Just returned from a weekend at the Bellagio. Made out pretty well last night, but one ruling is still bothering me. I was playing the three point Molly, and the last I had up working was an 8. After a series of rolls, the pass line point at the time was hit. On the next roll, an 8 appears. I clap and anticipate my payout, but the box pushes my bet back to me and only pays the come wager itself, and says the odds do not work on the come out roll. Now I have only been playing craps for a few years now, but the status of the new come out roll should have no effect on my come bet 8 right? Regardless of what roll was happening, the come and odds are live every roll until it is resolved right?

Nope! The convention (at least in Las Vegas and Atlantic City) is that odds are off on the come out roll. You must specifically ask for odds to be on.

When in doubt, look at the marker. If the marker says off, you can tell them you want your odds working.

I agree with larry. from my experience you have to request for those odds to be On.

The odds on your come bet are off when the puck is off on the come out roll. If you want your odds working you must declare them working but you will lose them if a seven rolls.

Usually they will ask, but it is still up to the player to ensure of the rules and their bets are on/off.

I don't play the Come bet but had similar issues with hard-way bets.
Usually these are off unless you ask for them to be on. On a come out roll a 7 is hit and they take my hard-way bet. When asked they said they are on and you have to ask for them to be off.

For the most part the "rules" will be the same, but it may be the protocol that differs from casino to casino.

I now ask every time I play and making hard-way bets just to be sure.

Default every place I have been is odds off for the come out roll - just like place bets. Ask them to be turned on if you want it the other way.

While I don't play hours upon hours of craps, I do play and I can't recall last time I saw it.

Dealers rarely if ever ask if you want your come bet odds on. The only exception I've encountered is when I've asked for odds to be on for previous rounds; in that case, a friendly dealer may ask if I want odds on again.

Hard ways bets are trickier. My understanding is that the default is for hard ways to be ON for the come out roll. However, so many folkswant them off that dealers will frequently yell out "hard ways off?" If anyone says yes, they may assume everyone wants them off. Other dealers may out and out assume you want them off. Soooooo...it's safer to make sure the dealer knows your preference every time you make a hard ways bet.

    come bets off

The general convention is come bet odds are always OFF on the come out roll... unless the player requests the odds to be working....to acknowledge this, and to avoid arguements, the dealer will place an ON button on the come bet(s) you want working....

I agree it has always been this way. I am surprised that the OP was not aware of this if he has played for a few years.:rolleyes2:

    Straight up correct call

Any good vegas crew will remember your on/off preferences if you tell them once...for me, it's 'hardways always off on the comeout.' I've never had a problem.

To the OP - If you play this way frequently, youmust have come across a situation where a seven is rolled on the come out while you had some come bets in play. Did you ever question why they returned the odds to you instead of collecting them?

Hardways are different depending on the casino. If you want to be the opposite of the norm, I always do a couple of 2 way hardway bets when I first get there. Then they always ask or will assume what you want depending which way you want them if its different from the normal policy.

Thanks for the clarification guys. In saying I have played for a couple years, that actually amounts to just 3 trips to Vegas, so I haven't been that active with the game. I had just played the pass and place bets previously, and this was the first time I had gotten into the come bets. I'm sure the situation had played out many times before me, but I hadn't paid attention to it at the time. Glad I didn't argue with the dealer, I was befuddled with the call at the time but had just been chatting with him and figured that since he had been working the craps tables for 39 years, he probably knew his stuff. :peace:

    Don't Come Odds

Come bet odds are off on come out rolls unless specifically requested to be on. You don't win on the come out roll if the come point is hit, but you also don't lose the odds if a seven rolls.

Don't Come odds are always working even on come out rolls; for those that are intrested.

Odds on Odds off, your call

You must call "Odds working on the Come" otherwise, they're off.
