    My Trip Report

OK, so the main event starts Wednesday night in Vegas. But as a warm up, I am driving to Tunica as soon as I can slip away from work to get my gamble on. I know putting Tunica in the thread title will drive away a lot of clicks, but as I promsied a few weeks ago on another thread, I will try and post a regularly updated gambling-centric TR while I am there this weekend (gambling-centric because there's not a heck of a lot else to do in Tunica). I'll throw in a few observations about whatever basketball I am watching and whatever food I grab, but if you want to read about baccarat, craps, with a little vid poker and roulette thrown in for good measure, then keep checking back.

Right now, I am hoping to be at the tables in Tunica by 6. But 7 might be more realistic

F the Tunica and non VegasTR haters. I enjoy these trip reports more than the Vegas ones! Besides NateDogs Vegas TRs make everyone elses seem boring.
The funniest TR on this board was BeeJay's the journey into the bowels of the Midwest on the great rat race to rewards. :nworthy:

Now back to some Tunica hillbilly gambling action. Huddler feel free to add color commentary since this is your neck of the woods.

Wife and I are headed to Tunica on a Harrahs junket for the first time ever. Probably a 100+ trips to vegas but first time here. Junket trip reviews so far are not so good. Any suggestions.

Always up for a tunica trip report, I'd like to head down there myself this weekend, but my wife is determined to cure my sickness, or at least control it this year.

Am curious, if you head down on 61 out of Memphis, ever stopped at old skool hot wings about 3 miles (guessing) south of the State Line in Walls? I never can hit that place when it's open and am curious how good it actually is.

SandsFan: If you like to gamble and drink, you'll have a fine time in Tunica. The plane might be late, but the service is typically pretty solid. I haven't stayed at Harrahs down there in a long time, but the casino is huge and I remember the hotels being nice. You can always hope the shuttle to the Horseshoe if you get bored, it shares a parking lot with Gold Strike (MGM) and Roadhouse (CET).

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. Was too pooped last night to update, so here's the first evening summary:

Drive from nashvegas was uneventful. When I gassed up during the drive I bought a powerball ticket. Let the gambling begin! If I win the jackpot, the next VMC vegas get together is one me, lol.

Rolled in right at 7pm. It has been a few years since I came to Tunica on a weeknight. Was a little disappointed in how lightly staffed the hotel was. The VIP checkin was closed and the Plat/Noir line at the front desk wasn't exactly a fast experience. In any event, they gave me the standard suite, I threw my stuff down, and sought out some quick food before I hit the tables.

I settled on the sub-par buffet. If you read my mini-TR last month, you know my complaints about the temporary buffet Goldstrike has set up. Its even worse at dinner. But hey, it was quick and easy. I really just wanted something to stop the grumbling in my stomach.

Two craps tables going last night, so I find an open spot on the very end next to the dealer (prefer standing next to the stickman, but I was just happy to find a space) and take out a marker for $15k. That got the attention of the entire pit crew! Not really sure why. I know they see people play like that on the weekends. Maybe it just seemed large for a Thursday night.

I mostly play don't pass. I will usually shoot from the pass line so as not to piss anyone off and every now and then I will throw in a pass line bet when someone else is shooting. And for my style of play, this table was perfect! The entire time I was on the don't only one shooter hit more than a single point (and most of them sevened out without hitting anything). And when I shot from the pass line, I always hit one or more points or come bets. The biggest excitement at the table was when I placed $25 each (and $5 for the dealers) on the the three feature bets (I was trying to channel Nate's good luck!) and that inspired most of the table to throw a bet out there on the features as well. got to the point where all I was lacking as the 10 and the 5. Of course, then I sevened out. But it was an exciting ride there for a while.

Overall, I shot craps for about an hour and a half and left the table up $6300 after leaving a tip.

Then I went over the high limit room to play some baccarat. before leaving, I called my host and asked her to have the midi table set up for me in the high limit room. Its strange, mini-bac is always pretty popular at Goldstrike. But very few players play midi in the high limit room. I think they only open the table on Friday and Saturday nights unless someone asks.

Anywho, bac was a bit more furstrating than craps. The first shoe should have been perfect for me. I love the bank side and by the end of the shoe, bank had hit fifteen more times than player. But I really didn't make that much. Despite the good numbers, seems like each time I pressed, I was guessing wrong. Plus, there was a twelve hand chop in the middle of the shoe and the chop is one of two patterns that kills my betting style at bac. By the end of the first shoe, I was up about $2200, but then it got bad.

