So on the surface this seems like it'd be an obvious choice. My wife and I are currently booked at mc for 50 a night for 3 nights with a 40 dollar food credit. We're having a family get together somewhere at the Monte Carlo. My family is staying there.

The offer on Hotwire for what looks like Cosmo sounds awesome. My only reservations are this. Their standard rooms weren't too impressive and I'm sure they won't give a Hotwire customer any opportunity to upgrade. I've seen the suites there and they are amazing. I'd love to stay in one but budget is a concern for my wife and I.

Bottom line, for those who have been to both properties. Assuming difference in cost is negligible. Are the standard rooms at Cosmo awesome enough to justify some inconvenience. Thanks!

There is nothing wrong with standard rooms at Cosmo.
Never had a bad room and I'm super picky.

Standard rooms in Monte Carlo are pretty weak.
Small bathrooms, small windows, thin walls are issues.
I would be happy to pay $50/day more for Cosmo over MC.

You have to ask!? I mean it's night and day, even with the regular rooms. I agree about not being excited about the regular rooms, but still even just being in the property is so much nicer, better food, drinks and everything.

I'm sure you could try and upgrade, they don't care how you bought your room, and certainly don't know how much you paid if it was prepaid.

Also do note it could be Aria... and if it says no casino it's Vdara. Make sure you are ok with that before you purchase.

I have looked a few different dates today and the usual giveaways on Hotwire for Cosmo are gone :(

It looks like they always have Vdara offered (suite, no casino) and then now they have another 5 star casino offering for Strip south but all signs point to it being Aria.

No problem with Aria but the good thing about Cosmo is for people with a few guy friends or same sex - you are guaranteed the standard room which has 2 beds. Almost every other hotel that works with a bidding/Hotwire system only guarantees 1 bed when you mark 2 people(otherwise you pay substantially more).

I hope they put Cosmo back up on Hotwire (I think it might be because I coupled a weekend night with it)

Monte Carlo is a generic casino with generic rooms.
There's nothing wrong with either, by the way, and I actually kind of like the property.

Cosmo, however, is something special. It's flashy, it's fun, it's vibrant, it's hip and sexy. There is excitement all over. Your room will be way better and so will your view.

There isn't any debate in my mind.

At Monte Carlo you'll get a room.
At Cosmo you'll get an "experience".

What is the Cosmopolitan standard room? Is that the City Room? I've stayed in a Terrace room at Cosmo and can say it's much more impressive than a standard Monte Carlo room.

The Cosmo was nice but it had some drawbacks. Being a light sleeper every little noise from the Bellagio Fountains to the bathroom fan whistle and mini fridge cutting on all night kept me up.

I slept better at Monte Carlo but the lamp shades had holes in them and you could tell the rooms have taken it's share of abuse and is showing wear and tear. Cannot compare the 2 rooms decor.

Casinos - I would choose Monte Carlo over Cosmo. I do not like the Cosmos casino at all. Buffets - Cosmos Wicked Spoon gets the nod over The Buffet at the Monte Carlo but it's not that bad.

Monte Carlo is a world class...dump. If you have the option of Cosmo, take it!

If you wanted a fair comparison, you might want to compare having a suite at MC to having a regular room at Cosmo, because that's a lot closer in price than comparing regular rooms.

But all in all, comparing MC to Cosmo is the equivalent of comparing a hamburger to steak. They're both beef, and you may be in the mood for a hamburger once in awhile...but you really can't compare the two.

You'll always be able to return to the MC at a comparable room rate.

The main difference between a standard "city" room and a terrace room is the balcony. It's also a bit larger.

I posed the question of possible upgrades in this thread, and a poster said you can upgrade for $30/night for a upgrade to a balcony.

I stayed at MC once, and I was more impressed with a remodeled Excalibur "widescreen" room which had a new furniture (MC was old and beat up), cleanliness and a nicer bathroom.

A co-worker returned from a Cosmo stay last weekend. She paid for a upgrade for a high floor, fountain view. The fountains were off for 2 days (she didn't know why, but sometimes they do not have shows due to wind and or maintenance) and Cosmo refunded a portion of the upgrade fee for a feature they do not control (Bellagio) nor do they promise as part of the upgrade. I thought this was a nice gesture and the type of customer service you do not always see in Vegas circa 2013.

The only two reasons to stay at MC would be if you have really wanted to stay at the same property for your get together (and they are relatively close) or if the price difference was significantly higher than what you have budgeted.

Okay, if you still don't have the Cosmo reserved think about this...your family is staying at MC.

Stay at the Cosmo! You will want to get away for a while and spent some time with the wife!

Cosmo 100%, I've never stayed at MC but I've been in their rooms and it is like comparing a Geo to a Cadillac.

So luckily for me the price on the Hotwire rooms soared to 93 a day for our days... which sucks.

But, we're likely going to book a SW vacation to earn some travel for later this year, and get three nights at the Aria (and 2 RT flights obviously) for 900. The price is only 40 bucks more than the MC and since the Tram will take my family to Aria if necessary, there's not that much inconvenience.

Thanks all for giving me some solid advice. It is appreciated

Funny, my wife and I had the same offer at MC booked. Then we decided to get a terrace studio at Cosmo. Have stayed at MC many times and never at Cosmo. Really looking forward to it though.

Since we're not in our 20s I'm wondering if we'll feel out of place at the pool though. It looks like they have three pools with varying levels of 'party' atmosphere so I'm assuming one of them will suit us.

Theres just no way you can compare Cosmo to MC. I have stayed at both and the Cosmo is by far one of the nicest hotels on the strip. Room with a balcony and a view of the Belaggio fountains alone is worth it.
