If they get rid of the fountains, where will the homeless/drunk people bathe?

I hope they hold off starting the construction til after my trip in June. I'm staying at Bally's for four nights the first week of the month. I'm sad the "long escalator" (as they call it, walkway instead?) is leaving. I've always enjoyed using it to get to & from the Strip whenever I stay at or walk trough Bally's. Does Vegas really need another shopping area?

I always thought that was such a huge waste of real estate.
Price per sq ft is going to be interesting

Seems like there is enough shopping on the strip already. Rather see something unique go there.

I was thinking the same thing about the amount of shopping options along the strip. This place will be like all the others 95% of the year, empty. Has anyone ever bought anything in the shops at Crystals or other places? I never see anyone carrying bags.

Based on some of the original plans, I would have shopped here. I am as sure anymore. I somehow got the impression that there would be kiosks from smaller artisans but it's looking more and more corporate. I would stop in any Coach store but not necessarily buy something. At any rate, this place is definitely going to get foot traffic, something that Crystals doesn't get as much as they hoped. I found it interesting that they consulted with Bellagio - maybe it's time that the B got a return for all the great views they have provided to the rest of the strip. I just hope they understand that all this is wasted if they don't put some money into Bally's itself.

I thought the Linq was to provide shopping, a silly Ferris wheel and some bars. How much new shopping and non gambling shit does the Strip need? Bally's is already saturated in vacant stores downstairs.

I'd rather have a re-branded Bally's. Create a new casino, build out to the Strip (perhaps implode the South Tower and build a nice new building out front). Caesar's will still have their stable of low end properties to the north.

Sounds like an awful tourist trap. The east side of the strip is really going to hell.

Actually I think this project is a load of crap, for the following reasons.

    1) Enviormentally I think most people who want to shop, wish to do so in a nicer enviorment. True the place will get the visitors based on foot traffic. However I don't see this place as a draw unless they market themselves as a discount boutique kind of venue.
    Too much better competition nearby.

The space is also confined based on the number of retailers they want, so it will be like wading thru flea market crowds. The potential retailers that CET is going to attract are not going to have a better retail space than MM Shops, Venetian, Forum Shops, etc. They maybe able to niche market some high value brands for lower $ per square foot. I don't see them being able to create enough of these to cover the development costs though.

    2) I hate to see the green space go, even though Ballys has not policed it very well. Personally I always enjoyed going out on the strip by the water features and garden and having a cup of coffee in the morning. Nice break from the loud hetic noise of the casino.
There was some wildlife that was enjoyable to look at. Yeah I know Vegas is an urban development but some small pockets of quiet space on the strip are cool from an urban planning perspective. I think this area is what CityCenter pocket park should have been.

    3) I don't see it as a big visitor draw for Ballys to generate casino foot traffic. Rather this will be more redundant shopping. We already have Hawaiian Village and had the Carnival shops which slowed down pedestrian traffic on strip. I could think of alot more better uses for that space which would increase the foot traffic for Ballys. Personally I don't understand why they do not use that space for indoor / outdoor dining and entertainment. Look how well Mon Ami Gabi does. A Carnival court bar on that space I think would be a good draw as well.

In summary I just see this as another Caesars craptastic development. No vision and very little value prop for the Vegas visitor. Worst of all Caesars will pay for it by lower comps and poorer gambling odds. They are straining for capital with their existing debt loads and fiancing needs.

    This idea is beyond dumb.

Besides when I think about the names Coach, Hermes, Louis, etc.... I don't think Bally's.

Meh..not my cup of tea but I don't mind it. Like another poster said I think they should build up Bally's to the front or something, but this is their envision on the Linq area with the change to IP to Quad and Bills to the Gran--how ever you spell/pronounce it. Hopefully it will be nice when everything is completely done and won't be "hated" on as much

I'm not overly excited about it, but don't think its a terrible idea.

Never thought much of the stupid people movers and ugly fountains on the way into Bally's, so trying to convert them into money making space makes sense. And I don't think finding tenants will be as tough as many think.

But it does raise the question of how they'll get people into Bally's itself without the escalators and moving walkways. Thats a long way in from the strip for a not particularly noteworthy casino, and if that long way is a busy mall it would be even less appealing.

They should just rename it to "Hawaiian Village North"

    What a joke.

Here is the link to the Grand Bazaar website:

and the link to the plan:

    http://www.grandbazaarshops.com/pdf/SiteL11.jpg

If I am reading it right, the ground level people mover will go but they will keep the escalator going over the valet and into the casino. With the amount of time that the thing was not running, it probably won't matter. But they will have to do a better job making sure the escalator/elevator combo for the future. It looks like there is some restaurant space planned for outside, too, which is good because the restaurant lineup is just okay at Bally's and this invents space to beef it up assuming these won't be food court variety.

That is a lot of shops. I'm wondering where are all the employees that will work there going to park? If they have to park behind Bally's, then they'd have to arrive 15 minutes before their schedule says to be there just to navigate through the hotel.

If they are going to have a light show, well, why not have a Fremont experience light show with scheduled times like the Fountains of Bellagio? If Bally's and CET want to make a lasting impression on the Strip along with LINQ, i say go for it. People are tired of the Sirens, Volcano, even the fountains to some extent. The shopping at LINQ and Bally's will be in addition to the Ferris Wheel and the light show. If they play there cards right, i see a potential mecca of the mid-strip and for CET properties.
