    My Trip Report

Hey Y'all! Lets get this party started right. Headed out for a few days of fun in the sun in our favorite place. My plan is to do daily updates. Ill be meeting my best friend from college, my regular Vegas bud at the Mirage for three nights of good weather, good food and hopefully some wins worthy of a picture. I've been sickly, and of course, right before this trip the doctor puts me on medicine that allows no drinking. I even called and begged for something different to no avail. I think my mom bribed the doctor. So I'm going to find all the weird non-alcoholic things you can order and report back to you guys how it goes.

I'm sitting in the urban herb garden at O'hare, which is pretty zen and smells better than the rest of ORD. Wheels down at noon!

Bon chance! I'm interested to find out if Vegas looks different without booze goggles. That is one of my biggest fears.....being on antibiotics in Vegas. Not that I am ripped the whole time, it is just the freedom of that first drink at 6AM.

Hope you have a blast. Will be watching the updates.

Uggg...there is so much sickness going around, it's even in our household. I've been popping the echinacae like crazy. Don't want be sick. Sorry to hear you are and hope you have a fun trip despite that. Our big bird touches down at 1:40 on Monday. Staying for 5 nights and hoping the alcohol will ward off any new viruses...lol.

Have a wonderful trip! I've always been told that whiskey cures everything. You may want to go that a go.

I'm currently trying this experiment. I've got a stomach bug that my whole family got and I'm trying to beat mine into submission with bourbon.

Watermelon Juice! It IS THE SHIT, I'm telling you, available throughout Aria.

I hope your not in my chair by the window in the Urban garden where I normally fall asleep and slobber a bit. It is soooo damn peaceful in the best airport in the best city in the world!

Hope you feel better and good luck on your AA trip. (rootbeer cheers)

You can't drink with the meds or its strongly suggested not to drink? Theres a big difference there!!!! Personally I suggest you live on the wild side and have a couple glasses of scotch or a few shots of tequilla...... so what if you turn purple and pass out.... its probably happened in vegas before.....lol

Good luck and have fun even if it is sober fun.

    Day one is done!

Hey guys, day one is winding down and it's time for an update.

Flight was uneventful, save some serious turbulence. When you're already on the edge of nausea, it's not the greatest. That was a new experience for me because I usually take it like a champ. When I landed, I got on the longest shuttle ride of my life. The cab line was insane, so I picked the shuttle. Big mistake! Finally got to Mirage and must've irritated the check in girl, because got only a regular room on the 8th floor. Really, though, it's fine except at the very end of the hallway. It's quite a trek but that should mean its quiet. Or not. The volcano show just started, and it's like I'm standing at the volcano! Whoa.

Put the suitcase away and headed to Gordon Ramsey Pub. My friend and I split everything because he went to society cafe a few hours before I arrived. We had the pub chips and burger shots. I was sad that they didn't have any of the mayonnaise aioli that usually comes with them, but I probably didn't need to eat it anyway. The burgers were good, had a nice flavor. If you have been to bacchanal buffet, they reminded me of their sliders.

After lunch, we walked to Bellagio and started some gambling. I played Elvis for a long time, but gave him all my money. I was starting to feel puny so we walked back to Venetian, bought some soda and went upstairs and watched the Wichita State vs Ohio State game. I ended up catching a little catnap and felt some better when I woke up. We then went downstairs and gambled and looked around. The heritage steak false walls really makes the casino feel cramped to me. You don't see any ugly stuff but the square footage is huge!

Then we had dinner at Cut. It was pretty tasty, but again we shared. I had a salad to start with the bleu cheese and champagne vinaigrette. My friend had prosciutto. Then we split a steak and some of the potato purée. Understand, when I say split, this means Skadoo had about 2.5 ounces and my friend finished the rest of it. That was okay by me though, because I couldn't eat much more. We had the New York bone in ribeye. It was quite tasty, had a good char on the outside and was seasoned nicely. The potatoes were good enough to eat by themselves. They also did an outstanding job with accommodating my friends food allergies. They brought treats at the end of dinner and went out of their way to get him sorbet because everything else had tree nuts.

The girls are out tonight in their skimpy clothes. Only about a third of them can pull it off. My friend keeps telling me that all these people will leave come tomorrow. I think he's wrong...these kids are here for their spring break and will be strutting all week.

Now I'm upstairs, listening to the volcano drums. My buddy is downstairs gambling. I really need to quit taking 4 am flights from home, because I end up in the bed early the first night.

Btw, the medicine I'm on is an antabuse. According to my pharmacist, that's what they give alcoholics who are drying out to keep them away from any alcohol. I was also advised to avoid any mouthwash with alcohol as even that can cause a violent reaction. I'm not brave enough to tempt fate.

Tomorrows agenda includes a visit to Society Cafe, video baccarat (monkey!), dinner at Diego and my winning the Lions Share!

If you are indeed taking Antabuse (Disulfiram), you definitely should not ingest any alochol, period. Doing so will make you very sick. This medication blocks the metabolism of acetaldehyde, a metabolite of ethyl alcohol. The only known indication for this drug that I am aware of is for the treatment of alcoholism. I suspect you may be taking a medication called Flagyl(metronidazole) which is used to treat certain types of infections. Alcohol ingestion while on this drug is not recommended because of the disulfiram like reaction that can occur. Flushing, nausea, headache, rapid heart beat...think of the worst hangover you have ever had....now double it. Reactions to Flagyl are not nearly as severe as Antabuse, but still unpleasant.

I've made several trips to Vegas with a friend of mind who had a court order not to consume alcohol...I cut my alcohol consumption to nearly zero on those trips....drank a lot of club soda and cranberry juice.....wasn't so bad...and still had a hell of a good time.

Look forward to reading your upcoming posts...you playing any craps this trip?
