I booked a pretty good rate at Paris a few weeks ago through Kayak for 3/21-3/23 (Thu-Sat). At the time, it was $228 with all taxes and fees, however I do have the option to cancel.

Through my Total Rewards I saw today I can book a two queen room at Harrah's for $121, after taxes and the new $18 resort fee :)wink2:) comes out to $153 per night.

I've never stayed at Harrah's, and haven't stayed at Paris for about 6 years. Anyone have any thoughts on what is the better value?

This is a guy's trip, so it's me and a buddy in one room. We will be hanging out with some other dudes who are at Mirage so that is why Harrah's is potentially appealing to me.

We will mostly be making sports bets, drinking, and playing craps. We may have one nice dinner, not big into clubs or anything like that. Pool is basically a non-factor, just generally need to know what you guys think if Paris is worth $75 more a night. I'm sure Paris is a step up, but how big of a step?

    Any advice welcome.

Honestly sounds like you just basically want the room to sleep in at night.

If it were me, the location putting you closer to the others you are going with outweighs the slight upgrade at Paris. The sports book at each are not all that great. Mirage has a better book than both of those.

$75 I think is about right for the price difference as to what you would expect for the rooms. Both of the basic rooms are somewhat dated, I think Harrah's is more so. Bathrooms at Paris are a large upgrade with a separate shower. I don't think you are getting a much better deal. The Harrah's deal sounds pretty decent as well.

Paris is worth $75/more per night in normal circumstances. But if those rates are per night and not for the whole trip, I'm not as sure. In an inflation period like March Madness, it's probably to go with the most affordable option that I can be satisfied with and Harrah's would be in that column for me. Just be aware that the rooms at Harrah's are small and you guys won't have much room to stretch out. Bally's would be my way to split the difference.

Good to know on the room size, that's a bit of a concern...not a huge deal but certainly with someone else who isn't my wife it's a bit more of a consideration.

Generally, I've been watching these rates pretty closely and it's been interesting to watch...when I booked Harrah's was actually like $30/night MORE than Paris...so was Flamingo.

Now, Paris has shot up into the $300/night range and Harrahs has gone down considerably...like $80 a night less than about two weeks ago...I'm just talking Kayak not Total Rewards where it's reduced (for me) much more than that, when before I wasn't even getting a discount off the Kayak rate. Weird.

Mirage just finished upgrading their Sportsbook, so you guys should have a great time!

    Enjoy!

    Thanks, that's good to know.

The rate just went down another $20 bucks in the time I posted and now so that pretty much makes it a no-brainer, I'm going with Harrah's.

They do HAVE a sportsbook, though, correct? Sorry for the ignorance but other than one meal at The Range with the Blonde Dueling Piano twins afterward that's been my only experience there. I can't recall ever gambling in there.

Yes, they do have a sports book. I only say Mirage is better because the layout of the Harrah's book just isn't that great. It is long and narrow and I'm not sure if there is even a place where more than 2 people could sit together.

I know you have already choosen Harrahs, but I wanted to mention that the basic room in Paris isn't exactly huge either. Any basic room if you have 2 Queen beds in it will have somewhat limited space. Generally nightstand, bed, nightstand, and some sort of chair is fairly standard for basic rooms.

I'm actually quite shocked the rates are going lower for that weekend. :)
