Classic tale, boy meets girl, boy wants to take trip with girl, girl books flight, boy bails. Girl still wants to escape from home... pondering going it alone.

I know guys are cool with traveling alone... and I've traveled alone for business and to meet people at a destination... so the getting there alone isn't my worry...

Once I'm there will it be totally weird to just wander around by myself? What about the night life? I'd love to go dance or do a vip club hop or something. Anyone know what a good plan for a solo lady might be?

Not weird, just follow the usual precautions you would in any big city. I'm a woman and my next trip is solo. I don't mind being solo in Vegas at all...you can eat when and where you want..gamble when you want.

What do you like to do in Vegas normally?

The Vegas Solo is a blog written by a lady who takes regular solo trips to LV. In addition to her excellent reviews and photography, she has good trips for solo travel.

My husband is not a big fan of LV so I usually go solo. I love it. I never have to worry about anyone else having a good time. I get up when I want to, eat when I want to, and gamble as much as I want to. There's always someone to talk to is you need that social interaction. I just take the same precautions I would take when I go anywhere alone. I can't imagine many vacations by myself but LV is a great vacation for the solo traveler- In my opinion.

I see a lot of ladies enjoying Vegas solo and they sure seem to be enjoying themselves... I don't think it'd be weird at all. Hope you have FUN!

I went solo in January for a similar reason (except it was a family member who bailed on me) and I was kind of worried. My trip was pretty short, but I managed to have fun. I'm a pool person, and I was worried about not having the pool as a distraction during the day. Now that it's warming up, that option is available to you....and finding a chair for one is so much easier! What I found myself doing on my trip was a lot of walking to just see what I wanted, shop as long as I wanted, and play video poker as long as I wanted. I also met up with some VMB friends, which broke up the solo-ness. I ate by myself at the bar and no one even gave me a second glance. A couple people made small talk, but it wasn't like the wolves were stalking prey. I attended a show by myself, and it wasn't too awkward. Thank goodness for smartphones to serve as a distraction. Any time I was somewhere and started feeling a little awkward, I had my phone to mess around with. I'm not quite brave enough to go into a club by myself, but I'm not a club girl to start with, so it's just not even on my radar. Hopefully someone else can speak to that.

I like to read the Vegas Solo blog, which is written by a solo female Vegas traveler. It gave me some confidence on the last day or two when I was about ready to just cancel the trip entirely because I kept overthinking it.

ps- My go-to if some guy is being obnoxious "Oh yeah, I'm just waiting for my husband. He'll be here in a second." Works every time. (There is no husband, but most guys don't think to look at the left hand!!)

Trust me, no one cares or much notices if you are by yourself eating or at a show, or what you wear, what your hair looks like, etc. There is so much to distract them, plus these days 3/4 of the people are looking at their phone. So, go, don't worry and do what you want. I'm old and I go by myself twice a year, and I feel safer there than I do in my local town.

I am a guy, but my trip last month was my first solo trip. My only worry like Blue was dining alone. I went to 3 buffets and was asked if I was alone, I said yes and others waited while I got to skirt the line and got seated right away, it was actually kinda nice.

I love a night or two solo in Las Vegas. I'll often times extend a business trip and just relax and chill out and have some unstructured time. I'll do the casinos, usually mid-Strip, grab a camera and shoot everything in sight, maybe hang out part of one evening at one of the casino lounges where there's a live band. Go shopping at FSM or the outlets and such.

I really don't care at all about those oh-so-trendy clubs. I'm too old for that.

I've never felt unsafe in Las Vegas solo. Of course I intentionally don't go anywhere that I would not feel comfortable.

I'm going to give you the opposite side of everybody else, not to be a jerk, but just to add a different perspective.

I don't like Vegas by myself. I find that without someone else to tie me to certain times, I spend too much time gambling alone. I love to gamble alone, but having somewhere that I have to be to meet someone kind of keeps me grounded.

I like what Blue said about having meet-ups with people. I think if I had that, it would help. But I'd still much rather be travelling with someone else than by myself.

