CET casino) I drop down to .50. Wouldnt you know it, 2 spins later.



Still got $250.00 but I should have gotten $1K or at least $500 if I toughed it out.

 

Last trip. Three play DDB video poker. I was going broke and down to my last hand. I didn't have the required 15 coins, so instead of putting in extra money I played the 4 coins I had remaining. I got dealt quads.

 

The ones being posted about a miss on a slot or video poker probably wouldn't have happened anyway. Those RNGs work constantly so the outcome changes by the millisecond. Not to say I wouldn't feel the same way if something like that happened to me.

 

Not a Vegas story, but we used to go to the local racetrack some Saturdays, to sit in the sun, have a few beers and hotdogs, and slap the programs against our thighs every half hour. They had a bet called the twin triactor, where if you won the triactor in the penultimate race of the day, you get as many bets as you made in that race for the triactor in the ultimate race, and take home the often carried over twin triactor pot, or a share of it, if you won the second triactor, as well.

So, we're out there at the last race of the season, and the prize has to be given out no matter what, so if no one had 1-2-3 for the second triactor, 1-2-4 won, and so on according to some schedule. There were maybe ten races for the day, and I'm out with my buddy and his girlfriend, and we were going out to some dance bar after that, so come the ninth race I'm starting to feel the pinch, and think about conserving some cash for later. I have a good idea of which horse I think will win, and instead of wheeling him, I pick him and box the second and third horses, and win that, so I have three bets in the final, for the $24K or so. I pick some nag, and he comes in fourth, or something, so I'm not happy, but relieved that I didn't lose out by not making the wheel bet in the race before. So we wait to see what won, and wait, and wait, and of course you've guessed that had I wheeled the horse I did pick to come in first, I would have won that $24K. This was 25 years ago, could have bought a damn house!

 

I'm convinced that the best way of conjuring the big payoffs is not to bet, or playing less than max coins on machines, or not taking the "sucker" side bets on table games. My personal favorite occurred in Tunica a dozen years ago when playing BJ on 6-deck shoe game. I got three suited 7's that would have paid $5,000 had I bet the lousy $1 on the Super Sevens. Now, every time I get three 7's I have a flashback, and it still hurts! Maybe that's why I like playing at BJ at MSS so much. Aside from the architecture/ambiance, brew pub, friendly crew, blah, blah, blah; it's the only place I play BJ that doesn't have any side bets!

 

My worst one was many years ago at Stardust. I was playing Caribbean Stud & I was alternating play on the $1 'sucker-bonus-bet' One hand "in", the other hand "out". And - you guessed it... No, I didn't get the Royal or the straight-flush, but I did get 4 aces, costing me $500...and, of course, the dealer failed to qualify, so I didn't even get the 20-to-1 payout on my hand. I only won the ante at even money.

Vegas buddy had a worse one just a few years ago at the Nugget. We were playing 3-card & he was playing $10-$15 on the pair plus, sitting on 3rd-base. He gets a wild-hair and ups it to $25...and his cell-phone rings. The dealer tell him that he cannot play and be on the phone at the same time, so he pulls his bets back, stands up & takes the call. The dealer is now getting his cards... which, of course, ended up being a straight-flush.
To this day, we still call it the "$1000 phone-call"... and we always keep our phones off while playing now.

 

Roulette Again

I've made a bit of a tradition of making an even-money $100 roulette bet before I leave LV, at the hotel I'm staying in.

A couple of years ago, things were quite rushed on the last day, and we headed out for the airport without me having made the requisite bet. However, my companion for the trip needed to buy a stuffed lion at MGM for his fiancee, so we stopped off there. After acquiring said lion, we were walking out and I remembered the bet...

Stopping by a single-zero table (gotta love MGM for that), I peeled off a Benjamin and a Jackson, put 'em two-ways down on 1-18, explaining as I did (empty table, nearby 00 table was packed...) the significance of the bet to the croupier.

He spun the ball, called no-more-bets, and mentioned that most people doing that put it straight-up. Asked me what number I would take if I were doing that, easy answer (my daughter's age at the time)... 1.

Sure, I won my $100, the dealers got their $10. And you'll never guess what number it was that triggered that 1-18 payout.
