I am headed out to LV next month, solo. My last trip was solo and I had a fantastic time. Here's where I need some guidance-- I'll be staying my first three nights at the Plaza. I have a terrific host there... I'm set up in a "mini suite" with free play, some upfront comps for food and he usually takes the rest off at the end of my stay. I have two more nights in town that I had originally planned to spend at Paris- I have always loved Paris and it's usually been very good to me. I've got a free room and some food offer but they do charge $20/nt resort fee- even if it's comped, according to their staff.
For some reason, the Orleans came onto my radar. I have never set foot in the casino. I've read some good things about some of the food there and I am intrigued that they have a movie theatre. (So I can pretend to do something other than just gamble at least for a couple of hours.) I am just not happy at the big, new mega resorts. Been there, done that. Can anyone share their insight as to why they like or don't like the Orleans? What is your experience with comps, etc. Any info you can share is very helpful. When I go by myself, I usually tend to stick to one place- where I'm staying.

From what I have seen(on this forum)they are not going to charge a resort fee on comped rooms.

I've stayed at the Orleans lots of times, most recently last Wed. and Thur., and had zero charges on the comp. Then again, I've never been charged a resort fee anywhere on a comped room. Hope you like the place as much as we do. Remember that you can also take the free shuttle to Bally's and Gold Coast.

Orleans is a very nice property. Standard rooms are probably a little smaller than Harrah's. Bathrooms have a tub. There is a window above the tub that you can swing out for fresh air. The staff there is very friendly, limits and VP tables are more like what you would encounter downtown. There is plenty of parking and it's really easy to get in and out if you have a rental car. Here's a recent writeup my girlfriend did including some room pics: http://LasVegasOffStrip.com/orleans-hotel/

You didn't mention how you're getting from the Plaza to the Orleans, but I'd buy a 2 hour pass onboard the WAX for $3 (I pay half for the senior discount), get off at the Tropicana, take the walkway over to NYNY, and catch the 201 to the Orleans.

The Orleans is our home base. We are staying 7 nights there and 2 nights downtown at the Golden Nugget.

I think The Orleans will suit you well as it has a fairly large gaming area with a smaller casino feel. I've always had a good experience with drink service and the rooms are larger than most strip properties in the same price range.

I've found comps here pretty easy to get. Also, they have a nice mix of dining options that range from fast food to higher end sit down restaurants.

We used to stay on the strip, but for the price, the Orleans is a gem. We've stayed here each year for the last decade.

GF and I love the Orleans! It's been our home base for 7-8 years now. Smoke is a major bone of contention for us, but the place is big enough that we can usually find a VP machine we can play that is away from the "masses". They have a ton of VP and slots in this joint.

They have several craps tables, and unless it's the weekend, $5 abound. BJ is mostly double deck, and $25 a pop. There are a couple smaller limit tables, but not many. There is a shit ton of Pai Gow poker and Mini Baccarat, too.

Comps come easy enough for me at the craps table with $12 on the 6/8, and a $5 pass line wager with full odds. I've never been turned down for a cafe comp for two, after a couple hours of play.

Cafe has good "cafe" food. Prime Rib Loft is a good meat joint. The buffet is pretty standard buffet eats, but it's not bad, either! They have a food court that does the job, and a Mexican place, and Big Al's Oyster Bar. A TGIFriday's, too. If you go hungry here, it's your own fault. Canal Street is their high end place, but my GF is a picky eater, and they don't have anything she craves.

Rooms are fine, but you will hear hallway racket, and the slamming of other doors. If that's a bother....ask for a room at the far end of the hall.

From another small town ( 2,000 population ) Texas guy.....if you like the Plaza, you're gonna LOVE the Orleans!

Before I moved downtown ( for better video poker schedules ) I stayed there probably twice a year for ten years. Enjoyed every trip!

Another two thumbs up for the Orleans. We have stayed there each of our last five trips for part of each trip. The other place we enjoy staying is downtown, and for us the Orleans is just a very comfortable fit. There are plenty of gaming choices and the staff is always great. The rooms are nothing fancy, but they are clean, with flat screen tvs. We always say we should take in a movie, but never seem to get around to it, being degenerate gamblers and avid pool-loungers! Between hubby and I we are always comped 2 nights each once every six months. Considering we are pretty low rollers I feel that is more than generous, especially since we usually only visit once a year. I can't say for sure whether we were charged the resort fee on our comped rooms but even if we were it's only $6 per night.

