The situation: I booked, two months ago, a 5-night stay at The Quad. COMP showed up all five nights. Total cost: $0.00. I have an active reservation via TotalRewards.com for The Quad at this time.

The problem #1: It's The Quad. (Former Imperial Palace.) I'm not sure I really want to stay there.

Possible resolution: Logged into TotalRewards.com. Two better properties-- Ballys and The Rio-- also show up as COMP for the days I want to stay.

The problem #2: If I cancel my original reservation and rebook, I may have to pay the dreaded resort fees and I don't want to do this. I hate resort fees.

The problem #3: I thought about calling up CET and seeing if they can simply change over my existing reservation to Ballys. But I'm not sure they'll honor the website rates over the phone, and I've heard rumors that they might charge me a fee for telephone booking... and also possibly the resort fees.

So, enlightened readers and posters of VMB and CET experts, what would you do in my situation? I would like 5-free nights (with no fees at all)... and if I can get something better than The Quad, I would be happier.

    Any ideas? Suggestions? Thanks.

(Oh, sorry for "another resort fee thread," I don't intend this to be one of those.)

You can call them and usually they will see the website rates. And they can change your reservation.

And while they charge a fee for making an initial booking via telephone, they usually don't do it for modifying it (probably because you can't do it properly on the internet anyway).

However, I have no idea whether they would try to charge you the resort fee if you switched hotels, in other words, whether they would treat it like a new reservation. But its a call, so you can ask, and maybe if they say no fee get them to email you a message to that effect.

Personally I'd take Bally's even if it included the fee.

They can waive the $10 booking fee (if they desire) and often on a comped room they don't charge it - that has been my experience.

    It doesn't hurt to call.

After you have all the facts you will have to decide how much money is worth saving to stay at the Quad.

I have never been charged for changing a booking over the phone. It has never even been me me mentioned.

However, out of the 10 times I have called CET, only once did the rates I saw match what they saw. COMP has always been fine, but I usually have to pay $50 or so for a Sat. Night and that is usually the issue.

Good luck w them via telephone. I just cancel and rebook online.

    Thanks for the responses.

I just don't want to cancel and book online because it's after March 1st, and I would be subject to a resort fee. (My reservation at The Quad was made months ago, before 3/1.) So, no doing this online. Looks like I need to call.

The stay is Sunday through Thursday, so no weekend nights are involved.

Maybe I'll call tonight after I get home from work and see what happens.

Just a heads up, I have run into a situation in the past where online I get 5 comped nights, yet over the phone they only let me have 3. Don't know why, just letting you know. I have a feeling that since you are changing the property you will get stuck with paying the resort fee. Let us know how it turns out.

You can click "modify/cancel" at the bottom of the page to change an existing confirmation #. You then change The Quad to Bally's with a new confirmation #. You are just changing hotels. Just make sure Bally's is comped. There won't be any resort fees if you "modify" your booking. There are no resort fees on comped rooms........you're just changing a Quad comped room to Bally's comped room.

@waverunner: If I choose "Modify my dates and/or room type" like you suggested, I am immediately told

"In order to pick a new casino you will have to cancel your current reservation and start over"

and I do NOT want to cancel my current reservation and start over... because my current reservation was made well before 3/1 and included no resort fee. A new reservation would incur a resort fee.

    Update...

So, I called 1-800-Caesars (the main reservation line) and spoke to an agent and this is what happened....

    1) I gave my current confirmation code and explained that I have 5 comped nights at The Quad, but "I'm concerned about construction noise and dust" and "noticed that I can also get 5 comped nights at Ballys" available to me on the Total Rewards website. I explained that I would like to please move to Ballys if at all possible for the same 5 comped nights.

    2) The agent took my name, mailing address, DOB, and told me that, yes, I am eligible for 5 comped nights at Ballys and she would be happy to change my reservation for me. So far so good, but keep reading...

    3) However, I then immediately asked that if I would be liable for the new resort fees being charged. I pointed out that my reservation was made prior to March 1st. She told me that it would be the case where, yes, I would have to pay resort fees.

    4) I told her at this point that I don't want to pay resort fees and I would like to keep my existing reservation at The Quad, and that "I'll rough it there."

    5) She then asked if I could be placed on hold "for two minutes" and that she'll do some research and see if the resort fees could be waived. I was put on hold for around two minutes...

    6) But then she came back and said, unfortunately, she could not waive the resort fees, and that "the policy clearly states that reservations made beginning March 1st would be liable for the fees" and that at Ballys it would be $15/night ($60 total in my case).

