I've heard some people saying they've talked to a host and been able to get some upfront comps from Cosmopolitan.

Otherwise its like you suspect: the people at the Identity Club desk aren't going to just throw you some free rooms and roll out the red carpet and make you a VIP in honor of your gambling habits at one of their rivals.

Just that they don't know if making you a VIP is going to translate in to your bringing your action to them as well, or if you are just going to snag a good room for free and then go back to Aria or Bellagio and keep gambling there.

Thats why the host might work: it brings in a little more personal interaction between you and their property and if you did do something like stiff them on the casino play it puts somebody there in the spotlight to make sure the issue gets resolved and they recoup some/all of the upfront comps they'd given you.

Are you planning on giving them a commensurate amount of play? If so, and a host won't help you upfront, play at a good level for a day then ask about a club pass then. Likewise room credit when you check out.
If you don't plan on playing, well, that's why casinos don't like to comp unknowns upfront.

if you are Mlife Noir, you really should not be worried about up front comp.

If you hold up your end (gamble 4 hours/day), your host will comp at the end of the visit.

I say just book the room there through the host and play at your normal level there. It will all work out in the end.

That's not the point. I refuse to go anywhere without an upfront RFB comp. Sure chances are it won't matter in the end but the point is not having to worry. I put in my play normally and in return i expect some guarantees. Sometimes maybe something happens and I don't get in as much play. I don't want to be on the hook. Or maybe I want to lock in a winner. Probably a couple of times in all my trips that's happened but itdoes happen and I don't want to be hoping I get things picked up.

I understand your perspective, but some of the claims on this board confuse me. My comment was based on the fact that the OP is Mlife Noir.

I go to Vegas 4 times a year. I play blackjack 99% of the time. Usually in high stakes room. My host gives me RFB on my room, plus I often get more than one extra room comped, possibly show tickets, if summer, a cabana - always FAR more than any upfront offers. I never even ask what will be comped up front - I just tell my host what I need and he is always fair with comping as much as possible at the end of the trip. Earlier this month I got 4 rooms at THEhotel comped, limo, plus all my FB. (https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90211)

But here is the rub: I am only Mlife Platinum!?!?!

so.... I can see your perspective for players who usually do not play enough for additional comps above and beyond an offer. Wanting that committed offer up front makes sense for them. I just do not get how Noir level players are even worried about it in the least????

sure, when you have a good relationship with a host, you don't ask questions. you just know he'll do what he always has done and that's fine. that's a totally different situation. i'm talking about when you move to a new property or a new host like the OP is talking about, I would never go in with the "we'll look at your play at the end" bullshit. you could play your ass off and the host comes back and gives you some crap about how you didn't play enough, blah blah, and stick you with a big bill. I don't go for that.

I concede your point (honestly), but on the other hand, I do not think it is reasonable to expect upfront RFB if you have literally never gambled at that casino. There was another chain about an Mlife player who had never played Mirage, but was a regular player at other MGM casinos. Mirage would not give him upfront RFB. I do find that odd and would be annoyed too.

jh10046... Please let us know what the host Matt Hagen says. I'm curious what they can do for you.

Yes, that player was me. It certainly is frustrating how the Mirage won't do anything for me when my play at all the other properties proves my gambling track record.

But getting back to the OP's question about the Cosmo. It does suck since your are a NOIR member and that is not good enough to get upfront. My only suggestion is if you happen to know a host well enough from Mlife, have him/her refer you to a Cosmo host that they know well and hopefully they can comp you upfront based on that.

@Jh10046 - On a side note, I assume that there will be some major competition now that Hakkasan will be open in April 2013. Unless they changed their policy, you get 2 free tickets per room on Friday nights. It's also really easy to buy the tickets online and skip the general admissions line (unless you are looking to get comped upfront, that's a different story).

How did you get your RFB the first time at a property? I assumed you played up to that level. The only players I know of that got RFB up front without any play history are really big players.

I take the approach of the other post. If you play big enough (Noir isn't really the key, its your theo), then the host at a new property will take care of everything at the end. That's what happened to me in the past several months at Wynn and Venetian (where I had very little play history). I booked the room up front, but by the end, hosts were comping everything, sendimg me back to the airport in a limo, and promising even more on future returns

This is why I am genuinely perplexed. Seems to me that if you are a big enough player to actually get upfront comps in this scenario, you are big enough player to not even worry about upfront vs. at end. I am actually surprised that others have been able to get upfront RFB without any play at casino (other than in "sister property" scenario)

Can you really do enough non-gambling stuff to get to Noir without a decent theo? This is part of my confusion. I know you can get points for non-gambling activities - but Noir??? In my sample of one (me!), it makes no sense: I am only Platinum, but get FAR more comps than any offer and never have to give it a seconds thought. I do not even look at offers - just call my host.

What am I missing? I am referring to people who seem to have a mismatch of Mlife level and Theo (high level, low theo)?

This is like the chicken or the egg argument. Which comes first? In the end, does it really matter? If you gamble enough to get RFB, you shouldn't really sweat it. Just ask a host roughly how much you'd have to play to cover your expected comp level.

I don't expect the same comp level as with any property that I have built a relationship with. Its really the second time and after that I will really expect the full amount. That being said, i generally use very little of my comps allowed, but every third or fourth trip I blow things out of the water and they are covered. In the end it's all about building a relationship.

For your first time, spend a couple nights. Why try to swing for the fences on your first trip out. I've had many good stays at the cosmo.

Edit: I'm speaking from a mid to strong level player. Obviously as a mid six digit CL and above your expectations are definitely higher. Someone that plays at Natedog level is generally known and won't be nickel and dimed like us little folk.

You could get Noir by playing 10K tier points a day for 100 days (at least under the old system, before it was invite.) If you did that, your theo wouldn't even rate a suite.

I know this doesn't address the point directly but..... my wife and I both joined Identity in Jan and as Platinum at MLife were given Plat at Identity. We were staying at the B and played slots at Cosmo for a few nights both gaining around 3K in points.

We both got invites for 2 comp nights in Terrace Studio, with fountain view which we accepted on a back to back basis and so have just returned from 4 comp nights. We didn't recieve any further incentives but checked out with no charges and resort fee comp'd.