    I think it's a personality thing. I don't like living alone, either.

DMR's point is good, too. If I was on a one night trip, I'd be fine by myself. The longer the trip, the more I'd rather be with someone else.

I LOVE going to Vegas by myself....my DH (and I do love him madly) likes to get up early and then be in bed before 11 pm. I, on the other hand, like to sleep in late, gamble my brains out and drink too much. I also probably don't keep as close an eye on my finances as when he is with me.....willing to go all the way to the max of my credit line.....uh oh.....

Enjoy yourself.....I always do.....and it's easy to do. I think the worst thing for me is eating by myself. If it's just me, I'm probably not going to SW Steakhouse or Julian Serranos...more casual meals and more room service.

But, I'm one of those people who is very comfortable being on my own (see thread entitled "Naive".

Have a great time--It's Vegas!!!

Granted, I'm a guy, but I also love traveling alone. As a previous response stated, no one gives anyone a second look because they're alone.
You can do all the things you want to do without compromise.

Also, if you're self conscious about eating alone, bring a book or a newspaper and again, no one will give you a second look.

I have also traveled to Vegas alone...yes I'm a guy but I hear about ladies traveling to Vegas alone all the time. I've met some awesome people while traveling alone. As far as eating goes I would just sit at the bar....most places have a bar you can sit at.

I love my solo trips; let's face it, I love ANY Vegas trips... :D

Anyway, like everyone everyone else I don't particularly like eating alone. I've tried taking a book along, but eating and reading a paperback book is just too awkward. This last trip I brought my Nexus 7" pad with a Kindle app and a couple of books to read and it was perfect (well, maybe unless you're eating some really messy BBQ ribs). No book that won't lie flat and it's easy to turn a page with the flick of a finger.

I am going to Vegas solo for the third time and I love it. Like everyone else stated on here. Just do what you want, see what you want and keep aware of your surroundings. You are never alone in Vegas, lots of people to talk to about the same thing. Gambling. everyone has a story to tell and don't mind telling it. At least that is what I have expierenced. I go to shows by myself and have been seated with some awesome people. Have fun and don't sweat the small stuff. :peace:

I can't speak about the clubs; I, too, am too old for them, although I often think about checking them out.

Although it would have been nice to have someone with me, I had a great time. I'm going on my second solo trip in May.

I got up when I wanted, did whatever what I wanted whenever I wanted, you get the drift.

I'm a blackjack player and I also play baccarat, as well as slots, so I spent most of my time at the tables of the various casinos. I did spend some time at the Secret Garden at the Mirage, the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay and checked out the conservatory at the Bellagio.

I can't wait for my next trip. Have a great time!

If it weren't for all the females traveling alone to LV, I probably wouldn't go there as often as I do.

And that's all I've got to say about that.

I recently had half solo trip, I travelled alone and my friend met me for part of trip so I had a day/night/day by myself. After my recent trip I realized I don't want to be in Las Vegas completely alone. I did enjoy some of it but if I had not had a companion to go to dinner and see a show for two of the 3 nights I wouldn't have had as good time. and like you I have traveled for work by myself. so in summary only you will know the answer, but Las Vegas is very friendly to solo travelers. btw I never felt unsafe, and I went downtown for St Patricks day.

One thing I might wish to add about solo trips. I never do any fine dining. A nice meal is something to be shared!

I'll do a buffet, food court, casino coffee shop (a dying breed!) and if I have a car, maybe Blueberry Hill for breakfast or Jerry's Nugget for prime rib. I don't have any issue doing the counter or the bar if tables are scarce. Previously I've brought a book or magazine, now I just pull out the Blackberry or netbook.

I go solo all the time. I agree that dining is probably the most awkward. For breakfast, I always bring a paper whether at a buffet, cafe, etc. I've eaten at many restaurants alone. I sit at the bar near a tv. Funny thing is, you never need reservations. The staff is always friendly, right there to get you anything you may need and pretty laid back.
