Off the beaten path Vegas...

Being a fan of all things kitsch, out of the ordinary and off the beaten path, are there any spots in Vegas you enjoy hitting up that aren't in a hotel/casino? Maybe something yer into, something out of the norm, could be a bar, a shop, a restaurant, whatever.

To give you an idea of what I mean, for drinking I love me The Double Down, Frankies Tiki Room, Dino's, Atomic Liquor (so sad they had closed and stoked it's reopening but I know it's gunna have that shiny sheen on it that it won't be the same) and most of the bars on Freemont East. I am a music whore so I enjoy a little record shopping so I will frequent Zia Records or maybe Record City (on Sahara.) Cash 4 Chaos (on Maryland Parkway) always has my fix on music and some killer threads as does Buffalo Exchange (same parking lot as Cash 4 Chaos and I love me some vintage/thrift shopping).

Anyway, I think you get the idea! Let the suggestions fly!

 

I'm not proud of it, but I LOVE Davey's Locker Bar (Maryland & Desert Inn)... a friend who lives over there and took me there once. It's a blue-collar dive bar and bein' in a rough neighborhood only makes it better. I love a bar where they buzz you in after they check you out.

Also enjoy the Thunderbird Lounge at the Aruba Hotel on Las Vegas Blvd. just south of Charleston and yes I've been seen in Dino's and DD a time or two.

My last "off the beaten path" haunt is a small bar named Snick's... I have a gay friend I have drinks with every once in awhile and he like this place and so do I, cool joint. It's on 3rd or 4th St., kinda tough to find in between Main and LV Blvd by the OG.

 

Stage Door Bar. Behind the Flamingo. Very divey. Kind of rough crowd, but great bartenders, and great drink specials

 

Smartone - Yah I been to The Thunderbird Lounge at The Aruba for a few punk shows, they also used to do a swing night there and a 60's soul club which was pretty cool. Never been to Davey's Locker, might have to check it out as well as Snick's. I am not gay but have been known to get hit on by a guy or two, who knows maybe I can play barfly get some free drinks out of it....HAH!

Bookie21- Been to Stage Door Bar many a time, rediculous specials all the time! Was just there a few weeks ago and they now feature $1 Michelob beers like Casino Royal and an ABSOLUTELY MENTAL shot special $2 Jager, $3 Crown Royal and $4 Patron shots! I can go in there with $20 and myself and the GF can get COMPLETELY bombed!

Anyone else know any other great bars, food joints or shops I should check out?

Downtown Area:

Chicago Joe's is a great place for an inexpensive but very good Italian lunch. I appreciate good Italian and I can always find it here.

Gamblers General Store: Great place to stop in for books about any imaginable type of gambling, gambling items / devices, decks of cards from closed (and current) casinos, VP strategy cards and just about anything else you can think of.

LV Blvd - Between Downtown & the Strip:

Lost Vegas Antiques Located a block north of the TV Pawn Store (the one with the 45 minute line and not much inside), this store offers a bunch of casino collectibles (chips, silver strike tokens, cards & other items) as well as sports, war and other interesting items. Friendly store staff will be happy to open up a case or answer questions about their items.

Luv It Custard If you are custard fan and it is warm or hot (Mar - Oct), you'll want to stop by.

Summerlin

Babycakes: If you love a good breakfast and are in or headed to Summerlin, head to Babycakes. I love their red velvet pancakes and other breakfast items.

I think it is time to retire the title of "dive bar" for the Stage Door, in my opinion. Our last visit we spent many hours in there and not once did we see anyone who would be considered shady or even off the wall. In fact the people drinking next to us were people who worked along the strip and just everyday visitors, most of whom were staying at Ballys. I also thought it was cleaner than some of the "off strip casino" bars we visited.
