What is the best way to get points on slot play? I have heard to avoid licensed slots because they basically have to pay for the licensing on top of any prizes (i.e., I Dream of Jeannie, Munsters, Grease).

    Are reels better than slots?

    Any experiences appreciated!

This is true for MLife properties, not for CET properties. At CET properties you accumulate the points at the same rate for older or new machines. If at MLIfe properties stick with the older slot machines.

At CET, it won't affect your base points. But they have bonus reward points and it's not clear how you trigger them. It does seem that at times it's harder to get them on themed games, though. All that being said, it's worth limiting your bankroll for those types of games for no other reason than they can be harder to win on.

Are you saying licensed games are harder to win on? I'd say it's the other way around just because those licensed games are all about making sounds and mini games within the game.

    NEVER COMP CHASE....

OK, now that I have said that, play 3-Reel/5-way $1 or .25 slot
They have a tendency to give a reasonable payback at low level, but seem to rarely give big wins. So, they seem to "keep you alive" longer, allowing you to increase your points and/or per spin average for less, but again, don't expect any big wins, they happen, but are rare. Also keep in my the payout table on 5-ways is much lower as well, but again, it's enough to allow you to grind out some time and points.

I'm a sucker for those $1 Wheel Of Fortune machines. Always blowing through money so I can spin the wheel. Haha.

I did notice last year at a resort in New Mexico that just because one WOF machine gets played on a lot, does not mean you have a better chance at spinning the wheel. I guess one could say if a machine is being loaded full of money and must payback 90%, that those are the "best" to play, but one must realize they have no memory. The machine could randomly pay back out slowly or all in one spin.

Play to have fun and don't expect to win. You'll never be let down. ;)

I like the China Shores and China Shores Xtra Rewards. You can get a wack of spins I got 720 once on them and they can be alot of fun. There are other versions of this game as well. Pretty much every casino has some version of this game. New York has a few of them and Harrahs has a couple as well as Rio. Not sure about the rest of the casinos. Anyhow I truly enjoy these and have won a couple thousand dollars on them in pennies a few times playing max which is like $2.25. The more spins I can get the happier I am.

I've had really good luck on the platinum quick hits machines at many different casinos. I'll drop in a hundred and usually get $3-$5 hundred worth of play. many times i'll cash out even or up/down a little with an hour of play. best run was at aria, wife and I started with $50 freeplay and played for 4 1/2 hours on the same machine. cashed out $650 and both pretty hammered from countless beers. ha, even the waitress was tripping out how long we were there. same machine @ P Ho, Silverton, Rio, Mirage and Mandalay have all done well for us racking up the points! Good Luck!

Best way to get points is to of course play LOTS. Yea, I know you knew that, but had to say it.

Anyways, at MGM, the idiot mgmt has decided some machines will pay less points. Called Speciality, but nobody seems to know which ones for sure.

As to getting the most bang for your buck - some simple math will tell you that machines with a lower "jackpot" will pay better than those with a "large jackpot.

After all, if that $3 machine has to eventually give out $40,000 - then simple math says it takes lots of losses to get there, mathematically.

But, if the top payout is $1000 - then it will happen more often.

Actually he wasn't saying that. He was saying it was harder to get Bonus Reward Credits on them (probably because the game is more popular). But generally newer machines do pay less. The Strip's Jan. 2013's penny slot payback wasn't a record low 86.13% because they tightened up the old machines. It's much easier to set the payback percentage straight out of the box. Also the casino's average payback often goes down because these brand new machines replace ancient machines that have significantly better payback.

I don't play slots, but I stayed at the Plaza on the first night after they remodeled the casino / rooms. Three or four banks of machines were not in operation, but they each had an inventory sticker noting the name of the machine, the denomination, and the programed payback percentage. I was surprised this information was left on the machines viewable by the general public.

They were all newer machines (no older red, white, blue reels), and most were penny machines with a 87-91% payback rate. It was pretty interesting to see and I am always surprised so many people gravitate to the slots (beyond their simplicity which lets people escape).

Are you even going to notice a difference between an 86.13% payback machine and an older let's say maybe 91% slot? Seems like a minute difference but yeah sad to see the machines getting tighter.

    EXACTLY!

Why the back room types at MGM decide to give reduced comp points vs just adjusting the payback is beyond simple logic.

My Husband and I are both diamond. We earned 98% of our points playing American Idol, Hangover, Ghost Busters and Judge Judy. Those 4 games for us let us play a long time with little money. I played American Idol 5 1/2 hours on $100. I played Hangover 4 hours on $14. You will never win big, but you will have a blast and earn points.

4 hrs on $14? Wow! Hangover is one of my favorites but I've never had that kind of a run on it. What were you betting?
