I am taking my newly 21 year old brother-in-law to Vegas in mid-May this year and currently have a room at The Mirage. It is likely that we will spend quite a bit of time at the pool. That said, I have always been intrigued by Mandalay Bay and the pool there.

Any thoughts on this? I like The Mirage because of the location and have stayed there before and really enjoyed it. However, I could be swayed to switch to Mandalay Bay if opinions here are in favor of it.

    Thanks!

I think since it's his first trip (I'm assuming) the Mirage location will be a better value than the better pool at Mandalay Bay.

I think the MB pool is way better. It's got a beach, the wave pool and the beach club. I've been to both and really like the MB one way better

Stayed at both properties and the pool scene is good at both, but Mandalay is better. However the location of the Mirage cant be beat for a first time trip.

Have you been to the pool at MGM? Their lazy river is hard to beat.

This is a good point. I also thought about MGM but do not know much about the pool and also am not a big fan of the casino.

Does the MB pool typically have tons of kids there?

I would say that objectively the Mandalay Bay pool is far, far better than the Mirage pool. It's also significantly bigger, which makes it easier to find space, and it not only has the wave pool and lazy river, but also the beachside casino. That being said, I like the Mirage pool a lot and have spent a lot of nice afternoons hanging out there. I'd vote Mandalay Bay over Mirage, but you really can't go wrong with either.

If there happen to be a lot of kids, you can avoid it by going to the adults-only, top-optional Moorea Beach Club. The scenery might be appealing to a young man :wink2: There is an admission charge.

If you are going to be there on Memorial Day weekend, that is when the new dayclub "Daylight" is scheduled to open in the MB pool complex. That would be another great option for a young man. There will be an admission charge.

You can learn more about all the pool options at Mandalay Bay here:

    Cheers!

I love the MGM Grand pools. Lots of options. Since your trip is mid-May, college kids will still be (should be) in class so the crowd won't be as 21-ish. Which keeps the Mirage in the race.

I stayed at the Mirage last May middle of the month, and it just so happened they had record warmth for that time of year (upper 90's and higher). The pool was packed by late morning. If you didn't reserve your chairs by placing towels down, you were out of luck. And if you took too long getting back to the pool area, the staff would remove your towel. If you're able to secure a spot, the pool area is amazing. Very easy to order drinks, but they're expensive of course.

I personally liked the Mirage pool over Mandalay Bay, as I thought it was way too crowded there, just seemed like everyone was on top of you. Not what you want when it's pushing 100 and humid.
