I saw Vegas24_7's thread about funny craps stories but thought this belonged in a separate thread.

Ever had the box make a call you thought was wrong? Or in your favor?

I was playing at Palazzo once and one of the die landed between two short stacks of chips with the edge pointing as straight up as could be. I happened to be standing across from the stick, where I could see right along the edge of the stuck die.

The die that landed flat was a 4. The side of the stuck die that was facing the box was a 3. He called a 7 out.

I know the rule is how the die would land if you removed the obstacle. But in this case there were two obstacles, and the die was straight up.

Couldn't he have called a no roll in that situation?

Still pisses me off 3 years later, lol. :grrr:

The one bad call I remember to this day was probably 10 years ago I was playing the don't pass and I had the a don't come bet on every single number with odds. The shooter rolls and the dice lands just as the boxman was throwing some chips towards one of the dealers. The dice clearly lands on a seven-out, the chips hits the dice and become a pass line winner. The crowd cheers and the dealers even looked at the boxman to see if he'd say anything and he just shrugged it off and told them to pay it. I intervened and said I saw what the dice clearly was before he threw the chips and he said he saw nothing and took no responsibilty. It was completely obvious he saw it but pretended to that he didn't. He took the path of least resistance otherwise all the right bettors would be pissed, especially at me. I just sucked it up and luckily the shooter honeymooned the next roll for a full payout on my don'ts. Sounds bad but I still remember the boxman's smug look when he blatently lied saying he didn't see what the roll was.

I'll say again, this is where being a good tiper doesn't hurt. I've had plenty of calls go my way on cocked dice. I do remember a bad one, though.

A couple of years ago at the Orleans, the table was on a nice heater. The dice go cocky left of the box, and we can all see it's a real tos up. The stick calls over to the dealer, "Your call", and the gal says, "Seven out!" without missing a beat the table almost got turned over! Sorry. If this looks bad. I'm typing at 30000 feet on my way to vegas!

The only questionable call I've ever seen happened this year in colorado. The point was a 4. I was on the 4 plus the hard way. The guy shooting is at the very end of the table. One of the dice slips out of his hand, so it ends up where one die flies down the table, but the other die doesn't even reach the stickman. It just flops out almost right in front of me, and I'm two spots to the left of the stick. The roll -- of course -- 22. Stick man calls it good and we all get paid.

I know you said box, but in our local colorado casino there's rarely a boxman because it's not crowded, so the stick runs the game.

I have experienced this more than once. It really upsets the table and is a huge mood killer.
Would be much better to simply call "no roll".

Several years ago, a buddy of mine and I were betting the don't (normally bet the pass line, but have switched to the dark side on occasion) at a full table when one die balanced perfectly between two stacks of chips. One way it is a seven-out, the other way it was the point. Boxman initially rules a seven-out, but facing a near-riot, relented and called a no roll. Next roll was a legitimate seven and we collected on our loaded back line. The other players were not pleased at us:evillaugh

Not quite a bad call, but I had a stick man call a winner with one dice up on the rail. It was hilarious cuz it was a hot roll and I was betting big for them cuz I was up about 5k just on this roll. The box person just stared at it and said nothing. Finally someone pointed out it was a no roll and box person turned red from embarrassment . Of course the next roll was the point and a hardway too.

    Dice not hitting back wall

A while back I was at Fitzgeralds,(now "D"), and was up on all the numbers on the Don't Pass and Don't Come bets with single odds laid. The shooter was fixing the dice and not hitting the back wall. This went on for several rolls with the dealers saying, "Sir you must hit the wall". The shooter didn't care and was ignoring the dealers request, so I finally had to say something. The dealers then said to the shooter, "Sir if you do not hit the wall we'll have to have you pass the dice". Everyone gave me the "evil eye" but I didn't care. Some of the rolls the guy didn't even make it half way down the table! The shooter was acrooss from me on the other end of the table and hurled the dice hard. The dice left the table shooting by my head. On the next roll the shooter hurled the dice again and I put my hand up to block a die from hitting me in the face. The die bounced off the palm of my hand and landed back on the table for a seven out. Everyone was pissed off booing at me so I looked back and smiled collecting my payout.

You've got to fight for your right, to parrrrrty!

An iffy call is always ambiguous. It's a matter of interpretation, and depending on who is doing the interpreting.

Kind of like letting the IRS do your taxes.

I would stand my ground and argue the point, make a scene and make them run a tape. Chances are they just might rule in your favor, just to avoid a confrontation.

    Been there, done that.

About 8 of us got on an empty $5 table at Hooters on a Wednesday morning. The table was choppy but we were up about 30% of our buy-in by the time the dice had gotten almost completely around the table.

