You just arrived at your hotel and you get a phone call that you need to return home immediately.

You only have time to place one bet. You have to place your entire bankroll on it. No chickening out.

Disregard table limits but if you play a machine it has to be a machine where you can risk your entire bankroll in a single hand. No hypothetical machines.

Will you be conservative and try to hedge your risks? Will you be a cowboy and go for the high risk big score?

    Describe what you would do.

Assuming I can't save some/all of it for the odds bet (since it could crap out and then I never made the odds bet), I'd put it all on the pass line at a craps roll.

A 1:1 win is fine, and I wouldn't throw my whole bankroll at something that probably won't win and has a high edge.

Craps would be better odds than single zero roulette. And I haven't run the numbers, but I'm guessing it would perform better than a blackjack hand where you can't split or double at all.

I'd throw down a small bet and save the money for another trip. There is always another trip in the works and worst case is I would have a bigger bankroll for next time.

No Drambler. You cheated. You have to put your entire bankroll on the table.

This is hypothetical. Just have fun with it.

For lack of a better phrase, "I don't have the balls" for that... I hate the feeling of losing more than I like the feeling of winning, so I'm an awful "high-stakes gambler". I throw a hundred or 2 into a VP machine at the bar, drink, chat and watch ballgames.

Cowboy style - go big or go home (literally)

probably bet it all on a third section on roulette - BJ the slight risk of a double-down or split turns me away from doing it all on one hand

Easy. Bet the bank at Baccarat. No risk of splitting or doubling down like BJ. And a lower house edge than craps.

This also assumes that I cannot risk it all on one big sports wager

    Fun question!

My original thought was exactly the same as jblank's to bet the third column on single-zero roulette. But Molder's post reminded me of those complete bets so yeah I think I'd do a 17 complete too.

This still covers the same amount of numbers but leaves the potential out there for a huge payout. I know there are better odds out there but for a single bet its all up to the gambling gods anyway. Besides there's a decent chance I'd lose my entire bankroll on a normal trip anyway so it wouldn't be too outrageous to lose it in this situation.

Hey its hypothetical anyway, in real life who knows if I'd have the cajones to actually do it.

This thread reminds me of the tiime, about 8 years ago, that a friend of mine and I went to Vegas. We stayed at Binions (back when they still had an operating hotel) downtown.

No, we didn't risk our entire bankrolls on one bet, but we decided that we would put the entire cost of our hotel room on one bet. That way, if we won, we would essentially be "comped" the hotel costs. But if we lost, we'd be essentially paying for the room twice.

Well, the room came to something like $162 total at the time, so we each threw in $81.

We argued a little about the game to play, but then we decided to play roulette. Then we argued on whether to play red (my choice) or black (his choice). I finally talked him into red.

So we buy in for $162 in chips and put them all on red...

    ...and spin occurs...

...and we wait, with baited breath...

    ...and wait...

    ...and the ball drops...

    ...and bounces around...

    ...and... it's...

    ...it's... it's...

    ...it's GREEN 0!!

    ARRRGGHH!!

Oh well, can't win 'em all.

    Hope you liked this story.

In terms of craps, I'm interested in the exact % of a pass line bet would win... Does anyone know that? Does it beat the (high house edge) of double 0 roulette? Maybe in hindsight we should have put $162 on the pass line and hoped for the best.

I do close to this sometimes anyway. Love when the dealer calls out table max seat 9. I guess I'm just crazy.

Yes, it does. The HA on double zero roulette is over 5%. Pass line in craps is less than 2% if you play full odds on a 3-4-5 table. Not certain, but I would guess the HA is below 2% even without the odds bet

I would bet it all on the highest payout number on the Big Six Wheel. Who cares about the odds? I'd probably set a record for the biggest bet ever on that game!

I actually don't think you can find a table game that doesn't beat the 5.26% house edge of 00 Roulette. :)

Craps wins on one roll with a 7 or 11 (22.2%); loses with a 2,3,12 (11.1%). The remaining 66.7% of the time a point is established.

A point of 6 or 8 is established 27.8% of the time and wins 45.4% of those points.

    • There's 36 possible outcomes of 2 dice rolling. A 6 comes up 5 of those times. An 8 comes up 5 more times. That's 10 out of 36 = 27.8%.
    • Once established, the bet can be resolved with any seven or the point. There are 5 variations of either point and 6 variations of seven. 5 out of those 11 total resolutions win. 5/11 = 45.4%

A point of 5 or 9 is established 22.2% of the time and wins 40% of those points.

A point of 4 or 10 is established 16.7% of the time and wins 33.3% of those points.

    So... [.222 + (.278 * .454) + (.222 * .400) + (.167 * .333)] * 100 = 49.3% a pass-line bet in craps will win.

    49.3% win means there's a 50.7% lose. 49.3% - 50.7% = -1.4% <-- The house edge of craps pass line.

I was thinking of maybe placing the 6 and 8 - I know they have a higher house edge than the passline, but not by much - and you could win multiple times.

Either that or a 1000 game keno ticket.

    "4 11 44... this time it just can't lose!"
