Pools closing for private functions

Is this common in Vegas or was this just an unlucky coincidence:

On Wednesday we came back from golf about 4:45 and we wanted to spend some time around the Cosmo pool. When we got there we were told it was closed to prepare for a a concert that evening.

Friday I had checked out of my strip hotel and checked into the Golden Nigget. When I got to the Nugget, I was informed that the pool would be closing at 3 PM so they could set up for a private inner around the pool that night.

This really pissed me off. Does this happpen a lot?

 

I have been out to Red Rock once, last april. Wanted to see the pool, went outside, and there was a sign it was closed for a private party. Same day, we went to the M, same thing. Middle of the week.

 

The only time I went to the Red Rock pool (a Friday, mid-summer around lunch time) they were clearing everyone away to prepare for an evening concert. Yep, it sucks.

I dont doubt that its a popular thing to do. These are for profit places. I someone wants the pool to themselves for a party and are willing to pay the price, why not?

 

I'm not sure how common it is, but it does occur from time to time. I've experienced closures at Caesars and Flamingo.

 

My buddy worked at the Dos Caminos that used to be in Pallazzo. He said they were closing the night we were in there because of a corporate XMas party that the company paid $85K for. Wonder what it costs to close a pool for a party- has to be close to that, wouldn't it be?

 

Um....becasue I paid for a hotel with a pool....not a hotel without a pool.

Generally I agree with you, but after a day out on a dessert golf course a dip in the pool and a few minutes in a hot tub would have been nice.

 

I def do! Our Labor Day weekend trip we live in the pool at flamingo! Would be major disappointed in a closure.

That's terrible. I never had hear about this, before.

For us, it is very important to spent time at the pool, feeling the warm wind, to see the sun und to swim a little bit - that's a nice part of our vacation.

Which hotels in Vegas are closing ther pools for private parties/concerts??

 

If there's an amenity listed as a feature of the hotel that is not available, especially if it's been rented out for a private function (not a maintenance or other unforeseen issue, but they chose to close it for extra profit), I would fully complain during and see what they offer you. If they don't do anything then, I would fully complain at checkout and look for a discount. I might also be of the mindset to complain on Twitter or some other social media outlet, maybe a TripAdvisor review.

 

It does happen frequently at the Hard Rock, but fortunately they have 5+ acres and several pools, so only certain sections get roped off.

 

this is how I believe it should be...if you are going to have a pool, advertise having a pool, charge a RESORT FEE (at many places) for the amenities of a "resort", then I fully expect all of those amenities to be available at all advertised available times unless there is some type of emergency that is maintenance related and not related to shutting it down to make a profit

if a place wants to have a for profit pool they can rent out to private parties then they need to have more than one pool and they should also clearly state in their advertising that one of the pools is sometimes closed for private events

I personally could live with a single restaurant being closed since there will be other restaurants and since most likely you will be having another meal when you can go to the restaurant that was closed, but a pool or the health club/fitness center, the casino of course, and other things I expect to be open and available to paying guest or I would expect to be comped something for that.....after all Vegas in particular is not shy about letting you know they are charging you extra for particular amenities so they should not be surprised when one wants something in return for not having an amenity available

and since it is Vegas what prevents some High Roller from simply saying "I will pay more or I will never return unless you bump your wedding or pool party ect for me and here is a bunch of cash to do it"

I realize that is a bit extreme, but that is really the issue....they are taking money from some and the denying them an advertised service to take even more money from others.....where does the bidding stop and at what point does some amount of money not equal enough to give bad service to others that are paying for services and amenities

 

That's too bad but doesn't the Cosmo have more than one pool?

Do you get your resort fee back if the pool isnt available?