The next three shoes were all player shoes with extended series of chops! I treaded water for a bit and then dropped $4500. Treaded water a bit longer and dropped another $6k! Ended a shoes with a decent run to get $3k back, but then the next shoe I quickly dropped another $4500! Argh!!! Decided to go up to the room and blow off a little steam. Twenty minutes later, I came back down, threw a flag chip on the banker bet (flags are actually gray at Goldstrike) and it hit with a natural eight! Yes!!! That started the comeback. mostly bank shoe and by the end of the end of it, I left the table up $5135! It was midnight, so I decided to pay my markers, get my free play chips and go sleep.

Nate style total for the day:

    hours played: 4.5
    Win/loss: +11,435
    Theo: No idea

Got about seven hours sleep and now deciding what to do next. I might run over to harrah's this morning. its been more than a year since I went over there. Also need some thoughts on how to spend the $2k in promo chips. I am leaning toward saving them for saturday, just in case things go south today. But if all goes well today, I am leaning toward playing it on roulette.

I get the mailers for a couple of hundred in promo chips but I've not been to the GS is about 8 months. Are those play til you lose chips they give out? I know the ones I get from the horseshoe are play once kind.

Nice win at the craps table. Do you mainly play the don't or are you laying numbers as well?

Nice job UKFanatic! I typically ONLY go to Tunica on weekday nights when I am in Memphrica on business. I stayed in Nashville yesterday to watch my Vols beat the crap out of Mississippi State in the SEC tourney. There doesnt seem to be the complete siege of the city by the blue misters this year since the Cats are down this year. Anxiously waiting the next installment of your TR. Keep up the good work..

Its like Horseshoe. you play them once, win or lose.

I don't lay any numbers. Every now and then I will play a come or don't come bet. I'm the world's most boring craps player! But today, I have been hot! More to come shortly....

Yeah, I didn;t want to hang around for it this year, although I am hoping to find a tv with the game at 6. Three years ago when UK was #1, there were more UK fans in the city than there were seats in the arena. It was great for me. I saw UK play twice and then I scalped my tickets to the finals (which was an awesome ending, drat!!!) for enough money to cover all my expenses for my Vegas MM trip a week later!

    Time for Friday update #1:

After posting this morning, I went downstairs and straight to the craps table. The casino was dead. The only table open had one older gentlemen shooting and me. As soon as I walked up, he sevened out quickly, making me a few bucks. Since it was only he and I, I decided to shoot from the don't. made two points (whoops) but then sevened out. So I'm only down a few units. Then the older gentlement starts shooting again and cannot miss. He hits six straight points. Worse, he is taking a solid thirty seconds between every roll to set the dice and adjust his chips. I feel myself getting frustrated and about to go on tilt. So even though I am down about $8500 at the table, I decide to walk away and hit the bac table.

The bac table starts slow, no more than three bankers in a row at any point. But at least there is no much chop and I was able to jump in on the tail end of a couple short player runs. So after an hour and a half, I'm up $3100 at bac. Decide to take my winnings and head back to the scene of the crime: the craps table.

Captain slow mo must have gone to bed because he is gone, but the table is almost full. I squeeze in next to the dealer again and start betting the don't. I'm betting larger to try and make up my earlier losses and suddenly the shooters at the other end start hitting points. Uh-oh. I realize I'm down about $20k for the day at the craps table and I'm resigned to going down $30k. Then it turns!

I bet $300 on the don't with $7200 backing it up. Shooter hits a six and then an immediate seven out! Yes! the dice next come around to me and I go on a great run. Hit five points! The last one, both dice ending up sitting perfectly on top of chip stacks! The floor supervisor looks at me and says "now you're just showing off." Great run and I'm all the way back, plus a little.

Decide to catch my breath and hop in my car to go over to harrahs. Its been almost two years since I stepped foot in that casino. I hit and run the craps table for $1300 in fifteen minutes and then head upstairs to the buffet. The pit bosses don;t want me to leave until they can intorduce me to a host, but I'm starving and tell them I will catch up after I eat.

Go upstairs to the Paula Deen cardiac arrest buffet. Its actually very good. I'm not mcuh of a buffet fan, but this one has quality. The tilapia was especially good. As were the desserts.

After that, I can;t find the host and don't really care. Goldstrike always takes good care of me. So I hop in the car and head back there. Played craps for about two hours and my personal hot streak continued. Not as good as earlier, but every time I touched the dice I hit one or more points. In the end, I am definitely up so far today!

    The Friday stats:
    Time Played: 5 hours
    Win/Loss: +9900
Theo: more than the avergae bear

Going to do a little work for an hour or two and then its more craps and baccarat. Until then, going to send all positive vibes to nate in Vegas to stage a monster comeback!

    Hopefully more later....
