I've been to Vegas quite a few times but I've never stayed at the Cosmo. I recently booked two free nights in a terrace studio which is weird because I have been in their casino maybe twice and always table games. Anyways, how does this room compare to Wynn/Encore or Venetian/Palazzo? Those properties are my usual spots in Vegas but two free nights for a low-roller like me were too good to pass up and honestly, I'd like to say I stayed there before it lost its luster. And just some general questions about the hotel. What do they swipe per night for incidentals? Is there a resort fee? Does the $20 trick work? What is the cheapest route to advise the cabbie to take? And most important, is this a good place to stay for a Vegas noob? I certainly appreciate the feedback.
I am confused over your Noob comment. Not a bad place for a noob, but expensive. But, you have been there and yours is comped?? As to swipe per night for incidentals. If a charge card, no issue. If a debit card - anything can happen.
I'm a Wynncore regular and we stayed at Cosmo last year... Great rooms - the level of service is maybe a notch below Wynn, but still very good. Don't know about the $20 trick since I think its usually crap - I find that just being nice usually seems to work more than a bribe. I don't remember what they swiped for incidentals...just gave them my credit card and went on my way. As for cheapest route...probably paradise up to Harmon. Overall, I think you'll like it. Great restaurants, great pool, and a fun scene. Gaming is OK - they have some 3:2 blackjack, just have to look. Be sure to have a cocktail at Vesper.
I'm taking my mom who is a Vegas noob. She's 49 and has been to Vegas a couple times but always on a tight budget with little R&R. Well I'm planning on using a pre-paid Amex for incidentals if that helps. I'd hope they just treat it like a debit card as it has my name on it. About a year ago I asked Vdara if they'd take an Amex gift card for incidentals and they said no problem and that people do it all the time.
Update Called the Cosmo today and they said using a pre-paid debit card would be no problem as long as it had adequate funds to cover the $150/night. So for my trip that's $300 even, no tax. Also, resort fees are waived when your stay is comped at the Cosmo. Additionally, I found out they have NO cash deposit option unless you find yourself in a bind and then it's up to the manager on duty to make the call. Very useful information!
