    Hello All,

I've been a lurker on this board for a long time, but we are now planning our sixth trip to vegas, and I have a question for you--

My husband and I both have Total Rewards cards, and when we visit, we are true "low rollers"-- we bring a wallet of $600 for both of us to gamble with for 4-5 day trip.

We also always stay at the CET properties-- usually either Flamingo or Harrah's.

That being said, I have never had anything showing for offers on either of our cards. We always end up booking through Travelocity because its cheaper with airfare included due to us NEVER having any offers available.

Would it help to call the customer service line to see if they would discount (not comp... I know that's asking way too much) our rooms? Will we ever earn any sorts of offers/discounts spending that little?

    Thanks for the insight,
    Becky

I'm no expert on CET at all, but it sounds like you each have your own card. Do you ever just check the rate calendar. You can enter both cards and they will use both cards to determine the cost of the rooms.

As far as earning comps goes: your gambling budget is pretty small for a 4-5 day trip... if you divvy the money up equally then on a 5 day trip you are basically talking about $60 each per day.

Overall there isn't much info here, like:

    A) What do you play?
Slot players will earn more for comps than table or VP players

    B) How long do you play?
If you stretch your money out for a few hours it can look like a lot more than it really is. Like if you get 6-8 hours play out of your $60 to the casino that can look like you have a much bigger than $60 budget. If you only get an hours or less play then it might look like even less than $60.

    C) What days of the week do you like to go?
It is much harder to get comps on weekends and holidays.

    D) Do you casino hop while you are there?
If you mainly stick with the CET casinos thats one thing, but if you are spending time gambling at Harrah's and then going next to Casino Royale for a little bit and then over to Venetian for an hour before heading to Mirage and then Caesars Palace... CET and Total Rewards can only rate your play at Harrah's and Caesars Palace in all that and anything you put in at the other properties means nothing to them.

There are two things I would do:

First, you might not get offers, but you might be able to get cheap/discounted/comped rooms. To find out you should have one of you log in to the Total Rewards website and go through the booking process (ignore the offers) and that will ask for a "Companion Total Rewards Card Number" and thats where you enter the other person's card. Even if the second card doesn't have much (or any) play on it, it can still have some value towards comps.

Secondly, its kind of an extension of the above: make one of you look like a bigger gambler. Next time you are there pick one of you to be the designated "main card" which should be whoever is going to play the most slots.

For that person have them get a second Total Rewards card. Then the other person will play a little bit on their card (maybe just for an hour or two on the first day ONLY - once they are done playing they should put their card away until the end of the trip) and then for the rest of the trip the second person will use the copy of the main card. Then when you are going to book your next trip to Las Vegas use the "main card" to log in to the Total Rewards site and use the second card as the companion card.

IE: if a husband and wife go and the wife plays more slots then the wife gets 2 cards and the husband gets only 1. On the first day the husband plays for an hour or two on his card and wife plays on her card. After about two hours the husband puts his card away and then for the rest of the trip puts all his play on the wife's card.
Then when booking in the future they log in to the Total Rewards site with the wife card and use husband card as companion card.

I hate to be blunt but - YOU NEED TO GAMBLE MORE if you want more and larger comps.

Based on your budget and depending on the game you play you should be receiving about $12 - $18 in comps, assuming you gamble entirely at CET properties and use your card. You probably are receiving about that much in Rewards credits.

That's no unsimilar from my play with CET. I get reduced room rates and did get comped at Bally's once. Its not going to wield you much from any Strip Property, CET or not.

Your bankroll may produce some comps if you move your gambling downtown.

    Thanks for all the replies!

We do gamble almost exclusively at CET properties-- mostly Flamingo, Harrah's and Paris.

We usually go mid-week (Mon-Fri is the current trip we're planning).

I'll try to reserve again and look for the area where I can enter both cards.

I totally get I'm a small fish, and I don't expect even a comped room-- just looking at how we can get discounted room rates.

    Thanks all!

Been staying and playing at CET props for years as low rollers and we get comped rooms (at least low end ones)...the reason,we only play slots and hubby uses my card. So all of our budget gets reflected on one acct.

Are you checking the rate calendar or just your "offers"...can make a big difference. You should have something under the calendar. My MIL goes 2 times every 5 years and shows some comps and discounts and she doesn't spend much.

Pick one card to use if you are slot players..only use the 2 card system if you are playing tables. You will notice a big difference.

Here's a tip for low limit players with CET. Call in and get them to check rates with both your TR cards together. Most times that generates the best rate.

As said often, do not try to book OFFERS, but instead just book and look at rate calendar. Try with each number separately, and together.

In the future, put all the play on ONE card.

If you're eating or purchasing anything at CET properties, charge everything to your room. You can pay the bill with cash at check out if you don't want to use a credit card. You earn points for your purchases.

Yea, I don't think $600 is enough to get anything. I'm a low roller too (lower than that), and I go like 6 times a year, and really, nothing. Occasionally Mlife will give me some heavily discounted rooms, or maybe a buy one get one free.

But I will say, like you. I don't get anything from CET, even discount or sale e-mails either (not even total rewards e-mails). Not sure why. I'm not expecting comps, but I find it weird they don't send e-mails out like MGM, I get probably 2 a day from MGM properties. But, I do know with CET, just go look at the calendar when you are logged in, sometimes comps will show up, or discounts..

    Yes, yes, yes.

Do not look for offers themselves.

Yep, to the OP as well as others who have a TR card, the rate calender is the first thing i look at when i want to book Vegas. I get offers in my e-mail and offers from TR card, however, if i want to book rooms online i always use the calender to get comped rooms. Remember, comped rooms or partially comped rooms will save you money because of the resort fee. CET charges $10-$25 per day......if you're comped, then, if you stay 5 days, the max is $125 (like CP) or $50 (at Quad). I am a Gold card user, but even if you are a Gold card user on the light side, always look at the rate calender first.

thanks again-- after searching to find hubby's card info, I was able to get all four nights comped at flamingo for the lowest level room. I'm shocked=)

I was charged the resort fee-- is this typical even with comped rooms?

Lastly, I was comped for some rooms at Ballys and Harrahs as well-- is it truly easy to cancel and re-book if we change our minds? If we go this route, should be create another booking then cancel the original reservation, or is there a better way to go about this?

Thank you AGAIN, so MUCH, for helping me through this!!

They are starting to charge the resort fee on comped rooms as well. I have had this confirmed by several different people on their reservation line.