I stay alot on the strip but I love the Orleans. I really have a good time. I like the bartenders. Sometimes I go just to see them. I also love Mc Mullians Irish pub across the street. Great food and good times. I like it so much I had my daughter wedding reception there.

Thanks for all the responses. It sounds like I'll have a great time. When I travel solo, I really like to have as much advance info as possible. When I'm with my husband, it's easier to "wing it". Unfortunately, we don't share my passion for Las Vegas.

I like the Orleans and will likely spend a few nights there for the first time in a few years during my August trip.

Things I like mentioned so far include the dining options, comps, showering with a view of the Strip, comps, good blackjack rules, no resort fees on comps (a few bucks for paid rooms) and nice sized rooms.

    Things I also like include:

    - The pool / large hot tub area.

    - Proximity to McMullan's pub where they pour a proper pint (or seven).

    - The Orleans center to catch a show or hockey game.

    - Good cocktail service and friendly Boyd staff.

-Good poker room with 4/8 NLH or Omaha w/ kill pots dealt all day.

    - NSUD offered (wish they had 9/6 JOB).

The only drawback I can think of is the fact that you will not be able to easily wonder off to a different casino beyond the shuttle (15-20 minutes to Gold Coast and Bally's) or cab.

I think you'll enjoy your stay like everyone else in this thread.

No doubt, the Orleans has always been a huge fan favorite with the cast of T2V.
Most places, even the top enders, have their detractors. Not so much with this property.

On a related note to Viva's Orleans YouTube video, the song "Dance With Me" by Orleans was the theme to our school's homecoming dance in 1976.

Loved the Orleans. Only stayed one night last summer but beers were cold and they had $5 blackjack. Cocktail waitress service was great. Room had space but was otherwise fairly typical. Enjoy!

Orleans is our 'home base' now whenever we travel to Vegas (usually once a year but sadly couldn't make it last year). Used to always stay on the Strip but got fed up with (a) crowds and (b) mainly unfriendly service so decided to give the Orleans a try and have never looked back.

The cinema always gets used by us each trip, good selection of films usually and with the 'matinee' prices a whole lot cheaper than a trip to the movies back home for us. Very much underused in our experience (read: virtually empty) but that's fine by us as we can take our pick of where to sit and can really 'lounge'.

Herself has had a few beauty treatments and says they've been great, really friendly ..... as are all the staff at the hotel/casino in our experience.

Table limits are more like downtown than the Strip and almost all of the dealers I've experienced have been friendly and not at all pushy.

The casino floor itself is huge and does get busy at times but never seems anywhere near as crowded as the Strip and not usually much of a problem to find a space at a table (me), a VP machine (me) or a slot to play (herself).

CW's generally provide excellent service and are pretty much on the ball with remembering what you drink (as long as you're not one of those that chops and changes all the time) and bartenders are up for a bit of a chat if not too busy.

As far as comps go we always get mailer offers and just talk to a host at the end of our stay for any extra comps, again they are friendly and approachable.

Plenty of food options, from fast food to sit down affairs, although in our experience the buffet has sadly gone downhill over the years so nowadays we prefer to use the Courtyard Cafe or the various restaurants.

Rooms are clean and spacious enough and the only time we needed anything 'fixed' it was done in a timely fashion.

Pool area looks nice, neither of us are particularly sun worshippers so are yet to actually experience it though.

All said wild horses wouldn't drag us back to staying on the Strip!

If I weren't on the strip, I'd stay at the Orleans. I've stayed there in the past, and always enjoyed myself there. Great selection of machines, and low limit tables.

Only thing i can tell about this hotel is that it was the worst buffet ive ever had in my entire life. And i am not really picky. I actually like fast food, cheap fried stuff, fries. Thats all i need to be okay but even the fries were just horrible when we ate there..

The casino was okay, kinda liked the vibe. But thats all i can say about the Orleans..

Any place that gets reviewed by someone, and they mention that the bathroom has a "tub" as a positive...LOL. Do they have toilets and towels too? :evillaugh
