Has anyone stayed at the Palms recently? On our short list for this summer's trip. Got a good room offer but not sure about conditions there...any first hand info. would be helpful. Mostly concerned about the room condition and the pools. Been there for a visit last fall and the casino seemed a little dreary. Web site claims they have a daily shuttle to the strip, Yes? We're in the 50+ age group if that makes a difference Just wondering about the rest of the place before we committ.

I stayed there in February for the very first time and truly enjoyed the casino and the room. I stayed in the Ivory Tower in a room on the 19th floor. The bed was fantastic! Room is large, the granite shower was really nice. Nice hair and lotion products. I liked it enough that I will return.

The casino has been recently renovated. I didn't find it to be dreary at all! If you play VP this is a great place to play as you can find lots of machines with good payouts and lots of denominations. Don't know any thing about the pool as it was closed when I was there.

Another thing I liked about Palms is that there is a food court located in the casino. Lots of choices...McDonalds, Nathans, Chinese food, several others. Yes, there is a shuttle that leaves every half hour. It drops you at Ballys.

    Hope that helps!

Anyone over 30 is most likely going to be uncomfortable there.

I would say 80% of the people there are under 30.

I am 40 and did not feel comfortable there.

I don't know anything about the rooms.

Hello JWBlue, Thanks for the reply to my request for info. on the Palms. We never factored in the age element in all our trips to LV., but perhaps it is something to consider. We have always stayed on the strip in those huge hotel complex, and never felt out of place. Spent our share of time in resturants, bars and at the pools too. This is a interesting subject, maybe will talk more about with other board members. Thanks again for adding it to our planning thoughts. J.W.

    My last September Trip Report

The rooms in the original tower have been remodeled. Supposedly, I cannot vouch for this as I was not in that tower last trip.

I have been staying at the Palms since 2001. I don't care about the age of the people. The restaurants there are still top notch. The vibe is not what it used to be. Now, there is a free shuttle from Palms to Caesars. Just read what LV2GMBL said, I guess the shuttle now drops you at Ballys. And they confirmed the rooms have been remodeled.

I am over 40 and I have never felt out of place.

All the young drunks hang out at the Cosmopolitan now.

If you have questions, I can help out in answering some of them.

    Thanks for your input

    Hello to all responders ,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. We’re sitting on a time sensitive offer at the Palms, book by 3/25, of $30 mid-week, $70 Fri. and Sat. (plus resort fee) for Mid-July in a Premier Room. They are the rooms that have been recently remodeled, with the graphic of the eyes on the wall. We called to verify and they were ready to books us. We spent about 3 hours there last Nov., ate at the buffet, got players cards and fooled with the slots for a while, low roller stuff. We’re a bit surprised when we got this offer in the mail.
We backed off committing because not sure “why so cheap”. I want to snoop around a bit, so I turned to the VMB. My personal outlook on vacation is that it only comes once or twice a year and I am not wasting it on low rent room with poor accommodations just to save a buck. Like most people, we want to get the most for the least, but are not willing to miss out on a Vegas experience doing the cheap. Heck, the whole concept of going there is not fiscally sound idea to begin with, perhaps that why we love it. On the other hand if you shop around you can work the “warm body” angle to your advantage, you know,” fill the place with warm bodies and let human nature take over from there”. If they are looking for warm bodies and your available, you can get a great rate at a great place.
Most reports on the Palms have been positive. We been to Vegas 6/7 times and make it a point to always stay somewhere different each trip, just to experience all the different places. Recently, we have divided our summer week into two separate stays, 3 nights at one hotel then move to another for the next 3 nights just for that reason. If we go with the Palms for a few nights, it will be the first time that we stayed off strip, something we need to try to be Vegas pros. Winter trip is a lot easier decision, don’t have the pool factor in the mix.
My finial thought is about the “age appropriate element”, this one stop me in my tracks. I do appreciate the board members bringing it up, I asked for information and I got it. I (We all) have experience this situation, particularly in a large public setting, but I always had other options to get space between me and it. But I understand what they are talking about, we had day passes to Wet Republic as part of our MGM package a couple years back. I was determined that we were going to go in “just because we could”, against the wishes of my GF who is younger (and wiser) then I. We went, stayed for about 30 minutes, had some great laughs because we were so out of our element. Point is, what we experienced was another great Vegas story to bring home, but would have been disappointed to be surrounded by ithat scene during our whole vacation. The rest of the MGM pool area was great, busy pools, quite pools, take your pick. I guess it’s reasonable to expect that mix everywhere, even at the Palms.
Thanks again for your input and your offer for more details. JW

Since the offer is time sensitive, go ahead and book. You can always cancel if you change your mind. If they require a deposit for the booking it will be refunded - just make sure you ask what their cancellation policy is before you book. At least you will have the deal secured and can take more time to decide if the Palms is really where you want to be on your trip.

Tripadvisor is a great place to read what other people have to say about their experiences at various destinations around the world. Here is the link to the Palms page, so you can check it out:

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g45963-d208820-Reviews-The_Palms_Casino_Hotel-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html

Also, the reason that the offer is "so cheap" is probably because it falls right in the middle of the hottest months in Vegas. Many people don't like that extreme heat (I love it) so a lot of resorts offer bargain deals to entice people to come and brave the heat! When I was in Vegas last July there were record-breaking temperatures of 114 degrees recorded!

I liked the Fantasy Tower and a poster said the older tower was remodeled (rooms were meh before), the summer is actually a busy time in Vegas. While you will likely like your room, this special is impacted by Palms future bookings, not the fact that it is summer.

People would think summer would be the slowest period, but the lowest room occupancy levels each year occurs between November and February.

The three slowest times in Vegas each year are:

    1. December - Between the Rodeo and Christmas.
    2. January - Between CES and Super Bowl / Chinese New Year.
    3. February - Except for the Super Bowl, Chinese New Year and Presidents Day Weekend.

Las Vegas Strip Room Occupancy by month

on our way to the Palms

    Hello friends,
Just got done making our plans to stay at the Palms in mid-July. Thanks to all the board members who provided information and input. Now that we know more about the Palms, we feel much better about our choice and not "flying" into the unknown, and because of your timly replys we were able to get in on the mail offer rates. Thanks again. JW

I really like Palms, lots of good dining choices and I like the vibe in the Casino. On my last stay there in Oct '12, I was assigned a rather odd suite called the Playpen, which came complete with stripper pole, strobe lighting, bar, living room, etc. While it was fun to show to friends, I ended up changing rooms to a regular Fantasy Tower room when I did the bed check, yuck. This room was probably well used during bachelor parties.:wink Still trying to figure out who put check-in up to that.

    Hi breanna61,
Thanks for your thoughts on the Palms. I would be interested in your opinion on the "age appropiate" aspect of the Palms, if you would care to comment. Thanks again and great picture. These are the kind of things that make such great Vegas stories, ...you had to be there...when we walked into the room...

Hi easystreet, I'll be 52 on my next birthday (and now that I've told you that I'll have to kill you lol) and I have never felt out of place at all. I prefer a lively casino and crowd.

As for the Playpen, that was the first time I've turned down a comped suite in favour of a regular room, but yes the look on my face when I entered the room would have made for a great picture.

    breanna61,
Thanks again for the encouraging info.. We'll be there this summer, not acting our age.
Please let me live, I'll tell no one.
