I'm not sure what to think yet until more details and visual renderings are available. I hope they don't destroy the theme of NYNY.

One thing I didn't see in the article is the time-frame for the changes to the building facades, etc. to NYNY and Monte Carlo on the strip side --- i.e. when work starts and the target for completion. Did I miss that?

It would be a real shame to see the Brooklyn Bridge disappear.

While it's cool, it's wasted space and $$ per square foot.
It serves no purpose, like that big giant wasted space in front of Bally's

Why does Ballys have all that space in front?

Most casino back in the day had big areas in front of them for parking. Check out the old pics.

Just about all of them have been replaced or have added buildings closer to the street. Ballys is the exception. They are planning some shopping bazzar for the place.

Here are the old pics: http://gaming.unlv.edu/Xanadu/then.html

Caesars Palace used to have major flooding during rainstorms in their parking lot. The Strip was also home to a couple of golf courses. One thing you will notice is the lack of walking pedestrians and green landscaping. You would have to drive, taxi, or bus to each property. The Strip on windy days was a literal dust storm with rolling tumbleweeds.

Looks really nice, but not enough of a draw to tear me away from the off-Strip properties and endure what the Strip atmosphere has become.

I wonder if MGM seriously considered the same development on that empty N Strip property West of the SLS (old Sahara). There were probably some discussions over whether to spread out or to centralize. Looks like we know which path MGM chose. Sad to see the old El Rancho site still languish.

I was thinking about that, too. I can see why they wouldn't want to do develop it now but you would think they would sell for the cash. They probably overpaid for it but it's not like the value will go up anytime soon. Let's face it - City Center II need not happen.

Why wouldn't they call it Central Park?

    This is my personal opinion based on nothing more than what I like, what I don't like, and my loathing of shopping;

I think this sucks far and away more than the idiotic Linq project with it's bowling alleys and chain-restaurants, and retail shops. Cause the one thing Las Vegas needs is more places to buy what can be bought at home for 1/3 the cost. The Linq will attract the proletariat.

This idea ranks as high on my list of hateful changes to the Strip as that Trashdashian magnet, The Sugar Factory. Tearing out that beautiful fountain in front of Paris to put in a chain restaurant and a store that sells low-end grocery store candy may be generating some income but it destroys the ambiance that Paris used to have. So the de-themeing of the resorts continues. Now walking down the Bellagio side of the strip will no longer be fun or exciting to look at. It will be nothing more than a outdoor mall; fuck that.

Pattie, I agree. I hate the current de-theming going on. I'll be glad when this era is over.

Hoping the Resorts World Asian themed casino starts a new era of themed casinos and unique experiences on the strip.

I've always thought that the front of Monte Carlo does not look inviting, pushing that out toward the strip with more street front like MC would be more welcoming when walking by.

I know a lot of people may not agree and think that it is a cliche, but I hope they don't touch Diablo's.

Sounds like just what that are needed, to me it was the worst part of the strip. It can be hard to navigate, dirty, and just visually unappealing. I am looking forward to this.

When is all this construction expected to start? I'm staying at Monte Carlo June 15th.

My first impression of these pictures was "wow, they can fit so many more porn slappers between NYNY and MC now".
