Does Casino Music Matter?

Okay, I'm old. I'm not familiar with much music past the 80s. I get an extra kick being in the casino early in the morning when I can hear the music while I play. I very often sing along since I figure nobody can hear me. The 60s are the best and surprisingly I hear quite a bit.

Of course I have to listen to the rat pack on the plane. Nothing can get me in the mood like that. Close your eyes and image the good old days.

Not including clubbing, does music also enhance your casino time?

 

Yes!

On the flip side if I hear U2 I am out of there, U2 portends something awful is about to happen - beyond having to listen to their crappy music.

U2 is bad luck and don't step on the chalk line in baseball/softball are my only superstitions.

 

Yes it does. At Mohegan Sun, they are always playing Top 40 garbage and despite how busy the floor always is, I can always hear it at the Craps table. I can't block it out.

I'm only 28 yet I wish they would play music from the 50's and 60's too!

 

I need it to be upbeat and have continuity. I hate it when they go from upbeat pop to really dreary country to R&B. And it seems it's always dreary country and nothing with octane. One of the reasons that it is better to gamble earlier in the day is that they assume an older crowd and and do oldies. I don't mind Top 40 but they always manage to do it wrong in the casino.

 

Yes! One of the main reasons I prefer the Hard Rock!
The music is a big part of the whole ambiance and nobody does it like they do.

 

The only time it really annoys me is when they do that tight-playlist Jingle Bell Rock mix during the holidays. That gets very old very fast. They seem to have backed off on that quite a bit lately.

I enjoy it when they have a live band in the lounge and it can be heard from the casino floor. Paris, Bally's and Sams Town all do that.

I enjoy most music but my only concern is when they blast it. I am not in the casino to attend a rock concert, I am there to play and socialize.

 

I agree. The D, Golden Gate and Hard Rock are the worst offenders. It's so damn loud at The D I couldn't hear myself call out my craps bets much less have the dealer hear me.

 

I like decent 70s-80s-90s music, not too loud (Dancing Pits at several casinos). Wynn/Encore has some Brazilian / jazz mix that is relaxing - I seem to drift off gambling and drinking.

If I hate a song and I'm at a machine, I'll stop playing. If I love a song, I'll typically feel like I'm going to hit something. I realize it doesn't effect the game, but mentally I'm more upbeat.

Hopefully ten years from now, they won't be piping in today's auto-tune Top 10 "hits" (Bieber, Gaga, Kesha et al).

I agree with others it's nice to hear the (now rare) lounge band on/near the casino floor. Most casinos had lounge acts 10-20 years ago, but cost cutting must go on, and it's cheaper to filter music in.

Wouldn't mind a casino with Sinatra, Dino mixed with decent jazz, though I'm not sure corporate marketing would approve.

 

I love when I hear my favorite Spice Girls song at a casino. And I have.

Count me among those who dislikes the ridiculous volume at the D.

I liked the classic rock in the Stardust.

When I visited the LVH years back, they used to play a lot of the Beatles.

 

I love 80's music but I don't sing to it in public.
And I don't need to hear someone singing either.
Save it for the shower!

 

Music is paramount.

I loved the groovacious chill mix at Wynn/Encore.

And at Encore in the evening there was this crazy classic rock mix where it went from one song to another to another, maybe a minute of each, all flawlessly blended, no breaks in the tempo.

It was great!!!!

Anyone know anything about this? The CW thought it might be coming from Andrea's.

 

I love to hear good music (for us that's rock/pop from the 60s, 70s, 80s), but I generally can't hear the music the casino is playing over the noise of the machine I'm playing. We always play the pop-culture themed video slots and they all have their own soundtrack, which we usually have at the highest volume, so rarely can hear the casino music.

 

When I stayed at Encore a few years ago they would play this sort of samba version of pop hits. I forget the songs, but I would hear it late at night walking back from the Wynn to Encore and loving it in a cheesy way.

 

The music is one of the reasons I love PH. I like how they play music all night. But then I like the kind of music they play. I also like playing craps at Margaritaville because of the music they play.

 

For the most part I don't even notice it.

But on my last trip it seemed like twice an hour at Bally's they were playing "Skyfall".

 

I love music from the 80's . . but I don't mind most types as long as it doesn't hurt my head! At night the "D" is notorious for playing the music at head-banging levels. We said something to our host the last time, and he said "people complain all the time about it, but it doesn't do any good."

I usually can't hear my husband talk and forget about answering your phone! I don't see why they can't turn the volume down a little. Usually we end up walking down the street to the Four Queens at night.