The shooter came out with a 6. On his second roll, one die landed on a 4 and the other was barely cocked resting on one chip. The 3 was clearly on its side and not on top. The stickman calls out 7 and sweeps the dice quickly. It should have been called an 8 but he didn't even ask for the croupier to make the call. We all go nuts complaining. The pit boss makes a call to whomever. Meanwhile, we're not making another bet until it gets resolved. One croupier kept all the bets on the table while the other had cleared his area. Pit boss comes over after approx 5 minutes. Tells the croupiers to replace the bets and they do. They didn't call "no roll" but that's how they were treating it.

Well one guy in our group had placed the 8 and was upset about the no roll so he pulled all the bets that he could. Everyone else had the pass line with odds and a come bet. Sure enough the next roll is a 7. Lost the pass line bets but won the come bet ultimately saving us money. But, we all left the table after that and now refer to the Hooters craps game as "8 out". First and last time we've ever played there.

Played at Hooters and a lady was the stick person and was getting annoyed at the hooting and hollering going on. It was a buzz kill. Needless to say we have yet to go back as well.

The worst call I ever had was at the Flamingo. We had a real hot roll going and the table was just loaded with chips. The shooter was rolling from dead center to the right of the hook. It was one of those tables that was going so well that I don't think anyone was even thinking about the seven anymore but rather how much to press the next number. Shooter gets the dice and everyone is cheering and yelling.

As he goes to throw someone sticks their hand out directly in front of him trying to give the dealer money for chips. Not down low on the felt but arm straight out. Both dice hit this person's arm and fall straight down about 6 inches in front of the shooter. The didn't bounce or roll or anything. Just a straight dead drop as soon as they left the shooter's hand. The dealer and the stickman don't say a word as a seven is sitting right in front of the shooter. They call the boxman over and tell him to make the call. He was doing something away from the game and didn't see what happened, looks at the dice sitting there and says 7-out, as if to wonder why they even had him make the call in the first place as the dice were flat on the table.

Never once did they explain to him what had just happened. The table went crazy and people were yelling and screaming at him how the dice weren't rolled etc... but once he saw how much was swept off the table he stuck by his call and didn't want to hear what happened. The worst part was when he turned his back on the table when they were explaining what happened and went right back to doing what he was doing. I skipped the Flamingo for years after that when we would walk down the strip.

I was at the lvc about a year and a half ago. the shooter was missing the back wall maybe every 5 or 6 throws (at least 1 die). There was only one person working the table (the other half of the table was closed). The stick person called "no roll" every time the shooter missed the back wall. It wasn't the shooter's fault all the time, sometimes the die would bounce left or right when it hit the felt but every time one die didn't hit the back wall the stick person called no roll. The only time the stick person allowed a roll that didn't hit the back wall was....you guessed it, when the shooter sevened out.

After that I didn't even think about playing at LVC when that particular female was working the craps table. What a chickensh*t way of working the table. :Þ

crapsguy, IMHO I hope that you don't pull that smug act at the Cal. There are a lot of big hawaiian guys that play there, you could get the evil eye but also one of those guys could "accidently" bump into you when they walked by. I saw it happen a few years ago, smug guy playing the don't was cheering and hollering whenever he won, big hawaiian guy walked by and "accidently" bumped real hard into the guy, jamming the guy in the ribs (he probably punched the guy). because the pit crew was concentrating on the table and bets they didn't see what happenned but I could tell that the smug guy was in real pain. He complained to the pit crew but they shrugged because they didn't know or see what happenned. Smug guy left the table not long after. Anyway, just wanted to warn you that some people take offense with a lot of money on the line and I wouldn't want to get those big hawaiian guys mad at me.

Actually I love playing at the Cal and get along great with the Hawaiians there. I'm usually not an obnoxious don't better screaming and yelling after a seven out, but take my wins quietly. I adhere to table etiquette at all times. I usually have great conversations with people since most are curious about why I always don't bet.
In the above situation the casino rules were not being fairly observed by all and I felt as though I had a right to say something about it. The shooter also intentionally hurled the dice towards me out of anger so Karma got the best of him when the die bounced of my hand and landed back on the table for a seven out.

I had an incident a while back at Foxwoods in CT when I was still in college. My uncle & I were at this table that was fully involved, and I threw a green chip on a yo. The yo hit, but they evidently didn't see it and didn't pay me. Even another player was pleading my case with me, and after several minutes of yelling and cussing at this boxman with no success, we told him to F off and picked up our chips and left. Several years later at Foxwoods I was playing craps and had $50 on a hard six, and I swear it came up soft and they forgot to take it down. It came up hard the next roll! Touche!