    7) I repeated that I don't want to pay the fees, and that I'll stick with my existing reservation. I checked totalrewards.com and it's still active.

So, I didn't really get anywhere...

For what it's worth, I'm a low-roller (NOT Diamond and NOT Platinum, and certainly not Seven Stars) and I'm lucky to get 5 nights comped to begin with.

She told me (I found this funny) at the end that I'm welcome to try with a different hotel, but that Ballys must charge these fees for all new reservations.

Some of you might think I'm crazy for giving up the oppourtunity to upgrade from The Quad to Ballys for a lousy $60, but it's the principle of resort fees that annoys me the most.

So, I'm sticking with The Quad....

I'll probably try the $20 trick at check-in and see if I can at least get a better room. How bad can it really be?

If you're comped at Bally's you can modify you're existing confirmation # to Bally's online. Just sign in and click "modify" and change it. You will get a new confirmation # for Bally's with no resort fee because you are modifying and existing #.

Like I said, I'm currently comped at The Quad with an active reservation. The TotalRewards site CALENDAR just shows "COMP" for Ballys (and at The Rio) for the dates in which I am in Vegas.

Like I also said, I'm afraid that if I use the "Modify" option, I will be cancelling my current reservation at The Quad (like it says) and I'll be starting over... from scratch... and I will incur resort fees.

So, waverunner, I'd really, really, really like to believe you, but it seems as if doing this would be a $60 mistake and I don't want to incur these resort fees. I would not be "modifying an existing reservation" by doing this, I would be cancelling it and starting over.

You need to call back and change your reservation. Comp'd rooms are not supposed to be charged the resort fee. You just need a different operator who knows the policy.

Yes, I would do this. Skip all the quad discussion, and that it is booked before March 1st. It has nothing to do with the situation.

Ask if a COMPED room will have a resort fee.

Here's my experience with CET reservations phone agents.

If they don't want to, or aren't able to do what you want, phone back. You'll seldom get the same agent. Wait until the next shift if you're unsure or uncertain.

All of them have some leeway in what they can do, and more so by bringing a supervisor ("coach" in current lingo) into the loop. I've never been unable to get what I wanted WRT rescheduling comped rooms and such even if the first agent said it was not possible.

    Good news (update)-- I hope!

Well, based on reading the last three posts to this thread, you three convinced me to call again and try once more, with a different agent. And here's what happened...

    1) I called 1-800-CAESARS and got a live agent on the phone. He asked my name and I gave my first name.

    2) I pointed out that I had an active reservation at one Caesars property COMP for five nights and that your TotalRewards website is showing a comp for the same nights at a different Caesars property, and I am wondering if I can please switch properties... and to please let me know that comped rooms do not have resort fees.

    3) He asked for my confirmation code and I told him. He then referred to me by Mr. "_____" (my last name) and asked me to verify my mailing address and DOB and I did.

    4) He told me then that, yes, he could move me to Ballys for the same five nights, COMP, and that there were no resort fees involved, but to do this he would have to cancel my reservation at The Quad and set me up with a new reservation at Ballys (new confirmation code).

    5) I said (politely) yes, please do that as long as I am still comped the same five (5) nights and that there were no resort fees. He confirmed that this is the case.

    6) He then wanted my credit card information to make the new reservation and I supplied it to him. I verified that nothing will be charged, except at check-in for incidentals (standard practice, the "hold").

    7) I was then given a new confirmation code and was told that my old reservation (and its confirmation code) would be cancelled.

So, it looks like... SUCCESS! :nworthy:

The only thing I'm worried about is that I've checked a few times in the past few hours my account on the Total Rewards website and it's still showing the old reservation (and not the new one). Perhaps it takes a while for the website to update all the transactions. I'll keep checking. I'll breathe easier when I can print out my new reservation-- at Ballys-- with COMP, COMP, COMP, COMP, COMP, and hopefully a waiver of resort fees shown on it.

Thanks everyone for reading and your suggestions/nudgings. Hopefully this will go smoothly. I sure didn't want to stay at the old Imperial Palace/Quad. :peace:

I believe, at least it has been my experience, that if you make a reservation not through the website (by calling or through a host) your MyTR page does not automatically update with it. I have had to manually add them in the past. This is easy to do as there is a link right there that says something like, "don't see your reservation here?" You follow that link, enter your new confirmation code, etc. and then it will add it to your MyTR page.

Trekkers is right. It won't show on your account. I usually ask for an email confirmation to be sent, but you really should be fine with just your confirmation number.

    I'm glad it worked.
