I've never stayed at the El Cortez and would like to. I went to Orbitz and priced out for 4 nights starting on April 7th, 2013 and the total came out to be about $140. So $35/night average.

Is this on par for El Cortez? Is there a way to get a better deal?

Being a down on the ground low baller, I like good deals!

Is that for a tower room?

I've got Fri & Sat night booked in May for $100.00.

It's not bad at all compared to their direct site. Might try EasyClickTravel...

It's their lowest level room I think. "Vintage" or something like that. I'm not a luxury room guy though I may try the $20/trick.

Totally depends on the room. The vintage room is drastically different from a super suite inside the Cabanas building. I've gotten Vegas Club and Plaza room rates for half of that and they are larger and more modern than vintage.....

El Cortez has the lowest rates for DT in my searches. How did you get Plaza / Vegas Club for so low?

I booked the EC May 4-7 through Easyclickttravel for $23/night for Tower Room plus tax. I already called and rooms are reserved. Now I'm hoping that the wifi works in the tower.

It was last summer. Hotels.com runs frequent specials (one day only, etc) at 60% off or even more. I check daily, book when the prices go absurdly low, and hope I can get a flight to match the dates. You have to be able to devote time and be proactive to get the best bargains, but that being said, ElCo vintage rooms have been consistently the lowest standard rates in downtown for awhile now, and there's a reason for that. They're still pleasant enough, but definitely small, dated, and not for everyone since they have no elevator access. It's all stairs and directly above the casino floor. Kind of neat if you're in the mood for it.

Great tip Sam. I have idle time so will check daily. I don't mind putting in a bit of work for a great deal.

I am the same except that I do the opposite. Since I prefer to fly Southwest, I check several times a day for a good fare. I book when I think it is a good deal cause I understand that I can always rebook and get credit. While doing this I search for room deals especially the ones I have stayed at and enjoyed. I have stayed at El Cortez 3 times, twice in the Towers which I love. One time I coudn't get a Tower for the weekend so I stayed at the Vintage rooms. I found that they are a bit small but I was solo. I didn't mind no elevator, and I didn't find the rooms smokey even though the halls were (I am not a smoker). Walls are thin but I didn't find that much of a problem. I could hear a tv but it wasn't bad. I just put the news channel on low and it was like sleeping with a fan to drown out the noises. I was impressed that the rooms were a bit dated but were very clean and very well maintained....and did I mention....a deal at $11/night.

To my mind, $35/nt midweek for a Vintage room is about the most I would pay. Not because the rooms aren't fine, but just because usually for a couple bucks more you can get a nicer room at another property downtown. That said, I did like being able to walk down one flight of stairs and being right on the floor of my favorite casino.

weeknights e.c. tower can be had around $23 from easyclick (shows up on Kayak) or try bookingbuddy and look under trivago tab which shows prices for otels, otel, etc.

Got mine for this weekend for Thurs, Fri, Sat in the tower for $100 after tax and fees from olotels. It was actually $15 higher than easyclick, but by the time I got the ok for the trip easyclick was "on request" and I needed an immediate answer.

Check out the above sites especially if you are going on a weekend as the discount will be greater than rack/casino/going rate. I think these are travel block purchases so grab them before you have to look at the higher going rate.

$35 per night is about average for El Cortez. I've heard the Vintage room walls are very thin and it can be hard to sleep. I can't verify this as I've never stayed Vintage. But I recently stayed in the Tower rooms and heard noise up and down all night long.

But in the Cabana Suites, I've never heard noise. And you can usually get them for around $35 per night, at least during the week.

actually I think it all depends on what is going on at the time of your stay. I got 6 nights in the vintage rooms for $200 last month, slightly better than VV but it was right during NASCAR. All other hotels were much higher in price, mostly over $45 - 50 a night and a lot more for other DT hotels.

But then again, I stayed at the EC last october when there wasn't anything going on and I only paid $150 for 6 nights (tax and fees included) so I think the rates all depend on supply and demand and events going on.

thanks for the info sam. I normally use kayak to do hotel seaches but I did notice sometimes that when you go to the hotels.com site you can actually sometime get lower rates than kayak. I found the same thing with dollar/thrifty for rentals, kayak/carrentals.com and other car rental sites show a certain rate, but when I go directly to dollar/thrifty there is a button to click to get local specials which offers lower rates than the ones the third party sites offer.

I like the vintage rooms because of it's easy access to the casino and also to the parking structure to get to my car.

I just came back from 4 night stay at El Cortez...it is a great value. Good gambling in general...3 dollar BJ.... good rules...friendly staff. Very good deals at Cafe Cortez...5 dollar beer(micro-brew) and burger, chips... 24 hours. Good Prime rib,salad,potato,corn..7.99. The down side is that the rooms are not in best repair, old tvs, and that nasty smokey, perfumey smell in casino!
